American servers crashed too.    They've been getting them back online pretty fast today though.  Don't you have Halloween in your respective countries too though?

Not really no. The last few years shops have started pushing Hallowe'en stuff, mainly as a way to make money between summer and Christmas - but I know no one whose kids go trick or treating, or who decorates the house or gets dressed up or any of that stuff.

When I was at University, several people had Halloween themed parties but it was more "Lets have a party, oh its Hallowe'en, lets make it a Hallowe'en one!" than anything else. As a child All Saints Day was important - the day after Hallowe'en - for religious reasons but no one took much notice of Hallowe'en really. Came too close to Bonfire Night, which WAS a big deal, I suppose.

When I graduated and was teaching in San Diego I was totally nonplussed but the whole Hallowe'en thing tbh.

edit: spelling > me

Our retailers start their whole thing with Labor Day, back to school time, move on to pushing Halloween heavily, then right after Halloween is done all that stuff gets marked down and Thanksgiving decorations get stocked all over (turkeys, little cartoon Pilgrim window stickers, plastic turkeys to put on your lawn to annoy the neighbors, etc.)  Then right after Thanksgiving is over they mark down all that stuff, and stock the shelves with Santa, reindeer, and tree decorations.

Most of the major holidays of the year I can understand being mostly celebrated in America (why would other countries celebrate the 4th of July for instance, or Thanksgiving for example), but Halloween is one of those holidays I thought was just pretty much all over the place regardless of country.

What major holidays do you guys have?

Around here, the retailers start pushing stuff well before the current holiday. As soon as Labor Day was over (BTW its called International Workers Day and celebrated in May in the rest of the world) we saw Christmas stuff out for sale. We also get summer stuff in February, so I guess that makes some kind of perverse sense.
