Yep I spoke too soon.  I still get this error/crash.

*EDIT*

Strange.  When I switch to fullscreen mode and take a screenshot, it works.  Going back to windowed after that, it continues to work.  But if I just log into the game and stay in windowed mode, that's when it crashes.

Same thing. Full screen the screenshots work. Windowed = crash

Awesome, this clue is superhelpful! I will look into it! Thanks!

Just tested this alt-tabbing and taking screen shots in Full and in Windowed mode neither crashed

But if you log in a new character you cannot take a screeen shot while in full screen mode -- you will crash with the same error. You have logoff, run EQ2Settings go back to windowed mode - log on the character, go into options and changed to full screen mode and then take your Screen shots.

Screen shots will still crash in full screen mode when you log on a new character - You get the same error as you do in Windowed mode.

I don't know if this is relevant but it might be. I play in windowed mode, but I noticed in the dropdown box for full screen it said 1280x960 for the resolution. Without changing anything, in windowed mode I would crash when trying to take a screenshot. I logged back in, went to full screen mode, changed the resolution to 1280x1024 (which is my desktop resolution) Took a screenshot just fine, went to windowed mode, took a screenshot just fine. Logged out, came back in windowed mode, made sure it still said 1280x1024 in the dropbox (even though I wasn't in fullscreen.) I pushed take screenshot and it worked fine This could be unrelated but so far I haven't crashed since I matched the fullscreen resolution with my native desktop resolution.

Maybe thats why I have never received these crashes

Everytime I have installed Everquest II I Manually up date the eq2_recent file (If you want something done right you have got to do it your self) since it doesn't correctly detect or up date its self

Example

cl_screenwidth_windowed 1920

cl_screenheight_windowed 1080

default was like 1024x768 and it never changes from that and thats no good for me as that resolution is completely unsupported on my monitor

The MMORPG Perfect World has a similar issue (I deleted it before finishing fully trouble shooting it though next time they will have to make it user friendly)

also this is line for full screen encase its not set correctly either

Example

cl_screenwidth 1920

cl_screenheight 1080

I wonder if its driver related what driver version you using? I couldn't reproduce it on the Resolution you listed 1280x960 in windowed mode and full screen

I have been runnin in 1920x1080 as that is wht my monitor support and that what I have to EQ2 display - and it has worked before as I have taken screen shots at that resolution.  I can't run my desktop at 1024x768 as a compromise I am running the desktop and eq2 at 1680x1050 and I crash for screen shots.

Does the game have to run at the same resolution as the desktop? Accorinding to eq2 settings it is valid resolution as is 1920 x 1680 == it has in the dropdown from which you select.

No you do not have to use your desktop resolution even in Windowed mode.  I play at 1920x1080 in and of itself is supported.

I'm not very computer savy, but I have never had trouble taking screen shots before and have played since the beginning.  But June 28 was the last time I could take a screen shot without crashing.  I get that error every time I try to take one now, in full screen or in windowed mode.  Sure wish they could fix it, I miss my screen shots.

tried another screen shot on 8/2. This is what it said

Fatal Error

EQ II has detected an unrecoverable error and must shut down.

E:liveeq2frameworkcoredevicesDirect X9RenderDevice.cpp(17746)SMILEYirectX error (D3DERR_invalid CALL) 00c7c44e

as I say, I'm not very computer savy and did not know how to capture of this, so I wrote it down.  But, I still can not take a screen shot.

Can you walk me through your method?  Literally speaking.  Do you log in Windowed or Full screen?  What resolution?  Shader 1 or 3?  Do you take any additional steps prior to taking that screenshot?  Covering all the basics again just to be sure as we have tested a fix together, GermInUSA and I.

I logged in just to take a screen shot when I say your reply.  Didn't do anything but log in.  I use full screen, shader 1.  Logged in, took the screen shot and crashed.  I actually did not even move the character from the spot she logged in on.  She was standing in Qeynos harbor.

Edit for forgetting the resolution, I play at 1920 x 1080

Oops 1 more question, which patch method again?

Okay, now you're really going to know how dumb I am about computers.  I have a shortcut on my computer, I get the brownish square log in screen.  It had an info button on it and this is what it said.  Copyright 2009-2010

Version application 443

Shell:3.0.0. 223 Plug-in 153

Does this help or do I need something else?

I just wanted to post that with today's patch (Aug. 9th) it does look like the issue is solved, as per patch notes.  I took four screenshots in a row on my main character, then hopped to an alt and no crashing.

Anyway, thanks for the time spent on this.  I'll be honest when I say this did take a while to get patched in, but I do understand that having the fix done and then getting said fix moved into the patch schedule are two different things as well.

Could we get more confirmation on this?  Anyone who had the issue prior to the recent hotfix please test your screenshots again and let me know at your convenience.

Just tried to take a screenshot this morning, and still crashed, on a live server. (I've been trying to show a tearing issue with SC purchased gis on human soga female models, but it's difficult without being able to take a screencap.) I patch with the station launcher. Error message matches what others have reported. OS is Windows 7 64 bit.

Try out latest LaunchPad and let me know if you continue to crash.  You can try the streaming version if you want to quickly test it and be back out.  However, I do recommend the full download version and installing it over your existing EQII game folder.

Uhm, guess I won't be taking screenshots though... I don't like the streaming client and have no intention of redownloading 12+ GB. SMILEY

Thanks for your help though.

That's your choice but there is no re-downloading at all in either option I suggested.  Streaming LaunchPad lets you log in right away while it downloads.  So log in and test it and log out and stop it.

The full download version also won't require redownloading since you use a compatible patcher now, station launcher.  You can simply install the full download version over your existing EQII game folder and no redownloading will be necessary.

It's as simple as asking me as opposed to just turning down my suggestions.

The full download version also won't require redownloading since you use a compatible patcher now, station launcher.  You can simply install the full download version over your existing EQII game folder and no redownloading will be necessary.

It's as simple as asking me as opposed to just turning down my suggestions.

When I tried option B on my other computer, it opted to re-download the game, regardless of my already having it downloaded and installed with the station launcher, as it did not seem to like where it had previously been installed.  Maybe that's been fixed since.  I'm also a bit confused as to why the screenshot functionality would be fixed by one patcher, but not the other, despite my getting every other code fix to date with that other patcher.  Regardless, thanks for the suggestion.

You can always move your station launcher folder if there is some type of system issue or permissions problem that also needs to be addressed.  ProgramData and Program Files folders have permission issues with Vista/7 requiring you to run as admin each time and may often not work at all even elevated (depending on several factors regarding when you upgraded or freshly installed Windows Vista/7).

As long as you direct the installer to your current EQII folder, not your Station Launcher folder, it will not redownload the files in the PAKS folder (these are the main game files) as it scans to see if it is already there or not.  The only downloading that will occur are any updates not already received.

I found that simply renaming my screenshot folder to something else and making a new empty one fixed this.

I am still crashing on printscreen and I've tried all the suggestions. Anyone have any new ideas about this issue? Thanks.
