Pet + Buffs?

Hey, I'm relativley new to the illy but I'm wondering if we have to choose between having a pet up or throwing buffs on people. Whenever I bring up a pet I run out of concentration and can't buff anyone. What adds to my confusion is sometimes when i die I'm able to throw all my buffs up as well as my pet. Not sure if this is just a bug or what but i'd really appreciate if someone could explain the concentration mechanic.

Unfortunately that is the way it is until you get your epic done. Once you get that, the pet won't require concentration slots. That said, what I used to do was when I was soloing, I'd have pet up, but when in raid/group situation then the buffs took precedence.

The part about being able to cast buffs and have pet up, I can only guess that's a glitch/bug of some sort (if you don't have epic done I mean SMILEY .
