![]() Greetings, As the title suggests I am new to using cable over dsl. Never had a problem on dsl. Tried to turn on voice chat and about 30 seconds later kicked to "Trying Login Server 1" et cetera screens. Tried this a number of times and it's the voice chat that keeps knocking me offline. Pulls down the internet as well until I quit EQ2 or turn off the voice chat option. I've got a Netgear CGD24G cable router gateway and I have looked over the settings for it but I am at a loss. I have two computers (sometimes three) that connect to the router and play EQ2. I tried port triggering to open 12000 - 17000 UDP, 5060-5062 UDP, 3478-3479 UDP because on port forwarding I would have to specify the local IP for those ports to go to, and I need them to go to two if not three different IP's which I am lead to believe is not possible. Well, port triggering did not work for me. Thirty seconds and bam, back to login server. I looked for a setting to turn off SIP ALG but cannot find one (this was a suggestion on another thread). I tried an older suggestion of disabling the voice tutorial in the eq2.ini file. No luck. I tried to see if the firewall is configured for voice by going to www.bandwidth.com/tools/voipTest but it fails on the first three tests as it detects a firewall. I've turned off my Windows firewall, same issue. So I suspect it's getting kicked back at this router gateway. Any thoughts on how to solve this short of reinstalling vent and hosting my own vent server? Not sure why this is such a problem for cable or maybe it's just this model router or maybe it's because it's a gateway or oh heck, I don't know. I do know that I'm out of ideas. Anyone in the community or a TSR can assist me? Thanks in advance! |

![]() I'll need you to open a support ticket and PM me the incident number. The issue here is with the router you are using. It has been reported to have issues with all of our software. We are actively working on a solution for the issues but I do not have a timeframe to provide. I'll track the issue and update you with a solution when it is provided to me.

![]() yeah charter gives out this very crappy netgear garbage, i tried dmz, port fowarding all the ports even expanded the range on some ...still Voice chat resets the modem....game crash. well i disabled the voicechat and i can play enable voice chat or prompt that a new channel is available ...crash. Netgears solution is pointless, don;t even bother with them they are useless waste of skin. Best solutions is to get a cheap motorola surfboard i purchased one set it up and problem went away....well the surboard went out during a power outage and i pluged the crappy 5 year old netgear back up and im back to no voicechat till i can get a new modem. |

![]() Most service providers, not sure about yours, will replace it for free if you request a different model. Mine did.

My Service Provider sux they force me to use the name brand and model they chose currently its just 2 modem/router combos (smc wireless router/modem combo with god awful reviews and issues and a cisco 3825 wireless router/modem combo) and its rental only no purchase allowed so stuck with mega fees and if I purchase my own modem they say they will either refuse to register it or only register it for dial up if that unless I rent there modem mandatory The modems I have most interest in is Motorola as they have the best reviews with 0 issues except with my isp refusing to register the new models Motorola SB 6120 or higher http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/U...em-SB6120-US-EN Until I get a new isp stuck with a discontinued docsis 2

![]() The very same thing is happening to me that happened to the OP. I have a Netgear router and a Cisco modem. Voice chat drops and so does internet, although I usually stay in game (but I'd better not zone) but sometimes drop to character select. When this happens it's a waiting game. Can't get out of character select, can't use browser, voice chat is down until it decides to reactivate, usually about 10 minutes later. The voice chat window specifically drops me and puts up the extra icon that indicates that "You are logged in as another player. Do you want to change this". I hit that icon and it doesn't disappear but now the tooltip says "You are not logged into voice chat". Clicking this freezes it up. Going into Options and disabling voice chat makes the window disappear and when I try to reactivate it from Options, nothing happens. Then a few minutes later it comes back on its own. Voice chat is highly important to me as my guild uses it for raiding as well as Ventrilo (there is a voice channel for healers, for instance). A lot of the guild could not use voice last night in an X2 raid, myself included. I even tried disconnecting the Netgear router and plugging my computer directly to the Cisco modem. Problem still occurred when I had voice chat active. I shut off voice and it worked fine after that until I changed characters and lo and behold I had new voice chat channels available, and down it went a few minutes later. Same issues with and without the router. I even had my ISP test their equipment and the connection, and they had no issues at all, so I'm stuck.

![]() What is the model of your Netgear and Cisco modem? The issue was reported on a specific model primarily, netgear cgd24g modem/router combo but havent seen any cisco specific models yet.

Reproducable every time you turn on VC? I don't have either one of those readily available to test with at the moment.

![]() It is irregular. Today, only dropped once. Yesterday, dropped 4 times including twice during raid (had to be in a channel). Today wasn't in a channel. Not as likely to notice a problem if I'm just solo as I'm not using the chat, unless I happen to try to access the Internet and find myself unable to do so. One very peculiar trait of this vivox-related dropping of the Internet browser (using IE8) is that it will sometimes give the normal "can't find this address" error message and sometimes it will give an "invalid address type" message. When it does that, I find in the address bar instead of for instance http://forums.station.sony.com, it reads http:///. The Cisco unit is provided by Time Warner Cable (Roadrunner), but the Netgear box is my own. To reiterate: I ONLY get this peculiar outage from the Vivox voice chat interface. Never if I'm not in game. Seldom in game unless I either have voice chat on and using a channel (often), have voice chat enabled but not using a channel (sometimes) or have voice chat off but changed characters and it informed me I have new voice chat channels available (seen it twice that I know of). The other thing is this: When I was unable to even bring up voice chat from options, as SOON as I opened Station Launcher with another account (hadn't even logged onto a character or character select yet), suddenly the voice chat interface appeared on my original account's character screen. Of course, normally logging in a second account drops me from voice chat on the original account and I must reset it and rejoin, always been like that for me. But the voice issue happens even with only one account running on this computer.

![]() I think your issue is much different and not the same type of router resetting issue the CDG24G has. Please contact our support staff, we would like to run through some tests with you and find out why this is occurring. Include your DXDIAG, MSINFO, and our network test results which I've included instructions for below. Please be sure to include a thorough description of the issue like in your last post. I am out of the office today but I'll let our representatives know of your situation. I need you to bring up a run dialog box. You can do this by pressing and holding the Windows key on your keyboard and tapping the R key. In the box that pops up I need you to type cmd and press Enter (If you're using Windows Vista/7 press ctrl-shift-enter). This is going to bring up an old “DOS box” don’t worry it’s just text. You’ll need to type in the following commands one at a time. Remember to put spaces between all the words, unless there’s a special character like / or . in front of the word. Then you’ll want to keep that symbol and the word together. If you’re having a lot of trouble you can also just copy and paste the text out of this email and into the DOS box. These commands can take a while to run so please wait for the blinking cursor to appear since you won’t see any output to your screen. For the pathping commands you might even want to go grab some coffee, or a sandwich between lines. Network Test: So, all set? Here’s the commands: ipconfig /all > c:eq2info.txt tracert unrest.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt tracert najena.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt tracert befallen.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt pathping unrest.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt pathping najena.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt pathping befallen.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt If you’re curious what you’re saving for us, try the commands again but without the >’s or the stuff after them. Go ahead, I’ll wait… Pretty confusing huh? Don’t worry I speak gibberish fluently and can translate it for you. Ok now that you’re done with that, you’ll have a file on your hard drive called “eq2info.txt”. If you go into your hard drive you’ll find it right in the main folder. To get there, just do that Windows key and R trick from earlier, and type C: and press enter. The file will be in there. Just send that file into me, I’ll translate it and figure out what happened to your connection, then I’ll let you know. No worries it’ll be pretty painless, but we might need you to contact another company if it’s not something on your computer that’s doing this.

![]() Give me a few days on this: The problem is starting to manifest itself outside the game as I'm guessing something somewhere is throttling data. In fact, the tracerts I ran ALL timed out on the second hop: I called the ISP and got a technician out here today and he cannot find anything wrong with the visible cable so it MAY be something in the underground trunk line. He was going to talk to the maintenance folks and ask them about it as he'd never seen this issue with my connection anywhere before. In other words, they are stumped. Update: a top tech called back, said the timeout is normal for a "bridge" modem and that he's sure it's my router that's the issue, that it is misreading IP addresses (although I'm sure I had outages while NOT using the router) so I'm testing with hardwire and tomorrow hubby will reconfigure the router to a static IP address. After that I will get back to you and let you know if the router was indeed messing up the VOIP and Internet addresses.

![]() OK from what I gleaned from the back-and-forth with my ISP, they send data a certain way, and it shifts frequencies or something similar. My router when I'm wireless takes time to reacquire the signal for some reason. So we hooked it up to wired again and no further trouble. The router itself has no internal issues, has good software. So it may be possible for some posters to have that for an issue. My ISP is Roadrunner (Time Warner Cable), in case that also helps.

![]() It is possible but the OP has a very specific issue with the CDG24G modem/router combination.
