The news article actually doesn't mention the February date being a qualification, so is that actually part of it, or is it only qualify for Dec/Jan and buy the expansion by 12/31/2011?

Is this the only way we'll be able to get the vampire race?

And so, I need my account up for three months, and then pay for the expansion before the end of the month to get the mount and new race? Thats $75 dollars, when there really isn't much to do until the expansion comes out. Not really happy about that.

Very nice!

I am curious though about the new "race". Is this a full blown player race that can be chosen at character creation, and if so, are there any details available on them yet such as racial traits?

One can only hope it includes instant death in daylight.

Seriously, what about those of us who bought the Fan Faire platinum pass?  Do we qualify as pre-orders and thus the rewards???

If you had read the previous responses, it's been clarified that the expansion doesn't need to be purchased until December 31, 2011. Currently it's 2010, so the end date of that is still one year away. You just need an active account this month and next month to get the December and January rewards.

There's no pre-order qualification, just one for having Velious before the end of next year.

That said, my friend and I have different takes on it.  I'm thinking since we were FF Platinum Passholders, we'll have Velious active on our accts and so meet that qualification.

My friend notes that the requirements say "purchased" Destiny of Velious - and being Platinum Passes, we're technically not purchasing it, so we don't qualify.

A little dev clarification for the potentially paranoid please?

I guess these people will be carefully watching the Norathian time when out and about questing SMILEY

But can any race become a vampire, if so we will get Vampire Frogloks?  And how will Vampire Frogloks work with teeth?  Since we'd lack the fangs for draining blood, perhaps we sort of chew/gum our prey?

Looking forward to this though.

Instant death might be a tad much, but I'd like to see the vampires with some kind of DOT in most overland zones during the day unless they have some kind of gear or spell up specifically to protect them from that.  And a higher power cost for spells/cas during the day.

Of course, they should also have some kind of buff at night to balance it.

Sooo glad don't have to pre-order DoV as it usually takes until about May before it becomes available over here (unless pay an extra $80 freight from SOE) and that's even if the distributors don't decide at the last minute to pull supplies (has been about 2 years since EQ1 was availble SMILEY)

During NoTD when you were doing the quest in LP you got a buff during the night, so the vampire race should get a similar one during the day (maybe a small DOT that hits you for a few HP every click, but not enough that it can't be countered by food/drink but your natural health regen is stopped during daylight hours when outdoors, but it lessens as you get older or maybe goes away altogether when you reach lvl 90)

Ok, Here is my question. Do you have to be on a recurring account or can peeps who do game cards qualify or people who only like to pay one month at a time.  In other words, if you pay for a month and cancel the recurrence, then renew the next month and cancel the recurring, do you get the items?  I know that your system has trouble with kind of thing, so please check.

It does not have to be recurring. You just have to have an active subscription on the dates stated in the article in order to qualify.

In theory and to the best of my understanding, if someone subscribes and cancels as you described, they should still be eligible for the rewards. You do have to meet the qualification that you received both the Dec and Jan rewards in order to get the Feb rewards though, as well as be active on the Feb date and purchase the expansion before the end of 2011.

are those of us who use game cards considered subscribers in this case?

You do realize that Norrathian vampires walk around in LP during the day? Apparently daylight has no real effect on vampires in EQ2. Though to be fair vampires in Norrath also have absolutely none of the usual immunities to damage vampires usually get.

Do vampires get benifits from regular food and drink?

Per the fine print: If qualified to receive the third and final reward, EverQuest II Destiny of Velious expansion pack must be activated on or before December 31, 2011.

So you just have to buy it before the end of next year, and when you do, if you met the qualifiers for Dec 2010 and Jan 2011, you'll get the Feb rewards whenever you purchase and activate the expansion. Cool, huh?

And ooh, I so cannot wait to share the rest of the news.

This seems to mean we have to order a download via SOE instead of getting a boxed version with CD's from Amazon. I prefer boxed versions with CDs.

I would like to have the nice Dev response just to ease any fears on the Fan Faire question, but according to how the fine print reads we should be fine. Terms and Conditions: Items are non-transferable and have no cash value. Items will be available for redemption via the in-game “/claim” window. EverQuest II Live subscribers and EverQuest II Extended Gold and Platinum members with accounts in good standing are eligible for rewards. If qualified to receive the third and final reward, EverQuest II Destiny of Velious expansion pack must be activated on or before December 31, 2011. As you can see the key word is activated, not purchased. Yet in the non fine print at the top of the page it mentions Purchase. So a little extra clarification would be nice

All has left me some what unsure, of what qualifies and what does not.In the main post it states you need plat or gold on EQ2 to qualify, then by a posted developer response it has been stated that you only need an active subscription to qualify.I do not want to make assumptions and take it that by just saying active that means plat and gold.Could the level of subscription required to qualify please be cleared up, as there is myself as a pay monthly customer and there is the time card customers out there that would love to know how they stand too.A little clarification on this will go along way.

for eq2 extended you need plat or gold to qualify

for eq2 live you have to be an active subscriber which is the same as plat/gold on eq2 extended really.  In other words you need to be paying the monthly fees at the premium level.

If you attended FF, you're account is automagically flagged for DoV.  You don't have to worry about a thing.  I think the thing most people aren't noticing is that you have until Dec 2011 to register it.  Thats NEXT YEAR.  So, if you qualify for the first two rewards, you have a WHOLE YEAR to register the expansion.  So you FF people don't have to do a single thing except qualify for the first two rewards.

No, I'm not a red name or anything like that.  But if you read about how they've handled the giving of expansions to FF people before, you know they have the accounts flagged by release day.

The gold/plat thing only applies to EQ2X.  As far as I'm aware, time cards ONLY apply to EQ2 live stuff (I could be wrong, so please don't quote me).  You need either an active EQ2 live account on the mentioned days to qualify, or if you are EQ2X, you need gold or platinum level on the days to qualify.

For the EQ2 live account, it doesn't matter HOW it's paid for, just so long as it's active.  You could be living off of RaF free months for the two time periods, and you'd still qualify.  So long as the account is active and not suspended or anything like that.

Anmerys stated in this thread that your account just has to be active on those dates.  Game cards work -

"It does not have to be recurring. You just have to have an active subscription on the dates stated in the article in order to qualify.
