Don't want to mess with the deities?

Choose agnostic when you make your character and problem solved. At least that's what I did when I made my character back in 2006. My deity is 'None'.

Not sure if that's still an option but it works for me.

That's EQ1's deity system, unless it's been changed.  EQ2 had no deities when it was released, and all deities are chosen by the player after the creation by going to the NPC in charge of each deity.

I can think of many reasons i'd make a exile. I've done it before and stayed with it a long time. My reason was on the test server because i wanted to stay a SK but be allowed to walk around in qeynos. So i gained faction with kelethin and qeynos, which at that time halas wasn't around yet, so i could easily walk the streets. I never considered my SK truly evil.

Other reasons could be perhaps in RP you like to play the outcast. Nobody wants you and you like eating worms.

Oh and lets not forget some people prefer to play the neutral guy. Independent of everything.

Now at this moment i don't have any exile toons. When i am a exile though, I usually just drag the call to haven spell off of my hotbar when i betray because lets face the facts here. Everything that is in the haven is available around norrath somewhere. Collectors? Teren's Grasp! Mount merchant? Same place. Same for crafting. Bank/Broker? Those are all over norrath. You can find them in somborn, terens, mara, LFay, and countless other places. Wanna start a guild? You can do that in kelethin no matter if your a citizen or not i think. Not sure i never tried but it seems like a global thing. I say kelethin because those guards wont kill you. Now if you are in a guild that has a guild hall, you most likely don't even need a city in the first place. Not to mention, if you bring the faction of any given city up to +10,000, you've already unlocked the ability to access most of their merchants and amenities before you even become a citizen. But doing this has already pretty much stated your true alignment. So you would only be and exile by name.
