![]() I've had this issue sporadically through my year of playing EQ2. But lately it's non-stop. About half the time I try to go into a new zone, I get booted to the character selection screen. It's getting to the point of aggravation and rage. Once I get kicked to the character selection screen, I can't log back in for a few minutes. It tells me I "already have a character in the world". To make things worse, after a few kicks to the character selection screen, my voice chat has started cracking out and won't connect me into VC. This became an issue within the past 2 weeks. Before that, I had no VC issues unless everyone was having the same issue and the booting was sporadic and usually with a long period between being booted. I've re-booted, reset the modem, routers, etc. I am not losing connection with my internet or losing browser connection. The problem lies solely with EQ2. I don't get kicked when I die or if i use my Traverse Shadows or get a CoTH. The only load screen I am having issues with is the zoning. Any suggestions? I have several friends that play the game on various servers and between them and my guild the best i had was to reset the router which is a been-there-done-that!!! |

![]() I'd suggest trying a few things, you may have already tried them but it never hurts (for me) to ask. Have you tried a direct connection between your computer and your modem? You mentioned that you have a router, if you are still having issues without the router it removes it as a variable. Have you checked for updated BIOS versions for your modem? how old is your modem? I ask this since your issue sounds a lot like a issue I once had. My modem was very old and getting a new one cleared the issue right up. Not really sure what else would cause crashing while zoning unless it was a corrupt file. The only other thing I know, is when you zone it re-authenticates your account and if it can't it will kick yea. Is this a true "crash" or are you being sent to the desktop without a error in your log files? To check your system log files go to "Control Panel > Admin Tools > Event Viewer > Applications". On a healthy system you shouldn't see hardly any "red" errors, or "yellow" warrnings, if any at all. If EQ2 is "crashing" there should be a entry - Right Click for properties and a reasion why. |

![]() I need to borrow a cord from work or my friend that will stretch from the modem to the PC. But as i'm not losing connection to AIM, browser, etc, i'm hesitant to blame it on my network connection. My modem is from the cable company and I've had it about 3 years now I guess. My wireless card has no updates for the driver, etc. And while i don't get booted on any other loading screen, it will boot me regardless of however i try to zone.. from a dock bell-to-dock bell, from the guild hall, call to GH, etc. It kicks me out to the character selection screen. I can always tell when it's going to because it pauses. Normally, i click-click-click to zone and poof, i'm off. But when i'm going to get kicked to the character selection screen, it hesitates, then goes to the loading screen like it's really going to do something.. and wham, i'm at the character selection. When i log back in after about 20 "You currently have a character in the world" msg, I am in the zone i was trying to enter. |

![]() From the sounds of it, yea the modem would be the last resort since its not completely dropping your connection. Have you tried popping (deleting) your "Everquest 2paksappcache.vpk" file? Are you running Shaders 3.0? I do know what you mean when your explaining the issue, it's the exact same "hang and crash" I was getting with my faulty modem - but again your modem sounds like its fine. Zoning dosent sound like much but I'd have to imagine that there is a lot going on, loading/reloading settings, characters, environment, UI stuff, ebstablishing chat, resynchronization, inventory and account authentication. Are you running any custom UI stuff? |

![]() The only extra that i run is the EQ2maps and ACT. I don't use Profit or any other add-ins. You know, now that I've posted this here I have been waiting for it to kick me while I load so i can see exactly what stage it drops me and of course now it won't kick me. But it was kicking me for literally 50-75% of my zoning for about two weeks before I came here looking for help. It's teasing me, i think. I'm going to try deleting that cache file too and we'll see if i can continue on my no-booting spree I've enjoyed the past two days!! |

![]() Infuriating is indeed a good word to describe this. I think I get to "Loading zone entities" when it crashes... but i know before it gets there that I'm going to be kicked. Like i said, whenever I click something to zone the game will pause before switching me over to the loading screen.. then I hold my breath and sure enough WHAM i'm at the character selection screen. I got booted 3 times last night while i was raid leader and let me tell you.. i'm getting really tired of this whole mess. |

![]() I try random things and i'll think i've fixed the issue... only for it to come back with a vengence a week later. I get booted about 50% of the times i try to zone. I don't know what else to do... Since the rest of my internet is not crashing, I am not going to replace the modem/router hardware. Obviously they are not losing connection and its always when i zone. ARGH MATEY! |
