He stated we did not want it and that is why a new service has been launched.  This is no different than another server with a different rule set.  We now have RP servers, standard servers, Live gamer servers, F2P servers.  Who knows, maybe they will open a progressive server next.

This is very different from a server with a specific rule set for one specific reason:  new players are being funnelled into it.

Sure, people say that all the time but I have to wonder how much profit is "enough" - is there even enough?

75k subs would be a little over a million a month and when combined with LoN and SC revenue I just don't see how EQ2 is doing so bad that they would be that desperate for additional revenue, tbh.

No amount is ever "enough".   Sadly, I think we should all go back to pen and paper RPG's playing over our buddy's house and there will be no micro transactions to be spoken of!

I'm rolling up an Inquisitor right now, yes he can use a greatsword

People may have said they didn't want this stuff, but I have a feeling that the Marketplace says otherwise.  The success of games like Free Realms have shown that this is extremely lucrative.

Make no mistake, this guise is nothing more than to change this community from a stance of:

"We don't want f2p in our game, if you do we quit"

to

"Put the same f2p on our servers, or we quit."

It's a ruse, thinly concealed.

Will live gamer be available on the extended servers as part of the " Robust Marketplace " ?  Really would like to have this bit of information so I can plan ahead.

By the way, in my opinion this is an amazing step forward for SOE and the eq2 franchise.  Now just advertise in traditional media.

You all have made it clear that you don't want to be forced to leave your home planet of Earth.   We have no plans to relocate you.... However, we will begin sucking all the oxygen out of the planet using Mega-Maid, so if you'd like to pay $35, we will be happy to transport you to Mar$.

Just have 1 thing to say..

3 of 4 accounts canceled, make SOE feel it where it hurts, we can b!tch and complain but they only really care about 1 thing.

It didn't just slip out.  They were ready to make the anouncement.  Witness the faq's, the matrix, the blog posts by SmokeJumper, etc.

That's what makes me sure that they had been working on this for a LONG time.  It wasn't just hashed up over beer and pretzels at the company picnic last month.  Just reinforces a lot of the double talk complaints, IMO.

SOE, why would you screw over your player base like this? You're ensuring that eventually everyone will have to move to f2p whether they want it or not. And none of the longer players of this game are dumb enough to fall for it.

For health reasons I can not play eq2 on my desktop, and my laptop is a macbook. I was excited to see this afte rthe initial disappointment of another lie by a redname from SOE. but.... the web installer is an exe file. for the love of all that is holy, why couldn't it be a true web application, cross platform?  To quote my boyfriend (a successful web developer I might add): 'SOE has always been sub-par on the technology curve.'

I should have learned by now, I shouldn't be disappointed, but I am.  Very disappointed.  SMILEY

The slip was the broker on test denying access because of lack of gold membership. Happened when test was up briefly earlier.

This is something that most are not even noticing.

We need to have perks that would make it worth moving from a F2P server to the Live servers.  This is the only way you will be able to get this model to work.

Thats because there arent any. (Apart from if you wait long enough you can have the server to yourself I guess)

The trial is still there, its on the recruit a friend program.

Once Extended launches, the 14-day trial will no longer be available to the general public. New players can try the Extended free adventure service instead. However, 14-day trial passes for the EQII subscription service will still be distributed by active players on the live subscription service via the Recruit-a-Friend program. This way, friends can play together on the same server and still enjoy free time. The RAF program will be updated at a later point in time to include Extended invitations and rewards.

While technically true....it is BS. How many people that want to try the game will know an active player?

I cancelled my 2nd account today.  I barely even play my main lately so I figured it's a waste of money.

But with these changes I can tell there wont be much point having my main account subbed.

Thank god for League of Legends taking up time until something else worth playing comes out.

I would expect it is more that people need to calm down enough for them to be able to post them without it getting buried in a pile.  I know they are watching the posts very carefully and are trying to communicate with people.  The hard part is peeps keep twisting what they are saying.  Hopefully we can get some more info soon.

I'm sorry but the trial is not still there.  The refer a friend program is different from the trial.

I don't have any friends that EQ2 would appeal to so refer a friend is useless in my case.  That is why the trial is important, it encourages people who have no prior contact with the game to give it a try.  Furthermore it is vitally important on live servers to avoid them suffering a slow death.

Please don't say again that it's okay to remove the trial because the refer a friend is still staying.

This will DESTROY all of the current servers.

If you aren't able to realize that, I dont know how you were able to remain through the recent layoff round that went through since you are obviously clueless.

The complete audacity of this shows how you don't really give a darn about your current player base.

Congrats on destroying the game I used to love completely.

There is absolutely no benefit to being on EQLive, other than not having to put up with the 8 year olds milling around in Antonica spamming drivel in the shout channel.

Since noone actually goes to Antonica now, that is no benefit either.
