If you were to play a toon, which when it died was deleted along with all its worldly goods, what class / race would you select?

Actually I would love a special rule set server that only allows 1 character per account with perma death. IN game rez should still be allowed of course as that is a standard character ability, but no "revive" button.

Or better revive button with warnings until level 5, the no revive, but allow corpse run until 10. Then after 10 if you die and can not rez, then corpse would become lootable by anyone.

These are not the sado-masachism forums you were looking for, but I understand the confusion.

Seems the OP has played Diablo 2 on Hell mode.

I wouldn't mind seeing this. It would be interesting to try out, but maybe have it be with 5x the normal exp gain (if pvp server) so that a character loss isn't as hard to recover from.

On a pvp server I would play a warden.

Lol, This seems like a cool concept, until you get to level 90, then die... I would be SO angry...

I mean If u die in an instance, ur [Removed for Content], all u would end up with is a server with harly any ppl on it, cuz once u die, ur gone.  No one would do any raiding ( which is basically all the end game content has to offer)

No one would ever risk doing anything hard, you may say u would now, but i doubt it.

There would need to be some very different mechanics to accomodate, maybe make it so theres no limit on how many players for an encounter (like 12 ppl can get credit for a heroic) or something, Iuno...

Its cool and hard core, but only if u plan on playing the game to level 30.

You know you can play this right now, right? You don't need special rules servers to decide that you're only allowed one death...

Yes, you just have to have the dicipline to hit "delete" upon death.

Interesting concept, not sure it would be fun for me though. I do like to see how many levels I can get before my fisrt death on many of the characters I play - I usually make it to 30 or so if I'm soloing - if I group with others, much much less!

Most of us don't have that discipline to do this so if the game did it for you it could be a lot of fun.

Everytime someone posts something like this I respons the same way.

People who want a system like this do not want it for themselves, they want it for others.  Item loot for PVP, perma death, it's all the same thing.

All you have to do is delete your character when you die....but we all know that is not going to happen.

Yeah but it would not be a game I'd play - nor would I want to invest any time or money in a character that would delete upon death.

A perma-death server is way too care bear!  The death penalty for real hardcore players is having SoE thugs show up at your house,  break down your door, smash your computer, and cut up your credit card when your character dies.  Afterward, they raid your refrigerator and watch pay-per-view movies on your dime!

It would give too much advantage to those who had two accounts with a rezzer on the second account. Also groups of all rezzers would be a bit out of control. You would have to get rid of rezzing for everyone or give everyone the ablity to rez as though buying rez stones as in Aion.

So I went with a Barbarian SK.   I am following my normal twink rules, so he can recieve spells etc from my other toon, but when he dies I will delete the toon and what ever is the bank.   So far I level 8.

As much as a fun thing to try for yourself, this just wouldnt work as a server rule. It would be impossible to get peopel to run anythign other than the easiest of instances etc.. and raiding would be a complete non-starter. But, if I was going to try it out, i guess I would go for SK (FotM i know SMILEY ) FD would be the top skill to have

Yeah, I play scouts and jump off of so much stuff that I would have new toons out the wazoo if a death meant a perma-death. I think any class other than my bard would survive up to lvl 90, provided I did all easy soloing and stayed well away from groups.

Yeah, I would hate it if death meant deleting the toon. No one would group anymore, and I probably wouldn't be playing.

I wish you all the best, it can be done and a Shadowknight is without a doubt the best class to play with.I played with a Shadowknight myself and reached level 52 without a single death, well over a 1000 quest's finished and plenty of risks were taken. I grew tired of the game and hit the delete button. A Shadowknight's survivability come's from Mortal Embrace and Shadowy Elusion, but there is one ultimate tool that will save you from any death, but I will keep that a secret.....Well it's not really a secret, I will keep you waiting for a while then I will post the answer.

I wouldn't play a game with permanent death.  Too much work and time is involved with leveling up and gearing up a toon.  No thanks...

I played D2X in Hardcore mode exactly once, and that was enough pain. The great thing about Everquest is persistence and always having your character when you want to play it.

However, if I had to choose, I would probably choose monk. FD every 10 seconds, 100% riposte temp buff, self ward against magic, self-cure cast-able while stunned or mezzed, high avoidance for traveling through hostile territory. Some of these goodies come in t6, though.

Pick your battles wisely. Set the AA slider to 95% to ensure best power to level ratio. Find the best gear you can. Good luck.

Neither my mystic or my warden died soloing  before 70-75.

- My mystic died deep in nurga mines-  (ganged + heroic) and ffrom  some partiicular fly swarmer

-- My warden died from the red drake (around 85, she now solo it easily), and from queen bees around 75.

I did a bit of heroic solo, till 50, i never died doing so , weirdly i can now solo some ROK instance trash(seb, chelsith)  (have not dare to try chelsith  named but named in seb are easy as long as they do not fear).

Your idea is stupid, i only die in group (and rarely) so nobody would ever group, most of my death are from raiding.

Reaching 90 with no death is easy, simply never group or group only with people you trust and go for green/blue heroic content with evac and two healers.

It could work, but they'd have to be a few changes to the rest of the ruleset:

1. Fast levelling.  You'd need to be able to reach max level in 1-2 weeks.  The blow of dying would be too much otherwise.

2. Hard to die early on, but game gets a lot harder as it goes on.  Bring unconsciousness into play a lot more in the early levels.  Almost like a three strikes rule, first two times unconscious, then death.

Possibly:

3. Make raids a one time event and arrange them all in a pyramid with one final raid - so the server can be "won".  Then the server recycles.
