Could anyone explain to me the big differences between the healing classes? I wanted to make one soon but wasn't sure what to go with. I'll primairly be grouped with my friend and possibly my GF once I get in the 50's. Mainly interested in Defiler/fury/Inquisitor. Unless I missed one? Any info/insight would be appreciated, thanks~ |

There are 3 types of healers in the game, and two classes of each type. Generally speaking, one is offensive, the other defensive in their roles, but played well any one of them are perfectly fine healers and can heal any group content in the game competently. Templar, Inquisitor = Clerics. Their healing style tends towards reactives, that is, when the target takes damage, it immediately heals in reaction. Templars are the more defensive of the two. Defiler, Mystic = Shamen. Their healing style is based on wards, which absorb damage. Defilers are the "stronger" healer, but they sacrifice DPS and some utility. For a trio, honestly the Mystic is probably the better choice. Warden, Fury = Druids. They are regenerative (heal over time) healers; they only heal after damage has been done. This makes it harder for them to deal with large spike damage, but for heroic content that usually isn't a huge issue. Wardens get more HoTs, and a single elemental damage ward, but Furies' have potentially higher DPS. Like I say, any well played healer can heal, it's more a case of what suits you personally. I have a max level defiler and fury (that was a max-level warden until SF), and honestly I feel safer with the defiler. But in your case, a mystic is probably the best way to go, IMO. |

What the above poster said is spot on. Personally, in your position I would role a Warden. Yes there are better healers in the game and if your aiming at raid content you will probably get popped in a mage group, but they have decent dps, great heals (aoe too!) and SOW. |

Also...if you want to be in the same city...druids are neutral and can go anywhere, clerics are: templars=good, inquisitors=evil, shamans are: mystics=good, defilers=bad.

Or sat so a fury, cleric or shaman can take your place in a mage group if you are put in one. Normally a warden in an ideal raid setup to maximize dps and survivability both is put in as a third healer in a MT group and then either sat when the MT no longer requires that much healing, used as a fill in for a no show healer of another class for one of the other groups, or as a supplemental to another healer when a raid wants a two healers in the DPS groups for survivability. A swashie or assasin moved or an extra one put in the raid in the wardens spot increases dps by allowing the dps classes already in the raid to do more dps and not worry about managing aggro as much and of course the additon of another high dps class to the raid. In eq2 all healers are pretty much hybrids. Clerics are healers/buffers with a lot of temp buffs. Shaman are healers/debuffers Druids are healers/dps Each class has a more offensive and defensive sub classes compared to each other only but generaly speaking, should be better at their secondary side then the other classes. Clerics should have better temp better buffs then shaman and druids. Both shaman should have the best debuffs, and druids do the most dps. Unfortuenately that has not been strictly true but you never know when they will fix the classes. lol |

This is quite true, don't forget mystics (and defilers) also have a nice array of temps: bolster, RoA (both shaman), stampede. And overall I've seen that wardens are the lowest DPS of the melee healer classes..but they make up for it with truly amazing AE heals. Here is a breakdown, class by class: Druid: Warden: most powerful raw heals, specialize in AE healing; moderate melee DPS Fury: moderate heals; best DPS (primarily from spells) Cleric: Templar: probably most powerful overall heals, good debuffs; low DPS (primarily from spells); traditionally MT healer Inquisitor: moderate heals; second best DPS (primarily from melee) Shaman: Defiler: very powerful heals, great debuffs; low DPS (primarily from spells); traditionally MT healer Mystic: very powerful heals, great debuffs; high DPS (primarily from melee) and here is it again by category Heals: Hard to say who is best, because that depends so much on the situation; shaman have the most efficient heals, but therefore have the lowest raw healing power; clerics have the next most efficient and therefore have a slight boost in raw healing power; druids have the least efficient but make up for it with a dramatic increase in raw healing power Wardens are indisputably the best AE healers, and tend to be the best group healers. Defilers/Templars are usually considered the best ST healers, and are best for healing the MT in a raid (with a mystic being a close rival to a defiler). Debuffs: Shaman > Cleric > Druid DPS: Fury > Inquis > Mystic > Warden > Templar ~= Defiler |
