![]() http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...5158970#5158970 So, it looks like some of the new creatures we'll be facing are: a BADASS looking armored Beholder! new versions of the Naiad, including at least one that is also part Medusa old fashioned Kerra and Erudites Goatfolk!! (I was definately surprised by the Ibixians, but pleasantly so) some sort of root monster Panda people! (I guess the ones from EQ1 evolved quite a bit) Displacer beasts! some sort of crystal/rock monsters a plant based Void Beast Chimeras, both living and undead In addition some wyverns, wurms, and a 3 bladed floating contraption that looked pretty much normal. Also, was that Ratonga a bit different than character models? It looked different to me. |

![]() *whine* I wanna see a game use Homer's description of the chimera. Hesiod's is so... overused, it's not really imposing anymore. Homer's Chimera "in the fore part a lion, in the hinder a serpent, and in the middle a goat." Not three-headed. Could you imagine coming on a beast that had the head of a lion, a goat's head sprouting from the middle of its back, and a snake for a tail? However, the nayad that's a cross between Echidna and Medusa looked, admittedly, fairly decent. I hope she's not a raid mob. I want to see her in person. *dreamy eyes* |

Your description made me instantly think of the Chimera from Final Fantasy 6... but then I googled the picture and see it's pretty much a split between both definitions. |

![]() Hehe noo - Not my description, it's Homer's! I prefer Homer's. That... I don't know what to say about that, other than... That's straying even further from Homer, Hesiod, and even D'n'D. A lion-dragon-goat-hawk-snake-... is that a boar? What? *boggle* [EDIT: This would be Homer's Chimera. Her siblings are the creatures with multiple heads from the same shoulders... Hydra, Cerberus, Orthrus, etc.] |

![]() Touche... Technically, it wasn't a direct quote because I got a word wrong. d: "She was of divine stock, not of men, in the fore part a lion, in the hinder a serpent, and in the midst a goat..." (Iliad 6.180) [EDIT: Well, a direct quote of a translation... Technically theoretically, I'd have to give the Greek version, which would be "... πρόσθε λέων, ὄπιθεν δὲ δράκων, μέσση δὲ χίμαιρα..." or anglicanized, something like "prosthe leon, opithen de drakon, messh de chimaira" but... yeah...] *cough* Back onto the topic, I am curious about these goat- and panda-folk. Do they have like, EQ1 lore history that explains how they fit in? Or are they just for... cuteness? |

![]() That Medusa/Nayad actually has eels for hair ;op Oh, and yes, that is the Roekilik model wearing one of the 2 scrap-metal armor sets. The Ibixians are interesting, as are the Crystalfolk, however what really interests me is the fact that there is a race called the "Talonites" which seem to be stoney-skinned Erudites and the newest test patch includes a very familiar race... the Coldain! |

The Ibixians are a brand new creation exclusive to EQ2. They've never existed before. The Pandarians have apparently evolved or otherwise developed their own culture since EQlive. Back then, they were just huge bears who walked upright, but didn't have any intellegence or culture. They were nothing more than another animal in Stonebrundt Mountains. http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/s....shtml?id=16493 I'm glad they did develop them into a race and culture of their own this time around. I always felt they should have one. |

![]() I beleive the Roekillik were teh first ratonga...or the second ratonga, I'm not sure, but I thinkI recall three ratonga races being created. Two of them were trapped, one escaped. The roekillik will be interesting, overall. |

No, I don't like fighting ratonga. They don't even look like rats either, well actually they do look about like that giant rat they found on some island. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/7149799.stm I guess it kind of makes sense they are to ratonga as gorillas are to humans. |

I'm sure that whatever lore they've got for why Odus was hidden or whatever could be a justifiable reason as to why these Erudites look old school. Can't wait to find out more, myself. |

Yes, but Vhalen said it was a UNIVERSAL level that affected ALL Erudites, and that Odus was no exception. It doesn't matter where they were. My guess is that only shifting the entire continent to an alternate universe such as back into EQlive would have prevented it. Vhalen wrote: The changes to the Erudites were universal. These changes were not isolated to Odus. The catalyst of the transformation was located on Odus, but the effect extended out to all erudites. The erudites have been researching one particular area of the arcane for a long time. That magic practice would play a large role in the celebration that became the catalyst. This field of the arcane has always interested them and you can find displays of that obsession in the pursuits of an erudite caste of old and a caste of new. What really happened to them? Did they evolve or mutate? We may never know until we step foot upon the shores of Odus, something that has been absent for quite sometime. |

I'm wondering how they could do such a good job on ratonga and such a... hideous job on kerra. They don't look cat like at all whatsoever. They look more like gorilla-tiger-humans that run like hunchbacked babies. |
