Hi,

Went to Nek Castle the other day and I couldn't kill a named lvl 36^^^.

I was wondering what I'm doing wrong.

I think I use the wrong strategy : I send in my tank pet (expert), let him take the aggro, snare the mob, dot and nuke him, heal the pet.

I don't use root or stun cos when the mob gets damage there is a change the spell is dispelled.

I have 44 aa-points : 14 points in the stamina line, the rest : 5 points Enhance : Undead Knight (increased pet damage absorption), have tainted heal (20 points in the manipulation line), 3 points Enhanced: Soulrot

If you want to check it out on Eq2 Players character is Jotie on the runnyeye-server.

I just want some feedback, do I use the wrong fighting tactic, have I spend my aa-points wrong?

Tx in advance

root and stun still trigger tainted heal and heal your pet even if they are quickly dispelled so  no reason not to use them.  have you got adept 3 pet and adept 3 defensive stance?  if not that would make a big difference too.  some times you can kill high level mobs by rooting and nuking with lifetap only. root, wait till root refreshes, then lifetap/root continually as refresh - slow and boring but sometimes works. if root resisted use stun till refreshes.  keep pet out of it unless root breaks and  mob after you then feign death quick while pet gets aggro if you have FD yet (cant remember what level you get FD).  dont use DoT spells including imps etc or root will break.

42 might be a little low. You can also try to let the dot's run out, root the mob, call back pet to heal it up and send it back in in case pet's health is dropping to fast.

You will need the tainted heals AA to solo any ^^^ within a decent amount of levels of you.

If you don't have that, you need it.

I am a 37 necro and yesterday, when I was 36, I tried to kill a named 34^^^ spider in Zek. I have all mastercrafted cloth armor and all Expert spells except my tank and pet heal-over-time which are Master ranked.

I died but I think I could have succeeded if I changed my strategy. The mob had about 15% health left when it died. I let my tank run up and beat on the mob and I tried to DPS it to death. My pet died and then the thing came and clobbered me in three hits.

I think I'd win if I tried this: Root the mob. Expert root would be wise to increase chance of success. Then use sorcerer pet to DPS while I lifetap and root. Let the pet hold aggro so you have a small meat shield if/when the mob is unrooted.

* Edit: oh one last note, I have my AA line in Rotting filled so I could get Lifeburn. I think a little lifeburn at the end would have been a nice touch in my new strategy as well.

Lifeburn is all fine and well but you can last in a fight for thirty minutes if you have tainted heals. Seriously.

With lifeburn and no tainted heals you can last maybe two minutes if you call your pet back and try to heal it.

If your not using your roots and other subjugation spells everytime you can to get the heal from them (with Tainted Heals) then I can almost guarantee that is where your strategy went wrong in that fight. Yes, damage will break the root but everytime you cast it you get 18%(iirc) of your pets hp healed!! And as suggested above, if your pet is taking damage to fast, pull him back when you root the mob and heal him to full and then send him back in while the mob is still rooted. It will also get a bit easier when you are able to get Consumption to use during the fights as well.  It takes a bit of practice but you will get it with time. Good luck!

I didn't realised the power of the tainted heal !

Was only using transfer life as my major "pet-healing-tactic"

Tx for the replies !
