I must say that I would have to agree with Yerma.  I tried two different Linksys routers in an attempt to fix the issue.  Still nothing.  When I connect directly to the DSL modem, I can use VC no problem.  Otherwise, I get I'm not in a channel like the rest.  I opened every port, disabled every firewall, etc.  I believe the MTU packet size is the issue, but have no way of fixing it.

It's been awhile now and I've heard nothing from admin on how to fix this issue.  What was so wrong with voice chat before the update?

Can an admin member please make a comment?

Thanks

Dont feal bad, I have a idea that SoE has no idea what is wrong, but, according to the Emails that my fellow guildies have been getting from SoE,...(please hold the laughter), the Devs have fixed the issue and voice should be working. If your program still doesnt have voice, Disable all firewalls, disable all addons, Add Exceptions to This port or That. Kinda sounds like they are reading from a Manual of "i dont know what the hell im talking about".

Alot of people in our guild have no voice chat.

The people from SoE who they have talked to on the phonee blames the issue on the following

EqMap Update

Your router is the problem

Your firewall settings are the problem

I personally use 2 computers, that run off the same router. My desktop has no problem with Voice.

My laptop, however, has no voice. So the problem is NOT on our end SoE, quit blaming us.

Even had a few guildies who were told my SoE to reintall EQ, that would fix it. It didnt.

I have a very curious issue with the voice chat.  I haven't come across any posts (yet) that seem to share my issues, so I'll share them in this thread (since it seems to have the most "traffic") and hope that someone can relate or knows a solution.

Because I sure as hell don't.

Voice chat "works" in every way except the right way.  EQ2 recognizes my mic, it tests fine and I can hear myself over the playback.  Others in the channel hear me fine.  I can join voice channels without a problem, and I can even see when someone's talking.  But I can NOT hear the actual voices!  When they come in clear, they come in clearly for the first 5 seconds of joining the channel, then it's complete silence.  When voices DO come through when they're supposed to, all I hear is a burst of very, very brief and minute static.  At best, it's very laggy and horrid-sounding static.  I have gotten voice chat to work TWICE since the update, and that was through very angry and persistant joining/leaving of a voice channel until, FINALLY, everything works like it should.  I have no idea why it takes 200 join attempts for the audio to work right, but it does.

I have tried the following:

-deleting that EQ2voice .exe or whatever it's called.

-switched from the Audigy ZS 2 to the onboard Realtek, and back.

-changing the in-game input/output devices in all manner of combinations.

-cleared everything EQ2/Station/Sony related through my Firewall, AND set myself on the DMZ just to see if it would work.

-updated my router's firmware (DIR-615).

SUMMARY:  All manner of "fixes" are not working for a voice chat that's broken.  I can join voice channels, leave them, see when people are talking, but I can NOT hear them.  When I can, it's very, very laggy and full of static, OR it works for the first 5 seconds of joining the channel before going into very quiet bursts of static when people try to talk.  People CAN HEAR ME, but I can NOT hear them.

Ok for those of you that have a problem going through the router, but not directly through your modem, I may have a solution for you.

You need to set your MTU to 1492 on the router.  Not 1500, not Auto, and not disabled.  I found some really great information at the site below.  As soon as I changed mine to 1492, voice started working.  Hope this works for you.

Read the large post from rmrucker on this forum.  He explains what is going wrong with fragmented packets and why you should try 1492.

Please resolve this issue quickly, it is crippling my raiding abilities. It worked fine before the update but now I'm getting the same issues every one has. 0 users in voice chat and when pressing the talk key it says 'You are not in channel', added the exception to my firewall and everything (even with the firewall disabled it will not work)

My laptop is running Vista Ultimate x64, and it seems like a lot of people with a 64-bits system are having problems, so maybe the solution has something to do with that?

One more unhappy customer here.  Laptop with winxp can connect to voice but is not good enough to run EQ.  Desktop which is vista64ultima cannot run voice but program does well.  Its not my modem if one works and the other doesnt.  Disabled firewalls and virus.  Updated newtwork adapters.  Nothing works.  I have even sent ping reports on incident reports and no fix.  Not sure how long i will continue to play when i cant group/raid effeciently w/o voice.  Good going there SOE.

I don't think this is a router issue. My boyfriend and I are on the same router; he can connect, but I can't. I just keep getting dropped. Fyi in case that helps...

Apart from the obvious annoyances that this problem is causing, replies like the following from CS are just fuel to the fire and demonstrate the dire need for better communication between the various parties involved.

My name is  and I will be taken this issue. First off I have already fixed 100's of this issue with other customers and it’s always been on the customer side. So if you can bear with me we should be able to fix this. I need to have some question answer first:

snip..

He finishes by saying..

Also, I will be looking into why Greg "Rothgar" Spence say what he said and when.

This was in respose to me quoting Rothgar's post in this very thread.

I was tempted to tell the guy that since it is 'always the customer's fault,' he should come to the forums and solve all our woes SMILEY  I opted for a slightly different path.

Try to eliminate the hardware for possible faults: try changing the output device to speakers and see if the problem persists.  If you have a spare headset try changing that too.  Doubt it will help but you never know.

Rothgar being called out by tier 1 CS in broken english: priceless.

And you're absolutely right about the obvious need for better communication. The fact that general SOE CS doesn't seem to be aware that GU52 broke voice chat for many people is frankly bizzare. I predicted this though, and saved myself the added frustration by not bothering to file a petition.

Let's see if today's hotfix... fixes anything.

Dear Sony

My active subscription is being wasted away at the moment as i refuse to play if i cannot communicate with my fellow guild members.

Even my active /petition i have going now has ceased to exist as i'm being ignored by their gm's on this issue now.

The last i heard from a gm by email was to check the firewall status and open up the ports and stating that i need to update firmware on my modem which is already upto date. When i replied back stating i've done all of the instructions in the email they never responded back. So does this mean you dont care anymore? I would really love to talk about the lovely customer service you guys provide but then people wouldn't trust me now would they?

I haven't been functional on voice since GU 52 until last night (6/22/09).  Once I allowed "fragmented packets" through my hardware firewall, voice starting working again.

I didn't change anything on the computer nor did I reboot the firewall after the change.

None that I'm aware of.  The "allow" solution isn't a good one because it can open your network to attack.  I hope they fix this soon.

Here's the note from today's patch:

"There is a new EQ2VoiceService.exe from Vivox that should resolve some crash issues that players were experiencing"

As of last night, I still couldn't join a channel, but I was not crashing.  I'm not sure this helps me, unless voice was crashing without an error message?   Anyway, gonna have to wait 'til I get home tonight.

An update from a company rep sure would be nice.

Ok, as I have been very paitent, and have not made a stink on the forums. After todays update, I am still getting the same errors I have been getting since the original update! I deleted vivox and the other exe from my folder and the patcher downloaded it again to no avail. I am STILL getting the error box that VC has to close and to send error report. This is just rediculous!!! Long and short.........STILL NOT WORKING!!!! What gives?!?!

Not fixed, still completely inoperable. If they fixed a "crash" error, they have not addressed the "complete lack of access" error.

As of early this morning I can join my guild voice chat but not raid or group. This must mean its not anything in my system but how the server handles each chat room. If it were my system I couldnt get into any voice chat at all. I agree, go back to the old voice chat until this gets hammered out

Guys, guys, guys, Go into your Router settings and uncheck "block fragmented data bits", this has fixed the problem for everyone in our guild with the voice problem.

Everyone, and i mean everyone, in our guild that was having the trouble was via a router. If they plugged modem directly into PC the problem went away. We had to go into router settings and uncheck the "block fragmented data bit" and it worked perfectly from there on. If your not behind a router, then, the problem is settings on your firewall, and not on Sony's end. Or, your just too lazy to go Do the self fix that your waiting for SoE to release a patch. If that is the case, keep crying. Less QQ, more Pewpew

is amazing that vc worked almost perfectly rt up untill the big patch went in and then all these problems started to happen, which means the only thing that has changed is the game and not my computer.....so how is it my computers problem.

also....i completly disabled my firewall lastnight and it still didnt work so there goes your its a firewall problem down the drain....any other suggestions.

Great suggestion. Unless you don't have a router which has support for enabling or disabling that option. Not all hardware has the same options. The D-Link DI-624 for example does not have this feature.
