Ok, I understand we aren't supposed to be able to get the harvester's cloak fast but only finding 1 den at a time in rivervale is getting a bit much don't ya think?

Yea basically you need to clear cut EVERYTHING in order to get what you want to spawn, atleast till you hit SS level of farming then it just depends what your looking for depends how much clear cutting you have to do. note, even with SS for dens you need to clear cut everything. it's just metals are in a different area.

Bah, screw ore / stones / trees / roots. More shrubs!!! More dens!!! SMILEY

I really would like to be able to turn off rare harvests. In the moment I don't like to harvest a rare root / rare pelt or the imbue material from shrubs / dens. I hade 3 rare pelts from the dens when I finaly managed to get my 10th pig meat in Nek (and had almost a stack of normal pelts plus 30+ of the other meat). Yes, in the moment I curse the balancing on harvesting Domino has done in the past SMILEY

Rivervale is "olde schoole".  All the harvesting nodes except fish are on the same respawn.  To get more of what you want, clear cut.

Oh? I did not know this.  I was still thinking that harvesting all organics re-spawned more of all organics and harvesting all of non-organics re-spawned the non-organics.

Learn somethin "old" every day!

I agree you need to clear the all the harvestables.  I finished my cloak yesterday, there were 3 other characters in the zone looking for dens too but just riding around in circles untill they found one.  I cleared my little areas and had my dens pop in no time.

I'm laughing!

Tier One, I get to Timorous Deep. I start harvesting. Soon I am gnashing my teeth because I keep getting rares!!! I was shouting at my screen, "COMMONS! I NEED COMMONS! STOOOOOOPPPPP!"

Tier Two. Who knew it was so difficult to get meat? All I am harvesting is hides. I really was talking to the screen during this piece.

Tier Three. Not so bad, especially because I remembered to talk to the hungry halfling and thus get extra mileage out of my harvesting.

Tier Four. Why don't these dens have any meat in them already??!!

Now I'm working on Rivervale. I have never seen so many logs and roots in my life!

It's funny. I would NOT have estimated that it would take as long as it does to get the harvested items for this quest.

But lawsy, I have book pages and shinies coming out my ears now!

this is my problem.

worst part, you end up DELETING the commons and some of the low teir rares because theres so many on theh broker from people doing this quest that you cant possibly sell them.  my guild  depot also doesnt want low level things beyond a certain point.

if you want meat, you get pelts. if you want pelts, you get meat.  dens suck.  t8 got it right.  no meat in dens.  i repeat, dens suck.

I finally finished the cloak (yay!) and was overwhelmed with my geeky love for data analysis. Here's the summary of what I harvested for this quest, including clear-cutting:

If you are really interested in this number crunching geekiness, the full table is at http://www.vikinganswerlady.com/souls/cloak.htm

  • # Collects is the number of times I clicked a node.
  • # Items is the number of common harvests I received.
  • # Rares is the number of rare items harvested.
  • Surplus Market Value is based on whatever the going rate on the broker was today on Lucan D'Lere multiplied by the number of items I had left over after the quest turn in.

Definitely though, the T5 really was the worst, it's not just my imagination!

But for the cloak, over a plat in direct quest rewards for each turn in, and about 18p in rares to sell along the way, not bad for about 10 hours of harvesting, spread over several days!

Now I need to write a function to allow 123456.78 to be displayed as 12p 34g 56s 78c -- that still allows math on the underlying number while displaying it as Norrathian currency.

In the whole quest series, Rivervale was far and away the toughest place to finish - I'd clear-crop to get more dens to pop and then some [Removed for Content] on a horse would be flying around harvesting only the dens. Only time in my life I've ever wished I was on a PvP server SMILEY

But I got lots of nice rares in compensation, which is very useful for The Proof of the Pudding...

But once I finished there, Feerrott, SS, TT and KP/KJ were easy...

I'll do this again on another alt, but I may wait a while until things calm down.

The simple solution to this would be to add Everfrost, Lavastorm & Steamfont as optional places.

The problem is not with the zone, the quest or the respawn rate.  It's with the PLAYERS.  I did the quest the second day on one character and there was only one other character in the zone.  It took about an hour which is reasonable.  I did the quest the very next day with another character and there were a couple players in the zone, but no one was clearing anything but what they needed.  I went around following and "cleaning up" but those cherry picking the dens seemed to breeze right by and harvest them as they spawned.

Yesterday, on other charcters, it took my girlfriend and I almost 5 hours to get that zone done as people speed by on fast mounts grabbing dens as quickly as they spawn. We filled several bags with raw materials, but that really was not our objective. Funny thing is, some of the players that would shout "Clear the harvests, don't cherry pick" were the ones who were cherry picking.

I have finished it on 2 chrars and my hubby is almost done his second and all I have to say....

WHERE ARE THE DENS?

I never realized how many pelts I could collect till now. However, the Harvest Depot is now overflowing we had to put a stone statue ontop to keep it shut and the amount of rares and collections pieces I now have...well there are a lot.

Wanders off muttering about the Den spawn rate or lack there of and drags out her next 2 toons to start....

So, with a bunch of "IF"/"IIF", "LEFT", "MID", "RIGHT" logic... think it's possible... least as  a final result, but it's giving me a good puzzle... alot more fun that trying to deal with months old data files that just need to be copied and mapped for work... :-/

Anyway, the significant other has left me stranded in EQ2... as he's moved onto another game (not WoW, I'd have to leave him)... but that means I can make my provi food & drink database.

I too am working on this quest.  I am enjoying it although, I am not in a race to finish as I just putter along at my own pace.

I had to post to this thread as it actually made me chuckle enough to log in at work and post.  I have played almost since launch and read the forums that whole time though I don't post often.

Anyway, the reason for the post it that it wasn't that long ago (I did the forum search "pelt drop rate" (sorry I don't know how to link posts)) that we as a forum group in general where saying how there was too much meat dropping as per the broker price of 2c (1c if you wanted to travel to the house).  We needed / wanted more pelts.

Whether they gave them too us or not, I don't know.  But as they say, "the proof is in the pudding" pardon the pun or don't.  I have come to the conclusion that drop rates and respawn rates are nothing more than a matter of perspectice and once the bloom is off this quest we will be back to saying there is too many dens and / or there is too much meat.

Take the opportunity to do some forward planning and hold on to those extra supplies from clear cutting until all the harvesting for the quest is done and when the supply starts to dry up, then add your extras to the broker for some really nice rates of return on all those pelts you have but didn't really want.

Merry Christmas and happy Evercracking

Lady Callexis in my guild has started a provi spreadsheet you might start with. It's available here.

wow, nice list. can I translate it in French ? I wanted to make a provi list, and not only for T8, but I didn't know how to start it, and translating is always a pain.
