I have read up on this on the EQ2 wiki and a few other places but I am still confused.

1.  If I understand it correctly any mob with a ^ above it means its harder and considers heroic. A ^^ mob is heroic and is suggesting you have a small group to take it down though many classes can solo it. A ^^^ is even harder.

2  I have seen names mobs that are ^^ as well as non named. I have also seen named mobs with no ^ so it does not appear just having a name makes it harder correct?

3. Some mobs have a bracket of sorts around their name. It is a special frame but from what I have seen it does not always label them as heroic or put any ^ on them. There is a names guy in Darklight like this. IIRC he has a name (he is in a ruin next to some tower) and he has that funny bracket around his name but he has no ^ and I don't think is says heroic by his name. However, he IS harder than other mobs his level. I soloed him but only when he was green. What does this bracket/frame mean?

(wow sorry that was a long rambling point)

4. About loot, I read heroic mobs have a better chance of good loot and that "named" mobs drop a chest every time. Well I have killed a few named mobs and not got a chest drop. Do they have to be heroic and named? Does that bracket around the name make any difference?

5. Last questions I promise. The achievement XP bar has a count of named mobs you killed. I have killed some mobs with names and it did not count those while it did count others such as the Jungle King (manicore in TD). How can I tell if a mob is named nor not. I guess this question is really just an extension of question 3.

1. Any mob that has a ^ above it is harder, but it is not necesarily heroic. Heroics will usually be ^^^ or a few ^^ or a large group of ^ that are all grouped together.  You can tell if a mob is heroic when you target it. The default UI will show you the brakets and under the mob name it will say Heroic if it is a heroic mob.

2. Just having a name will usually make a mob a bit harder. However there are solo names just like here are heroic names. The solo names are a lot easier and drop less rewards than the heroic names. The heroic names are designed for a group rather than an individual.

3. I'm not really sure what the brakets mean, although mobs with them seem to be a bit harder.

4. A mob does not need to be heroic to be named, but all named do not have a guarantee to drop a chest. Heroic named have a much better chance of dropping a high quality chest than a regular heroic. Some named mobs are there for specific quests and do not drop any chests at all. I expect that is to deter farmers from taking out quest mobs and preventing people from completing their quests.

There is a really nice overview of the monster designations at EQ2i you should take a peek at.The colors also give clues:Red - This foe is 10+ levels higher than you, and it is much too hard for you. You won't be able to hit it much if at all, and it will likely one shot you. Wait until you are older!Orange - This foe will resist or dodge most of what you do and you'll be very lucky to kill it.Yellow - This monster is higher level than you, and you get great experience for killing it. Watch carefully how many arrows, up or down, the thing has, you may need a group!White - This foe is your level, and may be a tough fight. Watch the arrows when deciding if you can solo it!Blue - This foe is slightly lower than your level, and is a good opponent. If it has ^^^ it may still be too hard to solo!Green - This foe should be pretty easy to slay. Do note, though, that even a green ^^^ can be too hard for some classes to solo!Gray - the foe is 10 levels or more below your level and you will not get XP or AA for slaying it.One other thing to look at is the type of frame around the name of the monster.  A "fangy" frame indicates a heroic monster, meant to be tackled by a group.A monster with a scrolled "dragon" type frame is an Epic, and needs two or more groups banded into a raid to kill it. Epic monsters will also have a shield by their name with a number of crowns on the shield. The number of crowns tells you how many groups are needed to fight this foe. When a mob has a bar, shaped like ___,,__,,___ underneath its name, it indicates that the mob is in a linked group... if you click on one that has that sort of thing and glance around, you should see one or two others nearby that it is linked with. If you hit one, they'll all come.  These can sometimes be soloed, and sometimes not - it will depend on how many, and what color, and how many arrows going up or down.

You can go by the above info, or switch your options to the older and better con system by changing your targeting screen to Complex(Arrows) as it is accually far easier and less complex to use. I can't get in game atm to give you specific directions on how to change that, but it is with this system in mind that the "arrow con" instructions are based on.
