I'm looking for a new class to play with.Want to be good for groups (downright desireable for high level groups, the type where people almost want to pay for the class to join). I'm not looking to profit, don't get me wrong, I just want to be needed.Good for raid - every raid wants one.Choosing between illusionist, coercer and conjurer.Any thoughts?

IllusionistNot that the others aren't wanted. Anyone who knows what they are doing would be glad to have a conjuror fill a dps slot in a group but there are lots of conjurors and other dps classes to choose from.Coercers fill a bit more of a support role and will always be taken when mana regen or crowd control is needed but won't necessarily be called in when the group wants a heavy hitter.A dps spec'd illusionist can approach a conjuror's dps in group settings while still being able to provide utilities when called for.

I don't have an illusionist so I can't comment on that class. I do have a conjurer and a coercer. The only reason the coercer is still around is that she is a 72 sage. I probably don't understand how to play a coercer but, for whatever reason, I heartily dislike the class. ... Love my conjurer.

Daghammer hit it on the head. Illusionists are the most desireable overall in the game at the moment. It will take a little doing to get to max level, but its a trip worth taking, and you will never be rejected from the group or the raid if you decide to join it.

I agree. It's also a very fun class to play. Fun spells and illusions too. The pet makes a great tank, which allows you to take on at least white heroic ^^^'s. So long as its rooted of course.

Funny, the only reason my Conj is around is that she's a level 80 alchemist. I stopped playing her when I started my coercer. I sooooo love the class and the tools available to me and the options to charm nearly anything I want.

![]() I tried a conjurer and hate it. especially on groups, just don't have the reflex to send the pet to fight. I prefer coercer and I don't know illusionnist, but solo or group play I think there must be things alike. the big difference is the pet. anyway asking this kind of question is tricky, since everybody think differently and likes or dislikes some things. the best thing to do is to try one and level it a bit to see if you like. Just carefull, illus and coercer don't dps much in early levels and solo is long. safe but long. conjurors are more powerfull and can take down mobs faster. |

I love my conjurer, its an enjoyable class. Why not try all 3? It dosent take long to get to level 20 and get a good feel for each of the classes.

![]() I am starting to think that necro fits my playstyle more. Currently I have a: - 20 Conjurer (old toon from Launch) - 30 Necro (created last month after I returned to EQ2) - 12 Illusionist (also created last month) The necro's "healing" is alot more benefital and the DoTs use ALOT less mana. Originally I found the necro boring since half the time you are standing around watching your DoTs tick away and wishing I had a DD spell to cast with my FULL manabar. Now after leveling the conjurer from level 19 to 20 and being OOM from constantly casting DD spells, I long for the boring DoTs and full manabar. The Illusionist was a experiment, I ran a Froglok to TD to just say that I did it. The illusionist was fun to level to 12th and I will return to playing it sooner or later just to get it to 20th.

Really, out of mana a lot? I find myself going out of mana once in a while (mostly long fights or long strings of quick fights), but not a regular thing... especially at level 20. I started fresh, this was my first character here and i started in kelethin so i am wearing just quest and looted items from my travels. I was able to pick up some level 34 (i think) mastercrafted items off the broker cheap, but thats about it.

Illusionist, lol no question about it if you are asking which class is most desired. I came from WoW last November and I picked the right class.

A conjy will rarely get invited to a raid, as they're just a DPS, and not as good at it as an illy, sorc, rogue, or pred.As for groups, any class can kick some major tail in a group, the player behind the class just has to be good.

I am a raiding conjuror and I think conjs and necros are very desirable in raids. As far as DPS is concerned, we excel at long fights instead of short ones, and since that is what raids are most known for, our DPS is a lot better in raids than in groups. I may not parse higher than a swash or ranger, but it is not rare for me to be in the top 5. As far as utility is concerned, who hasn't asked for a call of hero in a raid? In zones with repoping mobs, we can be a very useful tool. How about mana regen? Although we aren't the best at it, we can impact the entire raid instead of just one group. A bard will help with mana regen, but only the other 5 people in the group are benefited. If you have at least one conj and one necro in the raid, you constantly have access to shards and hearts. Now lets talk about pet pulling. Sure, you can send in a mystic pet for normal pet pulls, but what if his second or third hit is a long stun, pacify, etc and you don't want the MT to take it? A plane shifted conj tank pet with vehement skin on is an awesome decision and used quite frequently. As far is the OP is concerned, I agree 100% that Illys are the most desirable in groups and raids. They are OK at DPS and can even excel at it if you know what you are doing and they are great crowd control. But, like everything else in life, things change. By the time you get to the level cap, a new expansion might have been released and the new raid targets might need the necessary use of other classes (ie: when KoS first came out, an Illy was worthless for killing the final mob, but a coercer's mem wipe was a necessity.) I would say that there are no classes that people hate having in raids or groups, as everyone has something to offer. |

Thanks for all the great responses. I'll try the illusionist for a while and see how things go. I just wanted to make sure I was making a choice that was going to be useful later. Seems like illusionist is a bit rare, so I wasn't sure if that was because it was a difficult class, or because it was useless.
