Rares avoid me almost always.  Their avoidance is too high.  Plz nerf it.  Even ROK epic mobs don't have that high avoidance.

I think they are again. I havent gotten a soft or hard metal rare in about a month now. In short, I have given up harvesting for rares for the most part and leave it to the botters. Apparently if you arent harvesting 24x7 you cant get them. The only ones I have found in the last month are a couple of mantrap roots and a couple mahogany.

I don't know if the avoidence needs to be nerfed or not, but kudos on the entertaining way of asking. I'm still chuckling. Thank you SMILEY

Last night I got my first mined rare in about 2 weeks, and I have been grinding writs in Bellywhumper and Brute caves in Kunzar. I agree rares are rare again. I don't have an issue with that personally

I wanna go back to the time when Rares were uncommon, uncommons where rare, and commons were already in your bag by the time you logged into the game (July of '07)

Ya master chests and legendary chests drop like mad anymore.  When I first came to EQ2 it was like 3-5 months before I saw my first master since I was never given the opportunity to raid.  Getting a rare from harvesting was next to impossible.  Was lucky enough that after my 100th ore cluster I got a rare metal.

Now I take like 20min out of my time to harvest for guildies and I get 1 rare sometimes up to 3.

In RoK? I find that hard to believe.Lower lvl tiers I can see easy as the lower the tier the better your chances (as updated not so long ago).

Quit farming Varsoon Amana SMILEYAnd like Sidori if you are referring to rok I am calling LIES and Shanagans on that statement. Same for rares there too -Now taking this toon to Thundering Steppes or any other lower tier is a different story. I think I acquired about a dozen rares while completing the feeding the halfling quest in Thundering Steppes. For the record - I could care less about rare drop rates anymore. There is nothing left in this expansion I want to craft at this time. The few housing items I felt were good I have acquired already and am actually considering selling off my crafting alts on the exchange for someone else to play with.I looked at the broker this morning for "mahogany" as the search term. I would expect the mahogany timber to come up first, several pages of it as least but in fact I got almost 4 1/2 pages of finished products listed FIRST, followed by the raw rare materials interspersed with finish products. That to me was the tolling of the bell for my crafting investment. As long as people are willing to sell their time and skill for cheaper than the base materials it will always be better for others to sell the rares and buy the finished products and still make a profit. Times like these I wish Domino had implemented what was suggested last year in the way of an ability to transmute mastercrafted items merely to extract the rare component. I would make a killing in this market SMILEY

Do I get to tell my "Back in MY day" rares story? It's random, random, random.  Someone may have gotten 2 T8 rares in 20 minutes.  (And that's it for them for like a month....)

Well, i've been on a bit of a hiatus from game since Christmas, so nearly a month coming up here, and maybe it got changed in that time period, but I have harvested about 138 T8 rares or so since RoK came out. I have at least 10 of each type of rare, and honestly I was only harvesting enough so that I could grind crafting writs.

Also, I have been online once or twice in the last couple of weeks as well, and i've harvested at least 5 rares. At the time I just harvested a few nodes while I was working on quests in Kunzar, so I think that the harvest rate for rares is about the same as it has been.

If you are having bad luck just give it time, it will in fact turn around eventually. You just need to get the random number generator to like you better. I think that taking it out to dinner and buying it lots of pretty flowers really helped me out in that area... SMILEY

Just my 2cp.

I wish those of you having bad harvesting luck a better time of it in the future.

Edited to add that all my harvesting listed above was T8
