I'm currently a 52 (almost 53) Coercer and I'm having a hard time soloing Giants in SS. i dont know why this is. I have Master 1 Dominate lvl 47 charm (i believe). and i charm the wizzy giants and use them against other giants 1v1 but i cant seem to win and i dont know why. This is my strategy.i have the pet on follow ONLY and send him into attack so he casts nuke. then back off immediately, wait a bit. and repeat. all while keeping root maintained with my DoTs and stuns but eventually root will break on me from a nuke or something and the giant enemy will get me. what can i do to make this easier? i can kill the ghouls easily by clefts. but there is nowhere i know of to solo for good XP at 52 as a Coercer. and i need better tactics i guess. any suggestions/tips on soloing/soloing places would be very helpful. thank you!-

I'm afraid I don't exactly remember the good soloing places for that level (although I think I used a ghoul of some sort for a pet in that zone), but one tip for you is to make a macro that has /pet attack and /pet ranged.  That'll tell your pet to keep its distance, and it'll just nuke away.  Much easier than attack/back off over and over.  Other than that, just be ready to reroot when needed.  On particularly tough mobs, I'll often keep them stunned or at least have the stun proc on them so if root does break, they can't do too much to you before you get it reapplied.

Hmm.  I didn't have much trouble with those guys once they were even con to me, using the same M1 charm.

My ^^^ heroic strategy is a little different from yours, however.  I set the pet to use ranged attacks:  /pet ranged   then just have him attack.  Unless my pet's mob AI is being wonky so he runs into melee range I don't usually need to back him off at all.  Indeed I want him to unload as much DPS as fast as possible -- no pauses please!  Meanwhile, I focus on keeping my target stunned, stifled, dazed -- whatever is appropriate -- and most importantly ROOTED.  I'll mezz if I need extra time to keep root on him (or a stun/stifle on a caster).  I don't cast a lot of DPS spells myself, apart from reactives.  Probably I could work more in but I really focus on sticking that root because if the mob reachs me or the pet my chances for winning dip sharply.

One UI mod I've found helpful is the Othesus pet window.  It adds both a /pet ranged button, and an attack button that also turns defend/guard back on -- both super handy if you find you need to reposition the pet off because your target worked his way into melee range.

Hope this helps ~Firebuck

Dont forget to throw mindbend on the mob ( I dont know if you have it yet, havent been that level in ages SMILEY) that way if it breaks the root and hits you/pet, you get a couple of seconds to gain control again. Try not to give in to the urge to re-root when it hasn't broken (of course if theres 5 seconds left, reroot). I used to do that a lot, and all it does is give you a few seconds where you dont have a root.

I like to keep one of my stuns for when a  root breaks, since if the mob is up in your face it wont be able to hit you. Another thing I do is use silence combined with the daze to make a ghetto stun that last a decent amount of time.

Keeping max range is another good idea, as well as having you and your charm positioned differently (if the charm has aggro it'll run away from you which is a good thing SMILEY)

Giants are pretty easy to do since they dont have any adds. Dungeon soloing is very hard , especially most name with adds , and i adds are allover the room your encounter mezz wont work on all of them , so u wait till they all gather beating on your pet then u mezz , half is getting resisted by the time u gain control your pet is dead P I wonder if any of the people that say its easy to do, can post their strategy in dealing with such encounters , i played this game for quite some time tried different classes and i dont know how to. So share -))

You'll have no problem now that you know /pet ranged exists. All I spend power on now while soloing is root, stun, stifle.
