I'm new to this game and I plan on making a Sarnak Bruiser when Rise of Kunark comes out. I'm looking for some very basic info on Bruisers.

1.) What stats should I focus on?

2.) What are the bread and butter skills of the class? What abilities should I get in the habit of using very early on?

3.) If I want to make armor for myself, should I go for tailoring? Or is there a leatherworking trade? Sorry for my ignorence, I come from WOW, so this is all very new to me.

4.) When I get to grouping level and start trying to find parties, should I advertise myself as a tank or as dps? Which role do bruisers normally play in a typical XP or questing group situation?

-- STR and STA primarily. STR will increase your damage and STA increases your hitpoints

2.) What are the bread and butter skills of the class? What abilities should I get in the habit of using very early on?

-- Feign death and our self heal line are the two skills most people associate with bruisers. Both are very useful and both will save your butt many many times

3.) If I want to make armor for myself, should I go for tailoring? Or is there a leatherworking trade? Sorry for my ignorence, I come from WOW, so this is all very new to me.

-- Tailors make leather and cloth armour, as well as bags and some other misc stuff I think. Other good tradeskills for a bruiser include Alchemist and Jeweler to make your own skill upgrades or jewelry respectively

4.) When I get to grouping level and start trying to find parties, should I advertise myself as a tank or as dps? Which role do bruisers normally play in a typical XP or questing group situation?

-- That depends more on your play style. Bruisers can tank 99% of all single group content in the game with ease, so if you like tanking and see a group looking for a tank, send them a tell. Bruisers can also do some decent dps, although you'll never touch a mage or a scout on the zonewide parse unless they're seriously slacking.

My question doesn't warrant its own thread and I figure this is as good a place as any to ask it, so here it is:

Is there a weight limit I should be worried about? I know it was something like 14 lbs. in EQ for monks, but I haven't been able to find any documentation on that for EQ II.

Nope, nothing you need to worry about. Especially with STR being a primary stat for brawlers. It used to be that the squishy classes could have issues during levelling because of the amount of coin they were carrying. Hoiking around several thousand copper pieces being the normal culprit. But now all coin is automatically exchanged for the gold and silver equivalents, this is no longer an issue.

Yah, even mages at higher levels are usually lugging about a box or three.  But your strength will be so high by 30, you can carry six 32 slot rosewood boxes about.  Not very sane, RP-wise, but certainly nothing about which your brawler need ever concern himself/herself.
