wonderful image, and remember: elf sells better than some cartoonish lizzy or aviak!

Would it be possible to get that image on the box in a bigger resolution without any text and such?Preferably in 1600x1200?

My thoughts have already been posted pretty much. Why isn't it something that relates more towards Kunark?

I think it looks great, and it makes sense to not have RoK stuff on the cover. They are selling it as the "complete EQ2 game including RoK", not as "RoK with the rest of EQ2". I'm sure they are going to do away with all other retail versions of the game and just sell this as a way to be less confusing for people new to EQ2.

Nice looking, but I too fail to grasp the tie to Kunark. *puzzled*

This made me think of  Drittz Du'Urden, and that made me think of R. A. Salavatore and then that made me think of 38 Studios. It certainly did not make me think of Kunark.

There is probably a reason this box art is not Kunark themed.  Why would it just be Kunark themed when it has all 4 expansions in it, and it is geared towards new players, because old players will buy the expansion no matter what?My opinion:  This box is not meant to attract anyone who knows anything about Kunark.  Anyone who knows anything about Kunark is buying the expansion regardless!  Think about it, this box is not meant for us, its meant to attract a new crowd, and for it's purpose, I think it succeeds.  Plus this is not a box containing just Kunark.  It also contains all the other continents/expansioins, so it shouldn't be just themed for one aspect of the game.  They are trying something different this time, and I'm sorry but I don't think the DoF, KoS, and EoF box arts were very good.  You can only put the leaders of Qeynos and Freeport in so many positions before it gets boring.  Perhaps, from a marketing standpoint they are learning from what Guild Wars and WoW does with their boxes, because they are obviously doing something right.

Notice how at the very top of the box art it says it's an All-in-one package that included RoK?

That looks more like the whole EQ2 game with all expansions than Kunark to me.

And that's exactly what it should be.  It's the complete game including the Kunark expansion meant to attract new subscribers, not the Kunark expansion hoping to satisfy current subscribers.  I know that's blunt and to the point, but I'm sure Sony knows that almost all of us are buying the expansion, no matter what the heck is on the cover.  SMILEY<img src=" />

Okay. But then I still don't understand why a dark elf, rather than one of the game's central characters, or something that's more iconic from the EverQuest games.

Quite simply:  from a marketing standpoint, it just looks cooler.  SMILEY<img mce_tsrc=     I don't know about you but I'm tired of seeing how many different positions Sony thinks they can put Antonia and Lucan in.

I'm with the majority of posters on this one.... the art is really cool but doesn't really fit the expansion and I don't understand why a dark elf if it's supposed to reflect the all-in-one aspect?

Seems it would make more sense to have more of a Kunark-esque feel to it blended with Antonia and Lucan, but that's just my opinion.

Wait, was Antonia and Lucan even on any of the box art aside from the original game's?I dunno, it just doesn't seem very EQ-ish, and seems to mimic other MMO box art too closely.  (See:  World of Warcraft Night Elf box art, or various Guild Wars box art.)

Man, and I was really hoping for a big green walking cactus, or maybe a picture of those damned DE guards in The Overthere that used to give everyone hell.

Maybe they should call it "all-in-one box art" not "Rise of Kunark box art".

Yes, they were both on the DoF and KoS covers.  Yep you're right, it looks very similar to the Guild Wars boxes especially.

i have a strong dislike for the box art. its well done, but it has nothing to do with kunark. Echoes of faydwer and kingdom of sky had relevent box art, why cant the kunark expansion have a kunark-related box? i understand you are selling it as an all in one, but EoF was all in one, KoS was all in one, they both had art that identified them as EoF and KoS, but now you have a dark elf emblazoning kunark. whats next? a gnome on the cover for whenever velious comes out?very bad selection in this situation

I'm not going to even bother reading that longest-paragraph ever post above! Hurts the eyes!As for the box art...people it's just a box! Who cares what they put on it? 90% of people have never heard of Kunark and what it is. SOE is drawing new players to the game...and to them Kunark means nothing. To us die-hard fans we get it. We know what Kunark is and what the game is going to look like as we'll probably have BETA tested it beforehand, so we'd buy it if it were nothing but a white box with black letters that said RoK and the only other thing adorning it were the SOE logo.My point is it's the content that's inside that people should be concerned with. I think personally it's a brilliant move on SOE's part to attract new customers. 90% of people know what a Dark Elf is and the fact that they're well represented in EQ2; which many people have pointed out that RoK is about the whole product, not just Kunark, just leads me to believe, again, it's a brilliant marketing idea.My boxes sit in boxes or on a shelf collecting dust. I don't ever look at them more than a handful of times since I purchased them. So relax. Enjoy the fine art and let's look for that in our hands on release day!Regards,

I care about what's put on the box because I'm one of many who thinks that EQ2 could use more exposure than it's getting, and I don't think putting a stereotypical dark elf dude on the box is a good way of getting EQ2 out there.More people relate to EverQuest with Kunark and Velious than you'd think.  If anything, a more Kunark related box art would attract former players of EQ1.

We're getting a lot of ex-EQ1 people already, and why would SoE want to increase EQ2 subs at the expense of EQ1 subs, what would be the point in that. The aim here, is to convince people who don't already play EQ2 that we are alive, well, and able to compete head to head with newer MMO's and those yet to be released.Avoiding the word "expansion", avoids the chance that people will glance at the box and mistakenly believe it is too late to join EQ2.This is a fantastic and positive move by SoE, an attempt to reposition EQ2 in the first half of an MMO's life-cycle (healthy with rising subs), rather than the second half (ancient game, declining subs, only current players bother to buy expansions, EQ1 anybody?).Now we just need the invasion of shop shelves to also include non-US shops.  At the moment local shops in the UK haven't heard about RoK and most staff working their vaguely remember there once being an old MMO called EQ2 SMILEY
