Working on bringing eq2census back...  Here's one of the things I'm working on: dynamic charting http://eq2census.com/beta/active.php That is "active" players per day, server wide, for roughly the past 2 weeks.  The caveat with this data is I determine activity based upon gaining levels in combat or tradeskills ---  Obviously there are a large number of level 70s who simply do not gain levels anymore, so the true number of active characters is considerably higher than this, however the overall trending is still interesting to see. So things to keep in mind:
  • Level 70s who didn't gain a trade level are not accounted for
  • Characters who played yet simply didn't gain combat/trade levels are not accounted for
  • The dates really 24-hours ahead of when the activity occurred.  That's why you see a higher number over August 4th - 6th (Sat-Mon) yet this really is data applicable to Aug 3-5th (Fri-Sat)
Any comments?

Nope.  No way to track AA that I am aware of.  Wish I knew a way... Edit: No easy way.  There are 1.5 million characters and accessing their http://eq2players.station.sony.com/...vm?characterId= page every day for every character is simply not feasible.

Yeah.. that's why I edited SMILEY  Maybe I could track AA for a certain subset of characters (maybe just 70s?) but right now it's not very realistic for full scale tracking without having a hookup from SOE (I dont think they like my site in the first place)

Thats still 92,861 characters that are 70 with roughly 1,350 people gaining 70 every day.

so how many subscribers are there REALLY?  and could you define "serverwide"?  Do you mean one server or all servers, all sides?

A good number of those accounts must be dormant. Unless Guk is the only server with relatively few players, I just don't see that many people still playing. Perhaps first you should seek to find the actual number of active accounts and then see if tracking the AAs of only actively played accounts is doable.

That graph is a graph of people who have leveled tradeskill or regular level each day... ?You cannot count accounts off of that because:

A: People have multiple characters

B: Some people are maxed levels

C: Not everyone who pays money a month logs in everyday

D: Some people log in but dont level.

By serverwide I mean across all servers.  Freeport/Qeynos/Exile is irrelevant. Josgar is absolutely correct, you cannot ascertain the number of subscribers from this.  There are the the un-accounted-for characters which I mentioned above and also the fact that someone may level each of their 5 alts in a given day, thus skewing the data. That is why I said characters and not players/subscribers SMILEY sayitaintso: A good number of which accounts must be dormant?  The overall accounts? Of course they are numerous dormant accounts/characters. In my chart though, those are active characters right now for those given dates.  I can provide you with leveling history for each and every one of them over that time period if it was needed.   There is also the fact that I'm not trying to obtain the number of subscribers so it's not an issue to me.  When you are playing the game, it should be the number of characters in-game that you can see/interact/play with that matters.  If one person is playing 3 different characters for 8 hours each a day ...  Why shouldn't that be counted as effectively 3 different people contributing to the overall daily active population? Also, with any data, it's going to be skewed.  However the data still presents a very clear trending.  After the Game Update on July 31st, there was a very large influx of people that played the next day (Aug-02 on graph, remember its 24hours ahead per day).  Also there is a very clear rise for the Fri-Sun period and then it falls during the week.

What server do you play on?  You know.. that's an idea I might be able to offer on the site:  Provide a list of "active" players in a certain level range.  So you could have a group of people you might want to add to friends list and/or send tells... Thanks SMILEY Also the chart is up to date: http://www.eq2census.com/beta/active.php As you see, the 15th (remember its 24hrs ahead, so the 14th) reflects a much smaller active population.. correlates perfectly to eq2 being unavailable most of the day on Tuesday due to downtime/patch

Here's the same data (subject to the same caveats) for Blackburrow: http://www.eq2census.com/beta/active103.php
