Was thinking today what a good idea it would be for players who know they are going to be extended AFK for whatever reason should advertise on lower level channels for high level toons to come and mentor them while they are AFK.

This would enable the higher level toons to get AA for old quests or hunt around for quest starters/chest drops they never got a chance to find on their way up their levels or farm for transmutables.

What do you think?  I cant recall ever seeing people advertise long-period AFK and mentoring on level channels before.

That is because it would take too long to wait for the person to join group, get to the zone and then mentor. Most people log out if they are going to be afk for a long time. For unplanned afk's they ussually just /afk and leave reguardless of who is around.

I have asked guildies to let me mentor them while they are afk though, so the idea has merit but for something done by guildies.

Forced mentoring.

A level 70 walks in and says, "Hey, pipsqueak! I'm gonna mentor you or I'm gonna gut you! Make your choice..." The level 70 then becomes a level 17 and turns in a bunch of quests making AA even easier than before.

I don't like the idea either.

Talking PvE here. At the moment you go through levels so fast that doing all the quests you want and getting AA is proving difficult to achieve. Anyway, this idea is entirely player-side so if you dont want to do it, you dont have to. If you want to charge for the priviledge, go ahead...if you want to do it for free good for you!

Could be a good money-spinner for lowbies short of cash.

If I see lower toons LFG on EFP Docks I pay them a few gold for their time so I can get AA from greyed quests, some entrepreneuring low toons could even monopolise on this. OMG what have I done - be ready for new Spam mails: "We Mentor, get AA you for grey those quests- Cheap reliable service" SMILEY

Well, you can only mentor people you are grouped with, and if you really ARE afk you will not be around to accept any group invitations.
