I seem to remember someone asking me that question about a year and a half to two years ago, cos they just noticed it then SMILEY

Note: I think thats about the timeframe, but it was quite some time ago so I cant really remember

From the information I've gathered over the years, there have always been the two moons of Drinal and Luclin.  The Mistress of Shadows had kept a veil of darkness hidden around the moon which bears her name till it was destroyed in the Shattering.

The sun of Norrath is known simply as Ro.  There are three additional planets in the Ro system (sometimes also classified as moons of Norrath), known as Anbeal, Trorsmang, and Cordan.  You can view these celestial bodies in the Tower of the Moon in Maj'Dul (and they could be viewed from the isles of the Plane of Sky in old Everquest).

Are the other planets inhabited by anything and are there any lore stories of them? Until you said that, I had no idea there were other planets or the sun was called "Ro" :p .

As has been said already, Drinal has always been in-game. It simply isn't as noticable (or spectacular) as Luclin and her nebula-like debris ring. Posts like this have popped up several times since launch though, leading me to wonder... Is there some sort of defined flight path for the celestial bodies in-game? I have to admit that I've never actually noticed, for example, if luclin always rises and sets in the same place. And if it doesnt, is this by design, or simply a 'happy accident' of the way the sky in each zone is implimented? My reason for wondering, is that I notice Luclin all the time, but Drinal, notsomuch. I wonder if it's possible that it doesnt appear in the sky with the same frequency as Luclin, or if, as I pointed out, it's simply far less remarkable, so we don't notice it as much. we DO know that don't orbit with the same linear path.. As evidenced in the following (cheesy SMILEY) picture... I've seen a number of interesting 'sky events' during my time in game.. so obviously there is at least a basic random aspect... I just wonder if it's possible that Drinal isn't always in our 'hemisphere'... (Proof of said moons and strange orbits... also, your daily dose of dramatic flair. What do you expect, I'm a swashbuckler.)

I know it's been established by previous posters but I just wanted to add another confirmation of Drinal being around since launch.  I specifically remember thinking, "Oh, Drinal is still in the sky" November 14th, 2004.  <3

I've personally never had a huge interest in lore, but this has me curious.  Can we get some lore links/posts about Drinal and the other celestial bodies?  I played EQ for almost 6 years and EQ2 for about a year now and I can honestly say I had absolutely no idea there was a 2nd moon or other planets... I guess I live in my own little world.

I know there are loremasters out there, hook it up please SMILEY

There's no actual information known about the planets of Anbeal, Cordan, or Trorsmang. Before EQ2 started, we assumed they were also moons that orbited around Norrath. EQ2 lore confirms that they are other planets in the Ro system.

There is, to be quite blunt, no further information about these celestial bodies.

Drinal itself is the same composition as Earth's own Luna. It's an atmosphereless rock with no life. Drinal is named after the natural spirit of death (Spirit, not God.) Again, no further information is known about it.

If Vhalen or any of the other developers would care to enlighten us further on these celestial bodies, we welcome it.

If those beastlord abominations ever make it back, I hope the Hole returns, too, so there's a place where we can drop 'em.

But I could have sworn there were 3 moons. Luclin of course, Drinal and a third one. And the third one wasn't visible or not always visible? Or it was Drinal that wasn't visible or not always visible and the third one along Luclin was? But then again I am not good with the lore, I could very well be remembering this wrongly. and probably am. But isn't there 3 moons in EQ1? And i can confirm the second moon rising and sitting alongside Luclin at night has been for as long as I can remember, although i can't remember it being so bright. I am returning though after 6 month hiatus (*again*). I was just now sitting in Qeynos harbor enjoying the moonlights.

In EQ1, Drinal had a north-south orbit. If I recall correctly it rose in the south... I used to watch it rise as I ran through South Karana sometimes on my way to Lake Rathetear and Rathe Mountains.

In EQ1 you can only see Drinal since Luclin is still behind the goddess veil of shadows. From the plane of sky you can see Luclin (the ringed moon) too however. Presumably sky is above the "veil" or ignores it.

Too bad that the Direct X 9 patch of 2004 has permanently removed the appearances of the other planets or Luclin from the game.

EQ1 has a different sky now to how things were  at launch. This came with DirectX 9.

Yeah in May of 2004, they forced all players to upgrade to DX9, with which they threw out the old sky graphics in favor of new ones that more smoothly showed the sun and moon moving across the sky, starry nights, and other stuff. The Plane of Sky was permanently changed too, as Luclin, Cordan, Anbeal, and Trorsmang were now permanently gone forever in the sky.

That sounds like one step forward and two steps back.

I did a nostalgia tour of EQ1 in November of last year, but paid only limited attention to what did or didn't show in the night sky.  I did notice the daytime sky looked more realistic than early EQ1... and no more UFOs in Ro skies. LOL.

The changes to the Ro zones were a startling surprise too; I just spotted some screenshots showing a total revamp of Highpass more recently.

Sounds like the missing moon is the Black moon of Krynn SMILEY I wonder if only Necros can see it here?
