I don't know if this has been asked before, but I was wondering what was the more experienced Swashies opinion about what SoD reward to choose,  taking into account the changes on Test, where all dw will be changed into sw.

I was also wondering what is the feeling of the community regarding the "class weapon" that will be coming up on the next expansion.  Slashing as in a pirate's cutlass or piercing as in a musqueteer's rapier?

 Thanks for your answers,

 Sleepy, Swashie of Nektulos

I personally think the rapier is a good choice from SoD cause really the sword is more made for tanks as it has the bonus to shields. When the weapons change in 37 the rapier will become a pretty nice 1h to use. Though I don't know what it looks like post conversion as it is now, it is pretty good. Also I imagine our epic weapon come expansion is going to be a cutlass/rapier weapon as that is what generally is viewed to be used by "pirate types" most likely it will be piercing as that is what most rapiers end up as *even though we dont really swing it right for it to be counted like that.

These show the current Sabre as it exists on Test as a 1h weapon. I'm still not sure which one to take, the Gladius has better stats with a 3s delay but the shield block is worthless to us. The sabre's stats are worse and the damage rating is lower (not much but it is). The +5 DPS mod is much better for us then the shield block but does it really matter that much? Does it make-up for the gap in stats and DR with the Gladius? I will be holding off on making a decision until after the changes are finalized and released to the live servers, who knows what they might do to the weapons before then.

finished this quest tonight

had to cross my fingers and pick the sabre

I am really hoping I did the right thing. The isnt a decent option for onehanded scouts here atm and I can only hope the stats of the new piercer are on par with the gladius.

anyoen seen any other mod info on this? seems daft to have put in a quest reward before the dw/onehander update

Higher int on the gladius means slightly more poison and proc damage, especially when your int is low.  As far as the DPS versus shield block, getting DPS bonuses above 100 is not hard.  As to how useful the shield block bonus will be, who knows what SOE will change in the future.

With all the changes already implemented and the ones to come......sigh....its hard to keep everything organized......

so......I want the rapier 'cause of the dps boost but the question is.....

Does it satisfy the "sword" requirement on the AA Tree?

....As I understand things as they exist now, it does not.....sigh.....

but the next question is.....will this rapier satisfy the "sword" requirement when the weapon "changes" are implemented?

Like every good Swashbuckler I don't want to regret my choice considering that it takes some effort to finish all the quests.......

Anyone got the answer and willing to share with the rest of us?!

Weapon requirements for the Str, Agi and Int lines have been removed as of last update.  You still need a shield for Sta and you still need a free off-hand for Wis.

After the 1h/dual wield  change goes in, the Sabre will far outdo the gladius. It's going to be on-par with the Wuoshi axe, perhaps even better, given the proc. In the meantime, the gladius is indeed better, but I will be picking the sabre anyway. One, with time, it will be far better, and two, the gladius looks like [Removed for Content].

How do you figure that? On test Gladius has a better DR and min/max ratio and at max dps the Sabre's +5 dps has no effect.

Damage rating means nothing. The max damage is far better on the sabre, not to mention more procs due to delay. It will crit more, etc etc...It's just better.

Well here is my prediction if they don't change the values for Soulfire Sabre on test. Graphing from 0 to 100 crit chance. Top bar is max potential. Second solid bar is expect average performance while casting CAs. Dotted line is expected performance when CA chaining and bottom line is Worst case scenario for both weapons when casting CAs. Graphing from 0 to 125 haste. Top bar is max potential. Second solid bar is expect average performance while casting CAs. Dotted line is expected performance when CA chaining and bottom line is Worst case scenario for both weapons when casting CAs. In the best and average case, Gladius will out perform Sabre. If you Chain CAs Sabre will beat Gladius. I even factored in the 5% dps mod.

I'll make the assumption that that means you are Agi Wis speced instead of Str Wis speced so you loose 13% melee crit chance. Graph 0-100 crit Graph 0-125 haste In this case Gladius will also perform better when CA chaining.

It's true.

Although I'll say it's starting to get EXCRUCIATING, the waiting. They're pushing the dw/1h changes back *even further*. Now scheduled for update 38.... /sigh

With the current confusion between DW and 1H rewards for those who are 1H users and tempted by the Sabre but choose the Gladius because they dont trust SOE on the DW changes I hope that SOE enables the SOD rewards to be swapped after the DW changes go in (if they ever do). SMILEY

Preferably they should make a statement on this now rather than later so people can base their reward choices on it.
