I went into total raid burnout after 5 raids in 2 days.   Soooo,

I went and started a new toon for fun.  A Big Barbarian Guardian babe with a bad attitude.

Here is the catch.  NO COMBAT EXP....EVER.

Things went quite well on the Island.  Made it to level 6 before running out of quest, discovery and item exp.  I held onto the two collections until level ten for the AA.   Have her up to 17 and 11 AA in 3 days.  I currently have enough quest from from the books, and antonica alone to get me close to 25 at current rate.  Having to pace it so as to not grey them out either.

Do any of you fellow players know of anybody else that has gone down this path for exp?  I mean, would it be possible to get to 70 this way?

I have a 53 Dirge who has done the same thing.  It really allows you to work through each area - the quests, lore, etc.  It will certainly help you become knowledgeable about your class and make upgrading gear actually worth the effort.

Cheers.

i strongly reccomend betrayal at lvl tenish jstu for he quest xp and aa  u can maintaint ur class or even return to your starting city and still get it also the new zones are great for thsi darklight , gfay , butcherblock etc.

and as long as your not on a pvp server you can kill yourself repeatedly to build up xp debt so that quest xp doesnt ding u as fast

its completly possible to if you realy balance it have upwards of 40 + aa by lvl 20

and if u realy want to max the aa aspect once u quests everythign in your level range group with a higher level toona nd go tag along while they kill names in all the zones ( as long as it cons to them ) you wont get xp but you will get aa

currently doign only half of that jsut disabling xp and doing quests and collections ive gottne my lvl 30 (freeport) fae  30 + aa

Yep, doing that with most of my alts after caving to guildie pressure and racing through the levels with my main.  Fantastic way to enjoy the game and everything it has to offer.

Wouldn't it be interesting if an entire guild started at 0 and all members played with this philosophy?  Working through all the quests with regular groups, all of whom are locking xp down and enjoying the game would be excellent.  I'd join that guild in a second.

I've leveled an inquisitor to level 32 with 39 AA. Turned xp off around level 20. It is fantastic experience. Upgrading gear and spells actually mean something.

I never lock my exp, however at level 30+ i always have more AAs then levels. My last two characters ended with 96/98 AAs at level 70. A friend got 100 AAs at 66-67 with his bruiser, and also never locked exp, however .. that char is now still not level 70 .. lol.

This is fun to do SMILEY After getting a few high level toons, I started a Monk. Once I got to level 10 I shut off my exp and all I did was quests, collections, and killed named mobs. He's level 33 with 34 AA's, and I feel he is as least twice as powerful as any other toon I've had at that level. I intend to try and keep him that way, only leveling off of quests. I think its quite possible, because even while getting to 33, I  have quite a few quests that are about to turn grey. Since level 10 or so I've been doing the lowest level quests I have first, and by the time I have done them all I level enough always have quests that are green, about to go grey. I like how Sony made it so if you want, you could level purely off of quests, and its still pretty fast exp, and great AA! I just never tried it before ^_^

Yes, I am a fan of quest exp only leveling myself. I started Raphaela about a year ago on The Bazaar server. Since that was pre EoF AA, she onyl has like 56 Achievement levels. Still it has been a fun time. I have learned to take ^^^ heroic named mobs with ease. Just started an active hydra with a secondary mystic character. That character is now adventure level 19 with 18 levels of achievement.

Wait, some people actually read what the NPC's say? (Guilty of clicking the top option rapidly always, and getting frustrated when it isn't the pattern to get a quest)

I'd join a guild like Kraaj mentioned. I think it would be fun, in fact I can think of doing it 3 times; once to go through Neriak/Commonlands, once to go through EoF and once to go through Qeynos/Antonica.

I did that with my last character (Mystic, level 41) and I'm doing it with my current (Warden, level 17).

Being able to rack up a bunch of AAs at low level makes it much more fun when leveling up.

As mentioned above, this is the norm for a large percentage of experienced PvPers.  It was worse when you could rack up death debt, and negate levelling up when turning in quests, or complete while dead.  SMILEY

But on a PvE server, you'll have an edge over a quite a few in your tier, I'd assume.

A few months ago I found out a guidemate was doing that, and when I grouped with her, I also turned off my xp and liked it so much that 5 of my 7 alts have it turned off. New characters have it turned off at 20, and after 3+ years here, I'm doing quests that I never saw before. There's a wonderful lot to this game but been flying by a lot of it by leveling so fast. Now, I'm a confirmed combat xp disabler.

Thought I would add, to my knowledge, our guild which has about 40 members, only three that I know of have turned off their combat xp.

I applaud the op, and in answer to his question, yes, you can get to 70 with not too much effort, just on quest and discovery exp. It's not for everyone, but I know who will get the most out of the game between the 'race to 70 crew' and the op SMILEYonya mate!

You run out of quests at around level 64. 60-70 really just doesn't have enough quests for you to manage to get to level 70 without any sort of combat XP. I've never locked, but I had 100 achievement by level 70 on both of my characters because I don't grind - I just quest to level. When you hit the 60s the quests seriously dry up and trying to level without using lots of mobs in instances and such really is bloody impossible.

I have been doing variations of this since EoF lauched. My lvl 70/100 Shadowknight levelled to about 65 with quests only. The quests do run dry around lvl 65 so after that I had to group and do things like the prismatics, peacock and claymore lines.

I also have been tri-boxing a guardian/warden/illusionist for a bit now thats lvl 26 with 36 AA. They have had Combat Experience turned off since lvl 10. These toons make my lvl 57, 44 and 42 that have 15-20 AA look pretty weak.

(please forgive me...I'm not trying to sound facetious here....)Ummm...I thought that's how you were supposed to level in EQII. Again, forgive me. I'm new to the game (just bought it last week). I played EQ1 and I remember that to level meant to kill...quests were few and far between and were for gear, usually, not xp. I went from there to WoW, GW, LotRO, etc. I don't know what made me look at EQII; when I quit after my raid guild completed the second to last raid in G.O.D., I said "never again", but I d/l'ed the free trial and the number one thing I saw different was...? QUESTS!I'm a hardcore quester at heart. I love doing them. So far, in my baby monk's 25 levels of life, I've had to delete I think more quests than I've completed due to there being so many that many go grey before I can get to them. I've done some questing in Antonica, but you can actually get to 20 without ever going outside the Qeynos zones... It's so far and away above the old EQ leveling paradigm that it's almost surreal. Then I peruse the forums more and find more and more people talking about leveling via combat and not questing and to do it via questing be a novel idea?! LOL *sigh* color me confused. I find myself leveling incidental to questing. At any rate, what was the question? Oh yeah! Questing to level is somehow a novel idea people have to be convinced to try?? ...wow...LOL Sorry. SMILEY<img src=" />The mere fact that there are so many quests that you can't possibly do them all without most of them turning grey on you quickly is what sold me on coming back to a Sony product. My current quest log has 25+ quests in it. I've deleted more than 50, I'm sure, over the past few days, because I just leveled past them. I get tons of orange rings on my map everywhere I go.Personally, I'm hesitant about joining a guild, or even grouping... Too many bad experiences have left me gunshy of the whole guild thing. I'm on AB and I'm in RP mode about 99.9% of the time, but who says you have to be in a guild and surround yourself with people to be rp'ing?errr...to the question once more, and this time with absolutely no tongues in any cheeks... Really, people level in EQII without questing, as a norm? I hadn't even considered it, to be honest.

I remember reading about this on the EQ2-Daily forums (the old ones, not the new ones).  They have a guild with alts that lock exp and try to do as many quests as they can.  I just looked at EQ2Players and the guild is named "Slow Burn" on Antonia Bayle.  They are all between 9 and 16, with an average 50 quests complete per member. One of these days I was thinking about going to try it out, but I have been on my main a lot recently.  I guess that's what happens when your main is not 70/100...I just hit 60 this weekend!
