I've seen plenty of discussion here on this subject, but in my experience so far none of the popular opinions work for me, so I'd like some input.

This particular duo is just for solo content, and I don't really intend to kill named, heroic groups ect. (I have much better equiped duos for that purpose)

My feeling is this...I need to either add a healer or dps, the logic is to be able to keep my pet alive longer, or to kill the mobs faster.Of all the classes I prefer cleric (Templar) or wizard.

As far as healer goes, I've been using a fury, but with the leather armor, if he steals aggro, I'm done for as he cannot take a beating, not to mention the Temp buffs would work well for my guard pet. This buys me time to kill, and with a plate class, time to deal with a [Removed for Content] mob on my healer.

With the wiz, I can take down mobs much faster, and my heals should suffice for my pet. Evac and ports are also a selling point here.

One last thing I'd like to mention. This duo will be broke, as all my cash goes into other toons, so upgrades will come exclusively from quest items and harvested rares. With the content I plan on playing with I feel I shouldn't have much of a need for great gear, and only need to upgrade the important spells.

So of these 2 classes which do you think would work best?

On a side note, I've yet to try the shaman class, so any thoughts on those 2 would also be helpful.

for non-heroic solo content...  just the wiz, I'd think.  Templar wouldn't be needed for garbage mobs.  I'd also suggest a warlock, since the assumption is if you're fighting solo content, you're killing lots of mobs, fast.

it's the "bot group" mentality:  I've seen them running around with 2 wizards and 2 warlocks.  churn through tens of thousands of junk mobs with overwhelming dps.  not much finesse to it, but eh...  it would work.

I'm a Conjurer n00b, though, so take all that with a grain of salt.

I dual box a Pally and Conjy (DPS Speced).  There isn't much we haven't taken out though our progression.  Conjy is only a few months old and is lvl 70 with 96AA's.  It's a good combo because of the AOE damage a Cony (with Mage Pet) and Pally can put out.  Plus you have heals with the pally, so your down time is much less....  But if you "need" to have a healer, I'd go inquis or mystic.

I like Conj/Fury but realistically, ANYTHING with a Conjuror can and will own any named or reasonable mob in the game.

I'm partial to a Conjuror + Necromancer duo myself. But such a combination is pretty hard to 2-box.

Conjuror and Necro duo is fun, Conjuror and Defiler duo can kill anything pretty easy, wards are your best friend...  Why take damage when you can prevent it!!

Conjuror has mage pet, 1 blue aoe, 2 green aoes : Defiler has dog, 1 blue aoe, and 2 green aoes.

I like my Defiler though, Conjuror is my main and i've raided with both, occasionally 2 boxing in raids.

For 2 boxing in raids though 2 Summoners are a lot easier ><

I two box a mystic.   It's nice to have his hp/ac buffs and his debuffs.    I was growing a younger warden (lvl 47ish) for ports and such, but mystics are nice and rare on pvp so spell upgrades are far cheaper than the warden.   Sticking with my mystic I think.

Just an FYI...with the recent GU changes, if you max out STA-3 under the summoner AA's, you get a very nice pet taunt button that grants 100% chance to increase his hate position and it refreshes every 10 seconds.
