Okay, this may have been asked before, but if it has, I can't find a thread for it, and the newbie forums seem like a better place for this than tradeskill forums.

Is there any way to narrow the list of items to the specific ones for my chosen tradeskill?  (NOTE: I mean outside of running to the nearest forge, woodworking table, etc., like a way to narrow it down when I am out collecting materials.)

Thanks for any help

Yes. In the recipie window click the edit button. You can sort by several options including recipie book, skill used, method and so on. You can even save filters for future searches.

One method that comes to mind would be to open your tradeskill window (default: N, I think).  Then next to the search field should be an "Edit" button.  If you click on that there will be multiple filters you can choose from.  As an example, you can filter by level or by recipe book.

However, as you continue to trade in your profession, you'll get a better handle for what you really need.  On the other hand, there are many people who would recommend harvesting everything in sight.  Most will say it's just good manners.  However, it also seems to ensure that there is an even distribution of nodes in the zone.  On our server, it seems that foodstuff nodes are not in high demands and many people skip them as they harvest.  At the end of the day, it's not uncommon to find the zone populated with 75% food nodes.  (At least, it seems that way sometimes!)  If you plan on harvesting in an area for awhile, it's a good idea to grab everything and sell off (or trade) what you don't need.

Thanks for the helpful answers!  I must have overlooked that button due to my blissful ignorance .. (that and the fact that I have the attention span of a Ferritt on Meth ...).

As far as the harvesting goes, I tried the "Gather every node in sight that isn't in use" method and it got me into alot of problems with other players.  Now I live by the "Unless no one else is around, just gather what I need" routine.

I have to say this for EQ2 and the forums: People here are alot nicer and more helpful than they ever could have been in WoW.  I'm definetly glad I changed sides of the fence.

Ahhh, yeah, it depends who you run into on servers re: harvesting.  SMILEY  I've been talked to while gathering everything and gathering specific things.

Best of luck!
