Can someone confirm or deny if PVP will only be in an expansion?  I was kind of excited to hear about PVP coming, but definately not excited if we'll have to pay for it.  It's been said Dueling will be in a Live Update but that isn't the same thing as open PVP, that is if there is open PVP to begin with.

Here's a link to one of the Ask SOE interviews.  It doesn't really say much and i was wondering if SOE or someone else can clear it up.

Sassee: Can you tell us anything more about the different kids of PvP that will be offered?
Scott Hartsman: Before Desert of Flames launches, we plan on having PvP dueling out on the live servers. (It’s on Test currently.)

At the moment, we’re focused on general PvP balancing and Arena Champions.

Once Arena Champions are out there, we’ll be able to do some more talking about what we’ll be offering for PvP-ruleset servers after Desert of Flames.

Since these arenas will be in new town, and town will be in Expasion, then i suppose yes, if u want arenas, u have to buy Desert of Flames.
If u dont want to pay for addon, then enjoy simple dueling.

There is also closed arenas in QH and somewhere in FP too. Maybe they will be operational and u can PvP there, but i havent seen nothing anywhere about that.

If you want to use the arenas, then yes, you'll have to buy the expansion. Duels will be available to all, but there will not be any open PvP on any server.

>>> Do we have to pay to PVP? Other games have it free without an expansion.

If you want the arenas as already has been posted.

In other games you get content only through paying for expansions, here you get tons for free (of course there are expansions, too,  but they're not the only way new content enters the game).

Actually, in Ask SOE 36 it was stated that when Dueling comes on the live servers the town Arenas will be opened. There you will be able to duel with no death penality. This is seperate from the expansion. But there will NOT be open warfare, only consensual dueling..

And no you dont have to pay extra for that.

I don't think that Scott was talking about the city arenas, but the DoF arena. But it would be nice if you were right SMILEY.

The actual quote from Ask SOE #36 is:"For right now, we’re planning on going with penalty-free dueling in Arenas, but anywhere else, the standard death penalty will apply to the loser."I'm afraid nowhere does he say that town Arenas will be opened. Perhaps they will and perhaps they won't. He could also be referring to Arena Champions in the above quote; his previous answer talked about Arena Champions so that's more likely.

I believe MG even once stated, that City Arenas _will not_ be opened anytime soon.
