One of my favorites from SWG was the static NPC corpse Dowhatchalike.I came across a player called "SleepDizzalDa FuturisticSpaceNizal" one day on Tatooine, and I recently met Foshizzlenizzle in EQ2, wonder if they are related SMILEY

I love this kind of response. It's like a child screaming "He's doing it to!"...what are you 4? Essentially what your saying here is that you have nothing better to do then complain about these people and report them to SOE, effectivley impacting their good time for no tangable reason. I guess that's where we differ...your here complaining about peoples goofy names in a game and I'm here complaining about tosspots who are so uptight and retentive that they feel the need to be the name police. A sense of humor would do you people a world of good.

I saw (heard) someone named Supertank on AB server (RP preferred server of all places) and yes he did type IN ALL CAPS and SHOUTED ALL THE TIME!  SMILEY

It was so perfectly dreadful, I thought for sure it was someone playing a joke but he went on and on for an hour, it really was some 7 year old dewd.

(oh when the zone as a whole suggested about the caps lock thing he said IN MY GUILD WE HAVE BETTER THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT too freaking funny for words.

I won't petition a legalos or a gandolffff (yep, seen both), because at least they are fantasy names, although incredibly unoriginal. I will gladly take the time to petition some of the ones I've seen:

Imablackmario

Imablackpope

Hottiepants McHottie

Hooters

However, for those of you bothered by my petitions, don't worry, its been a week now and Hottie is still wandering around. In other words, the GMs won't really change most names so you people with these crappy names are safe from those of us that feel this is a fantasy game and that the naming policy should be enforced.

"Appropriate" meaning names that are not perverted or contain sexual content.  Even though Gandallphhh (or whatever)...is unoriginal... its still appropriate.   I agree with the message above that you should be aloud to name your character these unoriginal names BECAUSE you are paying $15/month.  It's not offending anyone so who cares.

Actually, if you go to the names section in the help menu, it does have restrictions to these type of names.  The first type of names are obscenities that will offend people.  The next rule disallows names that are based off real/well known fictional characters.  Gandallphhh would fall under this category.

Personally, I dont understand why someone would want a name that they are sharing with 50 other people on their server with 1 or 2 letter variations.

Everquest, like all other games, has a naming policy so they can deal with legitimately problematic names, not so they can micromanage every character's name choice. I'm all for enforcing the naming policy on racist/sexist/homophobic/vulgar names, but just because a name is funny doesn't make it bad. Even SOE sometimes uses silly names--look at "Sergeant Quackers," the NPC duck in Queynos Harbot that leads a flock of ducks around in formation. That is far more distracting then seeing a ratonga named "Squeaky."

Think of the naming policy like the spead limit--we need it to keep people from going 120 mph, but that doesn't mean that police should be dogmatic about it and write you a ticket if you go 66 in a 65 zone.

saw someone named "sxcum" this morning. Granted most times nowadays I don't bother petitioning since it never seems to actually do any good, I still tried it for this guy.

Is it just me though or when I put in /petition name it brings up the help menu?

Exactly, so it's ok for you to waste your time following a thread that annoys you and "police" the people who find names like "Ummmm Errr" and "Oldfart Longtime" a distraction in their game calling into question their motivations but it's not ok for others to express their frustration over inappropriate or distractive names on a public forum?Mr. Pot, may I introduce you to Mr. Kettle?Hypocrite.

I think the name Axemaker isnt all that bad, but I think it would make a better surname, something like Oh I dunno...Turthan Axemaker or something. If he is a smith anyway. If he is a priest it would be kinda moot heheI think the worst name Ive ever seen wasnt even on this game. It is on Ultima Online, the Chesapeake Shard. The name is Miss [Removed for Content].Musta thought long and hard (excuse the pun) on that one.

I dont think axemaster is all that bad either, its tricky to say what is good and what isnt ... for me theres kinda three sorts of names, real rp type players with names like angril, thorgar etc , people who have catchy names that dont really cause offense but dont wanna be rp , like smog, toxic , venom etc ... and ofc the total idiots with ucalllmeeeenuuuuuuby , killahxxx crap like that SMILEY

They each represent a diff grp of people who play, those who wanna rp , those who just wanna play and the [Removed for Content] roxxor my boxxor i wanna be leet people SMILEY .

I dont have a problem with any really , cant we just all get on SMILEY

btw my names are zuton, awol , david and zeppelin . Does anyone find them a problem?

My rl mate does have an ugly troll called posh spice tho SMILEY SMILEY

nah, not petitioning much anymore. Besides thats not something I would petition anyways.

I'm just saying I thought I saw you running around.

I really don't see the point in petitioning since it never does any good. I mean I still see Mattser Baiter running around.

OK, I didn't feel like searching through all the pages for any Drizzt references....but I would say that is one that annoys me...again, fine, do it, I'm not going to report you....but on Mistmoore I believe I have counted 10 different forms of our favorite little dark elf.

Bah.

Devil's advocate: "Human" is the name of a (non-human) character from Orson Scott Card's Speaker for the Dead. So who knows?

My main is "Vendoval" which is a name I came up with on my own (well I didn't make up the word, but it's not a name in it's native form). Unfortunately, when I created him, my brother in law (whose name would probably be /petitioned by some of you, though it's not too bad) pointed out its obvious correlation to vending. Doh!

Just rest assured, the name Vendoval has nothing to do with vending. But while I'm on the subject, someone please buy my pristine rawhide leather backpacks!

Vendoval Khamsin*, 18 Half Elf Predator
Sirocco Mistral*, 16 Erudite Brawler

Slightly off topic but speaking of SOE and names that may offend try reading all the tomb stones in the freeport grave yard "here lies Fig Pucker" is actualy on a tomb stone (I had to take a double take).

ok when you got names that little kids giggle over like p*nishead things like that,  they need to be booted. As long as its suitable, within common sense limits, (example: things that can come off bad with no common sense like iownyeazz lacks creativity for the roleplaying environment as previously said)  and is not exploitive, negatively sugguestive, or for some people offensive like c*cks*cker. i have no probs with used and popular names. although making friends with gandolph and accidently sending a tell to gandolphh might get annoying lol.:smileyhappy:

Well, when I created my alt my creativity was at an all time low... first name is sorc, and when I hit 20, last name is gonna be Erer (guess what class I am).Later it hit me that I should have called by zerk this, would have been a little more fun (not to mention confusing) SMILEY
