As the subject asks, how many Rangers wear leather? I for one have always worn chain but the look of leather imo would be more Rangery and also add a little diversity rather then seeing the same carbon copy armor on all scout classes. But of course with leather comes pain...not the kind that can be remedied with a little talcum powder...but we would obviously take alot more damage.Thoughts?

I always wear chain but occasionally I find a piece of Leather that is better maybe its Legendary or the next Teir that I will wear but It will always get replaced first with an equal piece of Chain.  But that is me- some rangers swear by leather and wear nothing else.

In T5, I wore legendary leather from head to toe and it worked great.  T6, I switched to chain (mobs just hit too hard for leather).  In T7 all my armor is situational, My bags are half full of different armor types.  My base armor is high mitigation chain for soloing and duoing with my wife's templar.  For grouping, I still like the chain but will sacrifice some mitigation for an STR boost (I tend to steal aggro from time to time).  For raids, I switch to gear with high STR.  I also look for STR and INT combos to maximize the DPS.

i wear armour for stats, not mitigation, because i didnt make my ranger to take hits.. he currently wears two pieces of leather, and im trying to get my hands on a third ( awakened bloodscale bracers) but they seem to be few and far between.. but when im soloing im kitting, and i dont often take hits then and in other groups, i dont think a couple hundred more  mitigation will make it a life or death deal, or i could change a couple pieces of jewelery and have around 2900 mit so basically wear leather if you want, because we can wear chain, doesnt mean we need to [Removed for Content] our stats because of it, we have an ability like no other scout to kite and avoid aoe's (even AR for brigs cant compare with never having to be in aoe range) so wear what you like... my current leather pieces are Xhorroz's leather tunic thingy, and of course zhardiz's leggings. i wonder why soe forgot to put in chain leggings....... -- i should also probably mention that self buffed in offencive stance i have about 450 str and agi, and over 300 sta, 50 something int and 90 or so wis, but i do have pretty decent gear, and like the dude in the post before me, have pretty decent dmg, but thats because i have a bunch of nice masters and whatnot, so yea, dont worry about wearing leather. Thanks for the replies thus far. Being im at level 58 I will look into my current tier crafted for stats and see what else may be available. I'm not sure at what point decent leather drops but I do know it will probably be somewhere I cant get to with my small casual level 22 guild.

I wear leather but thats just a lifestyle choice...     Oh wait, wrong forum!

Seriously like the others I wear the best stat gear regardless of its makeup.  I rarely solo so mitigation is not a factor as much for me.  I am wearing leather pants at the moment and would like to upgrade those soon.

I am wearing 3 pieces of leather - the arms off the abomination in hof, the str chestpiece from claymore, and the legs from nest.

Not only do I wear some Leather but I on occasion wear cloth.  I have an entire set of cloth armor with decent +INT for when group buffs surpass my max STR I mix and match to get my INT as high as possible.   The treasured cloth from SoS has about +20 INT per piece.  I think I kept some for when I grinded through SoS or bought some on broker for like 7gp per piece.  I found a pair of leggings (cant remember name) that has +23 INT and like +700 magic resists.

I only wear leather in the bedroom. In all other contexts, I wear a robe to avoid chafing "down there."

While my Brigand is most definately interested in his stats, mitigation is very important to him also.... On my Ranger it's very definately stats first and then mitigation so as a result I think his shoulders, gloves and boots are leather. He's not capping on STR yet so I simply wont wear an item of armour unless it has STR on it.

You can wear leather or chain for stats when grouping.  When you're soloing you need the mitigation.  In raiding, besides mitigation you also need resists or you'll get squished.  I actually just tend to keep my base str around 400-425 now, because most groups will get that buffed up to close to 500.  The additional sta and resists lets you survive quite a bit more in grouping than you would think.  Peeling is less of an issue if you can survive a bit to de-aggro, so it lets you go harder.  (Many groups don't have good MTs or de-aggro skills)

I end up in whatever gives me the best bang for my buck. I look for decent stats to offset any I'm lacking in, and good mitigation. Since I have quested, crafted and solo-drops at my disposal, sometimes I end up with a leather piece that is superior to the crafted chain I'm wearing in both mit and stats, so I go for it.

Not chain, but I wear Foreordained Leg-guards generally, with Zhardiz and their day-glo white in the bags for raid situations when the resist comes in handy. The Foreordained look quite good with the Wind-Worked Hauberk and the Cold Ring Sleeves and have a semi-chain look. I also keep some Xegonite leggings in there if I am wearing the Queen's Carapace - not that I am bothered by my looks of course. *blush*

In the 40's and 50's I wore leather for the stats.  While I survived tier 6 in leather, when I realized the stats were the same I was really wanting cobalt chain towards the end.  The reverse trick was played on me in tier 7, as I got a set of xegonite thinking the stats would be the same.  Once the dextrous armor came out, I got a set for the stats.  So, in short, I have two sets of armor.  I wear dextrous dragonhide when I'm in a group that I feel secure with the tank and I want the stats.  And in other situations, especially raids, I pull out the xegonite.  I do the same with helms.  I wear the Crown with my dragonhide, but when I switch for mitigation, I put the bird hat on.

If you want a really good party look for those retro 70s evenings, go for Zhardis Leggings, with the Queen's Carapace, Cold Ring Sleeves and Linked Chitin Boots... They need a "court jester" class for some of my raid gear! :smileywink:

Self confessed leather wearer here, at least for the most part.

I wore chain up to lv 30 with my AQ gear, then when I was shopping round for 30+ gear, i noticed that the stats on the leather crafted were actually better (for me and my playstyle) than the chain. Plus it looked faaaar sexier on my lady half-elf. So I bought the leather. Stuck with that ever since, even after all the stats on the armours were brought in line.

I detest soloing, so I'm not particularly worried about mitigation. I'll pick whatever has the best situational stats for what I'm doing - duoing with chap, grouping or raiding. General group / duo gear is Zhardiz's Leggings, Queens Carapace / Dragonhide Tunic and Dark Squall Manacles.

Not the greatest shot in the world, but you get the idea.

The only chain I really wear is my relic / nemesis gear...

At level 30, I'm wearing pristine imbued engraved tunic, shoulder pads, and leggings (for a nice overall brown-woodsy look), with a couple pieces of AQ gear thrown in, and lots of stat-modifying jewelry. My cap's still chain (stained crimson cap from RoV). I've noticed that it's hard to find good INT stuff that doesn't force you to sacrifice either STR or AGI (or both!). But I'm working on it. SMILEY Good mitigation on my engraved leather stuff (better than the chain I was wearing), and it makes me look different than 90 percent of the other chain-wearing classes out there.

*blinks*

Cele? Is that... you?? :smileysurprised:

It's kinda funny... I could probably go the leather route and do okay, b/c I never tank, rarely solo, and almost always group with tanks that I trust who can keep control of aggro. But for some reason, I always go for chain without really comparing the two.

Good to see ya, Cel - and I dig the sig, though your old one was always one of my favorites of any that I've seen.

Heh, I appreciate a well-played tank even more SMILEY That way, when I do move in close (just so I can feel like part of the action), I could fight naked and still survive. Hmm...not sure what my group-mates would do if they saw a sexy high elf ranger fighting in nothing but long red hair and a pair of Journeymans boots...now there's a screenshot waiting to happen!)

I currently wear leather, but my friend calls me a dork that should wear chain.  I guess if you plan on being tank/solo you should but Rangers are background fighters.  If we get hit with anything other than an area  spell the healer is outta mana, the tank is prolly dead, and you should evac as soon as possible...lol

ROFL TMI (Too Much Information)And on a non thread derailing note: I wear a mostly full set of xegonite chain, works great for soloing and groups. Raids sometimes I switch around a bit but it's mostly the xegonite chain. (Level 70. No, I'm not a hardcore raider by any means.) Hopefully, at least one of the new armor sets coming for EoF will be good or at least decent for Rangers...we shall see. :smileyhappy:EDIT: WOW holy necro post Batman is right. Sorry all I did not see that, I can't BELIEVE Kaeros would say something like the above anyway even in a necropost...errr, but I digress....

I solo alot, but group mostly and am forced into tanking FAR too often, I'm not a rouge for crap's sake, and I wear mostly leather.  That leather includes 3 bits of dexterous and those green shoulders, that match our class hood, from the ring event name in HoF (I suck with the name of stuff:smileysad:) it has 22 Str, 22 Agi, 12Int and other stats that I care less about. My avoidence and mit is on par with a brawler in their half stance, not including their temp buffs of course:smileywink:. I don't see much difference in chain vs. leather.  Less mit for leather, but more avoidance.  The trade off is prolly the best when comparing any armor types, I think.
