I went wood elf.  Followed the stereotype.  This was before I learned the importance of STR.  However, I've made up for that with a lot of jewelry...

In retrospect, I think my next toon (in the distant future - having too much fun now) will be a Kerran.  Probably go Kerran monk...

High Elf here too, pretty uncommon combination, plus I figured if I was going to spend 100's of hours looking at something, it might as well be appealing.

Eshikia - 60 Ranger - 60 Jeweler

Ogre's are the best rangers.

Wood Elves and other small cutesy races make the WORST rangers.

Eat it pretty boy bow wannabe's.

haha :smileyvery-happy:anyway, race doesnt matter (sadly so) since the few more STR etc. dont make that much a difference in the end.The looks and stuff like that made me choose that cute wood elf female ranger, dunno what ppl generally use as a criteria when choosing chars, but if i had to look on my player chars behind every time i play... i would NOT want it to be an ugly ogre butt SMILEYheh :smileywink:++Xan

Okay I admit it...I chose a Human. Yes, yes I know they're monumentally boring, etc. etc. But at the time I started EQ2 I was essentially new to MMORPGs (Morrowind veteran here...) and thought I should choose something from a roleplaying perspective that was really just an extension of my real self. So here I am, 55 levels later and still having fun, in spite of my unspectacular racial choice. :smileywink:

wood elf here.  and as for ideal races, my perspective is that the 5-10 point difference you see at character creation are pretty washed out by the time you're high level with all the stat gear you get etc.  so that 5 points is like 2.5% difference at 200 str or 200 agi or whatever.  Play what looks good to you - it all evens out in the end, though it may be a bit more challenging in the lower levels if you choose a "stat challenged" race for your ranger

A handsome Barbarian here. We Barbarians do get racial traits that I think are helpful, but I simply love the race regardless. Any alt I role is another Barbarian 95% of the time - though I am toying with the idea of making a DE Assasin after LU 19.Best advice (even though it's cliche), is to role a race you enjoy. Stat-wise - it isn't going to make a big difference....Though, we could use a few more dwarfs in the game (don't see nearly enough)! :smileywink:

Dwarf Ranger here. I don't really see much of a difference between races, at least when looking at parses.

I think all long bows should be the same size... so when a dwarf ranger holds one it is taller than he is. hehe

Halfling Ranger here...  The racial spec Distracting Hoax has saved my butt many times when I've hammered a high level mob too hard too soon and pulled aggro.  I'm not really fond of choosing any of the temp buffs/abilities with 30 minute timers for racial specs, but I finally chose Distracting Hoax and wish I would have chosen that many levels ago

My ranger is an Erudite and I get alot of comments on race choice. It's all about your style. See i RP a lil' and i got a great line i toss at grps from time to time...

... So I told my father, a wizard in Starcrest, "Pop... I wanna grow up to be a ranger some day and stalk these lands for the thrill of the hunt."

My father replied... " Eddy Mur'fee.... ! [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] are you some kinda comedian?!?!?!"

hehe, well, maybe darkie rangers aren't as common as i was fearing they would be.  i rolled one cuz i just love the dark elf look, evil and agile, and great potential for backstories.  made a de monk, too, and they both are awesome!
