![]() Hi all. I have a chance to play a 60 Ranger toon for a short time. However, I have only played casters before and I'm the ultimate newb at scouts. So I go find a green ^^ gnoll in SS, and ok... I know I need poisons up so I did that. Then I know my pwnage comes from bows, so I cast thorny trap and get him to run into it. Now I back off to bow range and fire ranged combat arts. But then he comes at me and I can't use the bow any more. I get a few melee arts off, but I get an add and I'm really not doing that well so I evac. Also at bow range I tried sniper shot but it won't cast... apparently I have to be "stealthed". OK, now you understand the depth of my newbness. So, first question, what are the techniques for keeping a ^^ at bow range when soloing? Second question, how do I use this sniper shot? do I have to inviz? Third question, can some kind ranger plz kinda list their general tactics in a solo fight like this? What arts you use, when, and so on? And fourth question, how do I deal with adds? Usually as a caster I just root them and back off. Thank u all so much. I know this is a nice forum and rangers are like kind to bunnies and all, so I'm hoping you'll all take pity on me

![]() You have several options for getting yourself into stealth mode. First is the use the HUNT skill. Just a simple invis. Another more combat oriented invis is Improved Surveil, this requires you to have a mob targeted because the its causes you to loose agro IF the mob is already bashing on some else, ie its being tanked by a friendly fighter type. If you use Improved Surviel on an idle mob, you will agro it. A third way to invis is during melee combat using the Dire Blade CA, which stops ur auto melee attacks and stealths you for a melee backstab Crippling BLade or Tangleflame. After anyone of these, and once u back out into Ranged Combat range, you will be able to use Sniper Shot or any other ranged stealth based CA. Thorny trap is a waste unless you use it on a group of mobs, or a big bad heroic or something. Follow that with a Improved Surviel (for stealth)and then a Natural Selection CA (aoe attack) and maybe a Storm of Arrows, most non heroics are gonna be dead or very close. You can often start off attacking a group with Natural Selection(make sure your stealthed with the Hunt skill), and then make them chase you over your previously set Thorny Trap, and as your running back hit them with the Storm of Arrows. If you're going after single mobs, the best to start with is Culling the Herd, a high damage and snare combo,(gotta hit em from the back or side), follow by a Debilitating Arow, Tripple Fire, Confusing Arrow, Amazing Shot, Snareing Shot and finnaly a Snipe for when you gotta melee him down through his last few hps. If its something really big you're gonna need to put a Thorny trap between the 2 of you before you get started. The idea is to keep him snared and you able to do ranged CA's. Keep in mind you can only do Storm of Arrows and Dehibilitating Arrow while your moving. It's a very hard life us Rangers live, but its rewarding too.

![]() Hi mate, Im currently a 47 Ranger (dinged last night, woot for me!) and i've been kiting a few high 30's/low 40's named mobs around Zek & Feerrott lately. I generally start with a sniper shot then leg shot to slow them down. I then start running back and use crippling arrow (only ranged CA that can be used while moving that i see) and firing off auto ranged attack. I always make sure I have a good DoT poison (best as kiting take awhile) and a nice slow/stun poison. Every now and again I run past them and use Perfect Snare (is that the name of the Splitpaw skill?) and stun so i can get a bit more distance up then fire off the flaming shot line and/or triple shot depending on the distance between me and the mob. I'll also use stealth and sniper shot again if i have enough distance on the mob to give me time to cast it. I can generally stay out of melee range and kite them down without taking a hit. Works pretty well. |

![]() Fighting a green ^^ or ^^^? Make sure poisons are up, use Archer's Frenzy to put yourself in offensive stance, use Hunt to stealth. Pull with Sniper's Shot if it's up, or any other bow attack. When mob is charging in, hit Stream of Arrows before he gets too close. Wait a few seconds and then loot mob's corpse.

Use Cheap Shot and your snaring arts (the button looks like a foot with a rope around it) to stun and slow enemies. That's teh best way to preserve bow range while soloing.

![]() Two things you need to check before fight.
Is there possible adds? then forget about the place you standing at cuz they will get you good, reposition yourself to a better place. How much coin do you want to waste? if its a mob that can pay for the poisons (visions and best dd poison you can get) then use that (visions will last you about 3 encounters on average). If its not worth wasting the coin for the poisons then pick a easier target like a non heroic mob.
Now that you decided on what you want to do ill give you info on how I do it.
On single encounters I start with my biggest hit then legshot then tripple and if mob still moving I backpeddle with debilitating arrow and if needed if mob to close I sprint my but outa there (yes I sprint cuz power aint a issue if you want the mob down or not without dying) when at enough range then I stream the last hp of the mob.
On encounters with several mobs I put thorny trap at a good distance then single shoot one of the mobs then turn attack of so they run over the trap and get rooted for 2 minutes. Ok now you got em rooted for exactly two minutes or untill you hit em. Then you go back to single encounter tactics above and make sure you got enough skills active to kill em all within the two min they rooted one by one.
Now as I said above this is impossible (for me atleast since I havent tested kiting since LU13) to do without the right poisons if they are strong heroic. And if add possible other than the ones in the encounter you probl end up evacing and if that down you end up dying.
Thats my advice, examine all lvl 47+ skills and it will make sense to you
(oh yea look in your knowledge book for a low lvl skill named "cheapshot" it will help you well and enough on non heroic encounters)

This pretty much covers it. If you find your still taking too much damage put up a stun poison and your good to go.

![]() not sure if you're aware of this, but try to use combos for poison. I always have the following applied:
The way I kill (I'm sure a lot of other rangers do the same):
At this point most solo yellow or really low OJ mobs are dead...but
