Does anyone have a method in combat to be able to use the stealth back stabs? I hate it that at my level we have a very limited number of attacks for meleing and our backstab requires being stealthed. I find my damage output on multiple mobs to get me killed a lot since I don't have any attacks that hit multiple mobs,  like other classes do. I just turned level 40 and maybe I will get some good things later but right now if I get an add I have to run most times or die.

I solo and it's hard enough getting behind the mob but being invis while in mele combat. I can't seem to do it or havn't figured out how. I know we have great initial attacks with our bows but if I can't get them off because I'm attacked from agro it's a lot tougher than on my other scout that is not a ranger.

Cheap Shot! How did you get to level 40 without. Cheap shot will stun all non ^ mobs for the full duration and will stun all mobs with ^ until they take damage.

Also you have spring or pounce which is an AoE attack. Attacking multiple mobs can be tricky but you can usually kill one before it even reaches you. Cheap shot the other when it gets to you, pull back and unleash triple fire or whatever big hit. At that time, 2nd mob is almost done. Melee it down, Turned to the third with a refreshed cheap shot and repeat.

Question: How did you get to 40 without knowing your class?

method is...
-Cheap Shot!
-Shadow as your moving around them
-Big backstab(forgot name)
-backstab strike that puts you in stealth(forgot name)
-backstab hit thats weaker but has a a fast refresh(forgot name)

You can pull off all four CAs easily with practice against non heroics or ^.

I agree... cheap shot is key.  Use High DD poisons.... Legendary if you can afford it.  Try to burn them down before they get to you.  With ^ heroics and multiple mob encounters, it is ESSENTIAL to get them into the yellow or orange before they get to you.  You can't afford to melee with a heroic or multiple mobs beating on you.

This is a good strategy that might take some practice to get used to.  My suggestion is to take on some low greens and practice.  Once you get those down to where you can do those fairly easily, move up to harder ones.  Don't be afraid to get on the Butcherblock.Worldranger channel and bounce some ideas off your fellow rangers.  I would suggest to pull aside some fellow rangers and have them show you what works for them.  You build relationships and you get better.  At just shy of 54, I still do this.  Sometimes it's to help those lower lvl than I... other times it is from those that are higher.  You are part of an awesome community, so don't be afraid to reach out for some help.

Other food for thought... check your weapons and armor.  I am not saying you need to be decked out in full fabled, but you need to have some good stuff to protect you.  At 40, you need to have a imbued cedar longbow.... then maybe some HQ weapons or imbued legendary weapons.   Check out the chestplates and legs.  If you can't afford the ebon, at the least you can get the imbued fulginate... a live saver on many parts.  Now is the time you really need to start investing in your character... it will pay off in the long run.    If you are on Grobb, don't hesitate to send me a tell... I will be happy to help you out.

Question: How did you get to 40 without knowing your class?

Please refrain from using these kind of comments.  All due respect, those types of comments are completely unnecessary and unwelcomed here.  This forum and community thrives on helping each other get better.  The combat change brought many new challenges... we as rangers will overcome them... some have done so faster.  Lots of good changes, but changes nonetheless.  Help those brothers and sisters around you instead of put them down.

I think you guys misunderstood the question.  Cheap Shot does no good in helping you get stealthed if you have multiple mobs on you...as in the case of an add.

yeah, that seems to be the main concern of OP. if it's that: no way to go in stealth when you have multiple foes on you. just forget the whole cheap shot/stealth/backstab thing in that situation.

when you have multiple enemys, it is cheap shot/move out/arrow CA. bentgates short summary of what to do is basically how to finish off grps. finish first one off quick, then do the cheap shot/bow CA game with the others. and watch out for those with ^. don't get too many of them on you; because, as said, on those the stun can break at damage done.

I think he was ironic thats all

Thanks Tev, I was being ironic. If you look at all my past posts I am nothing but helpful.  Jay, thanks for also understanding my misplaced sarcasm.:smileyvery-happy:

To the OP who scolded me - there is no need for that. I have posted many more times than you in this forum and am always fair and helpful. My remarks were sarcastic but as you can see I also helped him in the thread.

Nuff said!

I find my damage output on multiple mobs to get me killed a lot since I don't have any attacks that hit multiple mobs, like other classes do. Well we have the spring line, most of think its useless, but its pretty nice AoE as a opening skill... in later lvls its also counted as a ranged attack = procs offensive stance. But, in thi midst of soloing a group, its useless, since the casting time is so high, the stealth gets broker before you can use it. I just turned level 40 and maybe I will get some good things later but right now if I get an add I have to run most times or die.

So, if youre being attacked by multiple mobs, theres no way to use a AoE stealthed attack (that i know of). However cheapshot is your best friend (like posted many times already here) and you could use that also to back few steps and launch triple arrow (mob dead or ~dead). Many times cheapshot+lunging thrust (stealths ya) + non-positional stealth (flame something) can be done even if you have mobs hitting you. They are fast enough to be executed on teh fly SMILEY

I wouldn't say no way. As long as I'm not mobed by like 5 enemies I can usually get a stealth move off about 50/50 mostly because if you get the stealthed attack in the queue before you stealth it leaves a very narrow window for the mob to break your stealth before the attack goes off. I've though about macroing them but find that I can click them just as quickly.

That said... you can cheap shot/move out/arrow CA 100% of the time in this situation so the only time I would even try stealth moves with multipul mobs is if all my ranged CAs are on their reuse timer.

it does work if your timing is right. stealth only breaks if something hits you. i use this tactic when i solo 4-5 pulls of underbrush feinds. 1st mob is dead before it hits me from arrow attacks. second mob is targeted and use crippling arrow on it cause you can move while casting it. melee that one down with all your frontal attacks. 3rd mob you need to time cheapshot if there is 4 or more mobs. use it just after you are hit by the remaining mobs. then use invis attacks. if you time it right it can be done. i succeed about 80% of the time. playing a ranger is 50% timing and 50% finese. we are no longer a DPS class we are a timing/finese class SMILEY

What game are you playing, anyway? I apologize in advance, because this post is going to be out of character for me. I know how to use Cheap Shot just fine.  I don't need any instructions.  If you achieve 80% success rate getting stealthed while fighting a group of mobs, then congratulations.  But you are using a single scenario as an example and making it seem as if you can apply it to every scenario.  Yes it works if you can kill one or two of them before they get to you.  But if you get an add of a 4 or 5 mob encounter, all beating on you at the same time, getting stealthed is nearly impossible.  Sure, after you get a couple of them down, it becomes doable.  But the difficulty lies in getting those first couple down.  After that anything is manageable because we are generally creative enough to come up with a strategy to win.  But just how much health did we lose while all 5 were beating on us. Three mobs is much easier than 5, but if you've only got a couple hundred HP's left, your chances aren't very good.  I know I've rambled a bit, but you should get my point. I think the OP had add situations in mind.  Not planned pulls.  The two situations are very different, and the strategies for one will not always necessarily work for the other.

donno why bother with stealth anyway when more then one mob beats on you? i just cheap shot, back off and do any bow skill which is up. or cheap shot, walk past, back shot. works 100%, if i don't get stunned or stifled (where anything else won't work too).
so why bother with some stealth stunt? waste of 1 round of cheap shot if it won't work. may work well if only 2, 3 will be more tricky and failure is just gonna go exponentiell with more mobs beating on you.

'we are no longer a DPS class'. hmmm. i wonder how i do all the damage then... :smileytongue:
