Okay well from the get go I have always been planning on being an assasin. Well, I didnt do any research on it and hit lvl 19 yesterday. I decided to go and do my class quest. Well I noticed it said ranger class quest on it and started doing some research. I found out that because I am lvl 19 I cannot do the betrayal quest, and to become a assasin you have to be a freeport citizen. This really came to a suprise to me. I should ahve done research I guess but to a casual gamer that just wants to play they are kinda forced into being something. But anyways I will be a ranger and hopefully I will like it.

I've never really considered reading the manual as research out of the ordinary. Even for a casual gamer.

You actually read game manuals?

When was the last time an MMOG manual had any useful information other than the key command chart?

I dont blame the guy for missing it.  The whole point of a MMOG is to immerse yourself in the world, reading a game manual is ... cheatin' heh.

Computer gamer for almost 20 years (when was karatika and Ultima 2?)...probably actually read 5 or 6 manuals...and that was for flight sims  (Ohh Janes flight sims I miss ya dearly...same for the old Dynamix titles).  For the record I probably have boughten one game every month since ...1991 (first x86 pc).  Amiga500, and Apple(s) before that...not many actually "buying" games in those days...although  I do recall buying a LOTR strategy game (Amiga) cant remember the name though.

Id wager that most folks that have been playing a while dont regularily read their game manuals, finding features has always been a part of the "game".

I too have found myself in this predicament.

From the get-go I have planned on being an assassin. I like the class, the damage, the feeling, etc... But now, I'm a SLIVER into 18 (maybe 1%). Well, I play with a group of RL friends who mentioned I need to start my subclass quest. So I go to the guy and get a ranger quest. Doing research similar to you I noticed how the Assassin class was left out of the Qeynos sub-class quest list.

I'm so infuriated right now. Here are a few ways to fix it:

1) Notify players IN-GAME well in advance that they will lose certain class options if they level or something.
2) Raise the Betrayal quest "boundary level" to 20, that way a player will make a very large decision at level 20: Good or Evil.
3) Make Assassin a Qeynos class as well. I mean, Antonia HAS to have her own group of assassins.

Anyway, I may have to start a new character because, honestly, I was not planning on doing ranged combat at all.

I never read any manuals.  If I want to read, I'll read the entire DragonLance series again.  If I want to play an interactive, MMORPG, I'll jump right in and have fun.  That's what in-game tutorials are for, although I usually skip through them too.

Anyway, level 19 is not too high to start over.  Here http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=quest&message.id=36250 is a guide to do the betrayal quest, it's not that difficult.  Trust me, you may feel like you have invested too much time to just start over, but you may end up level 30 wishing you started over before you put some REAL time in.  The general rule of thumb in games like this is that it usually takes an equal amount of time to get from 1 to 20 as it does to get from 20 to 30, then again 30 to 40, and again 40 to 45, and even more time 45 to 50.  Don't force yourself to play a class you may not enjoy.

Having said that, if you aren't all that picky as to what you play, I think Ranger is going to be just as fun as Assassin.  I'm level 19 too, but I've finished my class quest and just waiting to level up now.

I'm sorry to say this but you have no one to blame but yourself. I'm a casual gamer and I read the manual and yes it does actaully contain useful information about classes and so forth, including the fact that to be an Assasian you have to be a freeport citizen.

Yeah, and theres nothing quite like the feeling of having read said manual, decided exactly what race/class/etc you want to be, and then get in game, and find out that a Barbarian priest only starts with 23WIS, not 25, cause they tweaked it after printing the manual.SMILEY Oh well, at least I tried to be prepared. The most current info I am lead to believe is the text file copy of the manual that is in your game folder, it gets updated from the server I believe.

well betrayal quests are very involved. someone i know from freeport started the betrayal quest at 15, and at 17 was still killing nms. 500 gnolls is a ridiculous amount of xp if you dont kill the greyed ones.

This is not a rant at the original poster, who actually took responsibility for the mistake cause by not reading the manual. As for some of the rest of you, get over it.  I cannot believe people are actually [FaarNerfed!]ing about not being informed about something when its IN THE MANUAL.  You could practically get through that thing while the dics are loading.  I guess people will whine about pretty much anything.   Anyone who comes here to gripe about something that they missed because they just blew off reading the instructions that come with the game is wasting my time an everyone elses.

To the OP - hope you enjoy ranger.  If you don't, as someone said its not to late to reroll.   But rather than doing that, start an alt in Freeport.  That way you get to see both cities.  They are very different and each is cool in its own way.

Dude. Your only lvl 20 and you dont want to be a ranger...Easy fix here delete/remake. At lvl 20 youve got less than a days play time invested. Remake now so their is no reaso to whine later.

While I agree with the last poster, I'll try and be more tactful.   if you really wanted to be an assasin, I'd reroll, or else you'll look at those inflated high melee attacks they get and think the grass is greener on the other side of the street.  it's not too late, at level 30+ you might be wishing you rerolled and at that point you may have a month or more invested in your toon.

It's a great class, thats fun to play, not like old EQ1, where we we're just there to help keep the dust off a Clerics Rezz button, till you we're 60+ with 30 AA invested.  Its legitimate if not substantial  DPS from the start, but not alot of utility/buffs etc........

Are you refering to a long day of gaming, or 24hrs online time? Took me almost 2 months to get lvl 20, and I found that to be a pretty hefty investment of my time into one toon, even if the actual hours played were probably in the 48hr range.....
