Ok so I made a dirge because I tested one out on test and he was SWEET! I have a lot of alts - bru/pal/nec/con/swash/warden. Now I know that there really isn't that many dirges on my server - oasis - but how many dirges are there on all the servers? I look at other class fourms and they are posting up and down, seems like a new post ever half hour. But dirges have a new post or two a day!Where are you guys?

Well, new posts too... there are only three other forums with less posts than ours, and one of em's our Troubador siblings.

(The other two are defilers and inquisitors.  Even coercers have more than we do!)

Now, why didn't someone explain it to the poor dear?

There aren't many of us because we're the intellectual and artistic elite.  Being a dirge takes effort, study, style and wit, you don't just whomp away, not and be successful you don't.  And we're underappreciated as well; you don't see a message saying:

"Whysprr did 8,876 points of damage with a Nuclear F#m9 chord!  Whysprr has killed the Rampaging Death Shrew!"

No, you don't.

We make the monsters look bad, and everyone else look good, then we stand there humming and gazing into the air pointedly as the group congratulates the ranger on their fabulous output.

It's kind of like a bad bar gig; you've got to have the chops and the repertoire, and you still wind up smelling of beer and stale cigarette smoke.  And, with the same prospect of getting dates.  But, at the end of the day, a few people out there appreciate what you did.

Best,

Whysprr
...who hasn't actually had a bar gig of any sort in RL, but wishes she could
...and who wonders if the thread shouldn't be titled 'Where Have All the Dirges Gone?'

And if you look at those posts, most are people complaining about one thing or another and just about everything else. Although I can't speak for everyone, us Dirges are quite happy with what we can do and what we bring to groups. So we don't have much to complain about on the boards, except for maybe our new class hats :smileyindifferent:.

I think if you remove most of those "OMG THEY NERFED US" and "Why can't my templar do 10k dps on raids" posts from those forums, their posts would be pretty spread out too. Plus, not too many of us Dirges playing anyway, compared to some of the other classes with busier forums.

Yeah I think Vidara hit it dead on.  A combo of not a large number of players that choose dirge and having a class that is actually pretty well balanced.  So just not many of us and not that much to complain about =)

:smileyvery-happy:indeed dirges/bards

are a special kind,

we choose to be something beside the normal Fighter/priest/ranger  parts

Some of us are geniuses some are artists and some are plain crazy :smileyvery-happy:

But as we chose that way most uf us knew we are different..creepy..wierdos:womanvery-happy:

and most of us are heavy drinkers *cheers*

We also in general are more productive in our discussion threads.  Several of the other forums degenerate into is not/is too threads.

/wave - welcome to the addictiveness that is Dirgedom.

Prepare to abandon all other chars once the lure of the song seeps into your bones and takes control.

Not sure why we don't post as much - apart from the reasons already put forward - we're happier?  we're busier fighting off groupies (of the cute boy ratonga variety)?

I hope you continue to enjoy your Dirge - a friend told me the other day he thought they were an extremely complex class to play (and he plays a Coercer!) *puffs out chest proudly*.  Complex perhaps but very, very, rewarding - I'm never bored with Rush be it soloing, duo'ing or grouping there's always something for me to do.

Personally I don't bother posting because I get annoyed with all the whining (yes, we have whiners here too). A good example is the whine thread about the latest changes. We dirges have a perma-spot in MT raid groups and we addtons of flavour and highly useful skills to ergular groups. It's a fun class and a unique class......yet even such ridiculously minor nerfs make a bunch of people throw fits. *rolls eyes* The latest changes are irrelevant unless you want to solo 90% ofthe time and if you do I wouldn't really recommend playing an online multiplayer game. Ya know, Ive been saying I dont want to twist, but I changed my mind. My tank yells at me for getting within melee range. So, yah, gimme a something to twist just so I can do more on ranged fights than hit 3 buttons every minute. I like my class, I dont want to play another class, but thats boring.

Peeps, there's tonnes to do on raids to keep yourself amused:

1. Map Death Bearer and POS to numbered hotbars. Repeatedly cancel and recast them while spamming various emotes (I use the "Heal me!", OOP and laughing emotes). With practice, you can loop some pretty funkadoobiest jams, yo.

2. Get tankly on everyone and continually interrupt the pull at the last second by spamming raid with "Wait a minute everyone. My AGI looks a bit low. Do I have everyone's buffs?" The kids love that.

3. Map all of your tunics and legs to hotbars and run around randomly clicking combos. You need to take the time to make an "I am Dianna Ross!" macro, or it'll be wasted. Learn from my mistakes.

4. Refuse to Rez because you can't get directly behind your target.

5. Hate + Shamans = fun for the whole family, but it's more fun to move it around while the bongos are refreshing.

6. Wait until peeps are close to any edge involving timed jumping and then cast selos. The floating disc is almost as good as the Hidden Refuge dropoff imo.

There's more, but I don't want to miss hearing the story of Quinn for the 15th time in a row.

Love,etc

Lol, I suppose you could have easily answered "a lot of people have more sense". Depends on your point of view, I suppose.

If the old Scout's Sanctuary were still around you would have seen I was once in the 'yay dirge' camp but have drifted quite a ways towards indifference.  I am happy some people are still so happy though. In my case, its kinda sad one of the reasons I haven't quit is because they make you go through 10 pages of exit questionaire if you cancell your credit card autobill. I am just not looking forward to that for three accounts.

hahaha!  Five stars. There really aren't very many of us.  I think on Permafrost there are maybe 40 or so level 70 dirges.

Where are we?

Well!  We are furiously composing songs!

How can we possibly post on boards when we have to inspire the assassins, swashbucklers, brigands and rangers into a bloody fury!!

or

We have compose a wee sonnet to stir up the seething rage lying dormant in a high elf Paladin named Twynky.

We must COMPOSE! More rage! More fury! More angst!

If the mobs don't die by melee, we'll make them wish they did.  It is enough to make my violets stand on end and turn magenta!!

Well, I am off to write yet another blood curdling jig for my  Butcherblock brethren,

Mayia the Mad...

People who play Dirges don’t complain because we have one of the best playing classes in the game. We are more balanced that almost every other class, and when there does come a change we sit back strum our instruments and roll with the changes because we all know life’s a song and as long as we continue to sing everything will come out right.

Welcome to the finesse class. Being a Dirge means finesse and intelligent play. We are good at solo but we are better in groups.. Most groups will always be happy to add a Dirge because of what we can bring. We bring speed, we bring buffs, we bring debuffs, and we bring finesse to every group. Sure we aren’t the hack and slash class that most like to be but don’t let anyone tell you that we can’t do our fair share of damage when we need to because we can..

The Dirge is the support class in game, the Dirge is the background class that is always doing its job silently and unnoticed. We are not the glory hounds that songs get sung about; we are the ones who sing about the heroics of the warrior who killed the dragon. We are the ones who tell the tales that entertain the masses. In the end the Dirge equals finesse.
