Isnt the break on dmg enough of a drawback on charm rather than having such a short duration too.  I would have much more fun soloing down here in my twenties if i could actually use charm for more.  As it is breaking up a grp is the only use i see just too hard too keep recharming something.  I guess i just dont see where itd be overpowering with the other limits on it.

While I agree with you in that I often wish charm would last longer I could see the potential for serious balance issues if it is changed too much.  The other day I had my baby Troub on Venekor in Nek, charming bears to help me kill other bears. It was easy to hold aggro, and with a bear as a damage add I was tearning through them faster than my assassin did when he was that level. So while I agree with you on an emotional level I can see where it might make us situationally overpowered.

The charms become longer in duration as you level.

Yes it may be strong but only for solo mobs really which is where my troub needs serious help at low lvls, i felt it wouldn't really affect grps and raids and whatnot and doing little old solo mobs doesnt matter so much.

It's the only way to do it until you hit 50 and get mezz.

The encounter interrupt (Bellow line) also makes use of Subjugation. Spam it constantly (it doesn't even cost power) when it becomes available. Off the top of my head, that's around 30.

My issue with charm is only that it breaks randomly. I tested this also. 3/5 times, charming a ^ straight con, it broke early without the mob taking damage.

What good is charm to me if I cant depend on it KEEP the mob controlled for a time frame anything more than random at this point.

Get a better version of the charm. Charm is how you solo stuff that would normally kill you.  You can solo anything charmable given enough time.  Start attacking, and cast charm when you get low on health.  You'll leave combat and regen hp and pow a lot faster than playing both regen songs during mez.  Break the charm, and the mob returns to the health you had it at before the charm. Rinse and repeat.

i found that single down arrows will almost die before the charm breaks, even and up definitely tend to break more. was there possibly an AOE going off that might have broken the charm? i charm pets all the time to protect me when harvesting and it has never broken unless  i was in combat

If you fight monsters with AE attacks, DoTs, or damage shields, those may break charm every time your pet takes damage. AE DoTs and damage shields are the worst for that. Note what class the monsters are that you're fighting. You can preview that before a fight by clicking a monster and mousing over their buffs.

What rank of charm are you using? I haven't had any problems with charm breaking early without damage for Adept III charms. Also, some monsters have better mental resistances than others, so the ^ even con you chose might not make for a good pet but another ^ even con may be just fine. One more tip: don't sing your arcane resistance song while charming. Your pet gets the "benefit" of that buff while charmed, which gives it a better chance to make the resistance check to break charm.

Just for tips.

Subjugation is super important for charming, will make a massive difference. To make charm last longer get it maxed, we also have a spellcasting increase line that helps with this

A spell you can get at 35 that debuffs all resists is a good choice (Z-something) but you HAVE to buy it, you don't get it automatically...

Other choice is bellow which as someone said before, is power-free. You get this song at 40.

Charm quality helps much as well.

I am a 70 Coercer who loves charm who also has a now 45 Troub.  I almost always run around with 1 conc slot open just in case I want to charm.  I solo alot so sometimes being able to get mobs to help me keeps me alive and lets me do things I maybe wouldn't be able to solo.  Anytime I get an add and feel like I can fight it through...charm the add.  Not only does it reduce the amount of incoming DPS hurting you...it gives YOU a boost and you can beat the one down faster, then free the pet and kill it off for the insulence of interrupting your first fight. See 2 or more mobs there that are linked, pull with charm, that way you don't have to suffer beats as you try charm one.  Again...reduces the incoming damage and then I assist my pet so that we both beat on the same mob of the group and therefore kill the mobs faster together.  All other mobs dead, free your pet and kill.  Two things I do and I'm pretty happy with...I only keep the pet a short time...through one fight really.  And I try to make sure that the pet isn't taking damage as that gives a chance to break.  I want to keep control of the pet, so I am in control when it breaks...which is when I free it cause I'm ready to kill it.  It's the random chance to break that will get you killed that you try to avoid.  This applys to Coercers too which is why I do it all the time.
