I am currently leaning towards Troubador; luckily I do not have to make my final choice until level 20 :smileyvery-happy:

On the troubador path myself.

I always viewed my bard as the one that makes a group perform at it's best, so it's an easy choice for me.

I find more similarities between the Archetypes/class/sub-class sets in EQ2 when compared to the EQ Online Adventures for PS2.  More similar in fact than they seem to be with EQ1.  My wife and I have played both of those games to the point of making our ears bleed, with lots of focus on bards.  So for us it's an interesting thing to see all three sets.

In Brief...  in EQOA, you started off as a class, so say bard.  You leveld up and you earned alternate points, similar to AA points in EQ1.  You could spend those on various abilities that upped stats, gave certain abilities, etc.  When you collected the right sets of those abilities, you can then use points to buy your final or prestiege class such as Minstrel or Bravo (their versions of Troubador and Dirge), with one focusing on general buffs and power regen and one focusing on combat specific buffs.  There were quest choices you made at 10, 20, 30, 40 that defiend your bard along the power or combat path.  Made for extra flavor in our opinion.

The "EQ Evolution of the Bard" would be a study worth reading heh.  We kind of view bards as the only truly unique class in EQ1, since it followed it's own rules and method of how magic worked.  It's a little dissappointing to lose the uniqueness of how bardic magic works in EQ2 but getting away from wrist-crunching twisting was a necessary thing.

Like many of you, I'm not quite sure what it all entails, but it sounds fun. I never played EQ1, I'm really liking EQ2.

The main differences between troubador and dirges are minor.

Dirges have a non-combat rez, use disease damage and their siphon spells restore their hps. Troubadors can mez, use mental damage and their siphon spells restore their power.

There are other differences but these are the big ones. Also Dirges at lvl 40 have illusion: Dark Elves while Troubadors have illusion: High Elf.

Troubadors get a health regen song and "I think" (but definitely not sure) Dirges dmg songs might be a bit more powerful.. making them more offensive.

It all comes down to personal preference.. I chose Troubador because of mez to be honest. Troubadors get their potent mez at level 50 though.. so keep that in mind. We get a charm type spell at like level 26 (didn't check exact level yet so don't quote me) which probably acts like a mez though.

Valcutio, Najena Server, Officer of Lost Souls, Legend.. in his own mind.

Hello, halfling troubadour here SMILEYGot level 20 yesterday and boy was i anxious to test out theentertainment spell called Rousing Celebration, which is supposedto play a song of celebration and make your group dance in joy.Ran all the way to North Qeynos to buy it and as soon as i got into a group the first thing i did was try to use it.....Boy was I disappointed SMILEY First thing i get is "No eligible target",ok, so I think maybe I should just target a group member, and so I do.I click the song, and not one single piece of music comes out, no guitar.Nothing! And to add to that I only made my target dance, not the whole group. Also, the only effect it gave was a firework coming from the ground undermy target that is now dancing.Hmm, I wanted a little string of guitar play or something like that.....Anyways I am so far enjoying it to be a troubadour and I am really lookingforward to getting the charm at level 21 and the evacuation skill at 25, will be a nice addition to group play.Okay back to playing Bria's Stirring Ballad to get music while i makesomeone dance.Take care fellow Troubadours!

Got 20 today, and I feel your pain SMILEY That song is pretty disappointing, nothing fancy about making someone dance when there's no music or anything at all...

Add me to the list. I will be a Troubador as soon as I can find this "meeting" in South Qeynos for the Troubador quest. I am hoping that server instability last night was the reason I was having so much trouble finding it.Yerkich19 (soon to be Troubador) BardPermafrost Server

You think that's bad? Dirges only get to make people cry. In beta it was horrible.. I would run over to someone (you didnt have to be grouped with them) and make them cry.

It was the most boring animation.. ever.

Well met fellow entertainers. SMILEY I'm a level 16 bard, leaning heavily towards Troubador at the moment. I'd love to know where some of you have gotten the lists of upcoming spells and abilities that the bard subclasses have .. it sure would make choosing which I want to be a heck of a lot easier. Every level for me is a surprise .. I have no idea what types of upgrades I'm getting. Lol! It's a bit hard to make a subclass decision without truly understanding the consequences, so any info you have would be greatly appreciated. I will in turn, promise to share pie and ale as a hearfelt "thank you"!
