I am currently a swashbuckler on the Kithitor server (lvl 33 atm). I have grouped with many assassins and have been impressed by their damage. However, all of their damage is clumped into 1 or 2 stealth hits. The couple I grouped with went in and out of stealth doing attacks for 300-500 damage. Include recharge on stealth and attack, it may be going off 3 times a battle. I on the other hand, as a rogue swashbuckler, put out more constant dps. Unless I use skills such as evade and the tank knows hot to taunt well, I almost have to not use skills to keep myself from getting stuck aggro.Lets put it this way. These numbers vary with debuffs...this is if the target isn't debuffedKidney Blow app 3 (100-150 dmg)(lowers AC of target) flank attack (10 sec)Unfriendly Reminder app 3 (120-170 dmg)(lowers AGI of target) backstab (30 sec)Sneak attack adept 3..worthless adept 3 (60-80 dmg) flank attack (10 sec)Flurry of Arms app 3 (50-80dmg x 3 = around 200 dmg)(30 sec)Snap of the Wrist app 3 (50-70 dmg x 2 = around 120 dmg)(20 sec)Nimble Cut adept 1 (80-120 dmg)(stuns target)(20 sec)Playful Swipe adept 1 (70-100 dmg)(knocks down certain targets)(10 sec)False Blade app 3 (80-100 dmg)(draws a little bit of aggro)(60 sec)Undercut app 3 (50-80 dmg)(snares target)(20 sec)Now, combine that in withFeigned Bravado app 3 (increases attack rate and draws some aggro - hardly enough to get target on you. It lasts 90 secs)Flashy Trick adept 1 (lowers enemy's defense and increases hate a little bit)(10 sec)Now, ALL of these skills are combined with my normal hits. Which, I have a faysteel epee and faysteel hatchet.....which is roughly 16-24 dmg a hit. Not to mention POISONS! Which go off a lot (every other hit and on skills). These hit around 100 per tick, depending on the poison I use (I use the short duration strong ones). Now, factor in that I can Mezz quite effective, put whole group into sneak, and taunt in case of emergency (aka healer getting terrible aggro and tank is out of power). Not to mentionSmirking Defense - increases parry skill and AGIWith that on I parry almost every hit for 30 seconds. Now, back to damage. Add all those skills up and the time it takes for them to regenerate. I could chain use every one of those skills if I need to. Combine that with home-made drink and my power hardly ever goes down if I do at least a full set of skills a fight (usually a ++ mob is dead by 1-2 rounds of my skills anyways). Now, say assassin does more damage then swashbuckler. If you want to set a record for highest damage, yep, you will always be the gimpy pirate character. But you wanna last a long battle? Well, rogue (brigand OR swashbuckler) is the way to go!Sorry I had to set you straight in your facts.

I just spent 15 minutes writing a post about how good brigands are with my lv 40 brigand and my friends lv 39 assassin but then decided it doean't matter and deleted everything. I decided I like the low brigand population so keep it a secret until people hit 50 and realize the truth.

overcompensating for a small dagger? It's a **mods 4 teh win!!1!** good thing their dps is slightly higher then brigs, you guys offer nothing else to a group. That's one of the many reasons I quit assasin and became a brigand.

Yeah keep thinking that! The 1 hit they have to do that much damage is on a long timer. I have hit with Ruse over 1100 and it is on a 1 minute timer. Also the combination of other attacks brigands get compare and many times even out damage the assassin set of other skills. Then we have the utility effects on many brigand attacks. Our AoE attack while nearly useless on damage can disrupt spells on anyone in the area. We have several knockdown and stun effects that reduce damage to the tank. We have attacks that lower enemy attack and defense abilities and melee resistances which DOES help alot.

He was comparing two subclasses from the same archetype, you sticking wizard in there is sort of irrational.

The fact that you don't even know Brigand is the equivalent of the Assassin makes me realize you don't have a clue of what you're talking about.
I've found that up until level 22 or so, Brigands actually do more damage than Assassins. After that, Assassins get more heavy backstabs, and get the edge. Need you say more? Yes, you do. How about "... but Brigands get stuns, and aggro abilities, and snares, which upweigh the lower damage, making the two classes perfectly balanced."

Some of us rolled Rogues to Brigand because that is the class we wish to play. I happen to roleplay mine and love it.

As long as I am enjoying myself in game, and can do well in combat I am happy. Currently I have zero issues at L19. To impress someone I don't know with burst damage is not why I log in daily, or pay to play this game.

Glad you like your Assassin.

I play a Gnome Brigand and atm im enjoying it very much, we are dps, not as much as assassins  but we are, we can help grp A LOT with grp invis, im sure many assassins would give some dgm to get this wonderful skill, debuffing mobs, stun, etc. we can hit well without stealth , and we have some nice high lv spells, cant wait to see my gnome morphing into an ogre SMILEY

again im pretty sure at high lvs when raiding we will be fundamental because smuggle (dungeons, deads, etc...)

Could not agree more. I play the Brigand for sheer pleasure of being a "brigand".

I am level 25 Brigand and lucked into a Master 1 copy of Ruse. No one of any class and roughly the same level does comparable damage.

Its not even in the same ballpark.

If 1100 is Gyans high mark with Ruse at level 43 - we'll I do substantially more than that with mine. I shudder to think what kind of damage he would do with a Master I Ruse at 43.

You'd have to show me some logs of assassin's damage output in a fight for me to believe they outdamage a brigand.

My 2 cp.

So, when you get master 1, you start getting a damage message?  Only thing I am seeing about my damage is that it appears above the mobs head.  I do not get any message in my chat.

You have to have 'Other Hits' turned on in your chat text. Since the damage isn't attributed to you, it shows up as being from another source.
