Hey guys,I'm looking for updated EQ2 info on two very specific gnomes from EQLive. If anyone has any information on how / if their lore continued in this game, it'd be much appreciated (you guys would be the ones who know best!)

![]() All I know is this. Gnomes do it better. Anyone who hates on us or disagrees is jealous no matter how intelligent or correct they are.

![]() No, I'm not jealous of you. I really do just flat out hate 3 feet tall people who have whiney voices and a case of Pahlsey so they can't turn thier necks. But fret not, because I hate Halflings just as much for the exact same reasons. Anyway. Meldrath is 2 people. One Meldrath was an evil necromancer who set up his own lair in the minotaur caves in Steamfont Mountains. The other Meldrath lives in the Plane of Innovation, making new contraptions and stuff for the good of everyone's prosperity.

![]() Fortress Mechanotus: Home to the mad Gnome, Meldrath, Fortress Mechanotus is a giant koo koo clock of gears, sprockets, geysers and steam driven machines. Meldrath uses his mechanized creations to reek his vengeance on his own people, who many years before rejected and exiled him. The Fortress is a dangerous place as Meldrath’s insanity knows no limits.]

I'd really like some expounding on the issues of both Meldrath & Tinmizer. They are both legendary gnomes with some interesting lore from EQLive, surely SOMETHING more substantial must exist in EQ2. Meldrath was exiled for practicing dark arts, tried to take over Ak'Anon and when he failed resided with the minotaurs... so,, now what? Gnomes from freeport freely practice dark arts, surely his lore and "pioneering" attitude towards them must hold some sway in their minds.Tinmizer was legendary for his malfunctioning contraptions...he was a wizard and travelled extensively but was sought after by the T.B.I. for introducing some of these contraptions on norrath. I believe he was also responsible for the original clockwork dragon (not the one in PoI, the one in Velious that spawned once for a GM event, Byg Ben or something like that, also the name of his wizard's familiar). Yet, his apparent descendent now resides in the Baubbleshire without contention and seems to know as little about tinkering as the rest of them (with the exception of some notable gnomes that still exist).So... what happened? Any clues? I've been unable to dig anything up so far of any substance.

![]() Meldrath and Tinmizer are legends and would never be forgotten among the gnomes. It is said in the secret circles of the tinkerer legends that Meldrath's curse lingered within the ink of the some of the most complex clockwork blueprints ever created. Although many of these blueprints were destroyed before any construction could begin, there is said to be a few still fluttering about the world of the tinkerers. Well, that is what I hear. Who knows if it's true? Let's hope not. I am sure any designs by Meldrath would lead to negative consequences for all. Then again, I hear that just looking at these blueprints can drive a tinkerer terminally insane. Tinmizer's contraptions were always some of the greatest and most innovative ever created. Most of the time, no one could figure out how to use them. Only Tinmizer knew how to use his devices properly. Some of his greatest creations have been stolen and you can sometimes, if you are extremely lucky, be found within the dark warehouses of hidden citadels being horded by villains that have lost too many minions in an attempt to use the device. Tinmizer vanished near the end of the Age of Turmoil, around the same time the T.B.I. learned about Big Bynn. (Is there really a T.B.I.?) Hasten Bootstrutter was the last person I heard of that was tracking the trail of him, but he's vanished as well.

![]() My Gnome, Meer, thinks that his ancestor with the same name caused the breaking. The original Meer came out (was kicked out) of the caves into the bright sun. No sooner had he gotten over the pain in his eyes (it had gotten darker,) it began to rain. Miserably alone, wet, and in pain, he trudged off to slay the rats his master required. But he also vowed to one day patch the hole in roof of the world. Later trips into the Karanas only cemented this desire. As his skills grew and he took up the art of tinkering, Meer began working on a secret project to patch the hole. He designed a huge clockwork machine to ascend to the roof and a patch for the hole he invisioned. He would spend hours encouraging younger gnomes to gather the materials for him or trying to encourage others of his kind to help him. (He spent a good deal of time paying 2 or 3 times the vendor price for loots off of rats and such, but only for low level characters.) When he finally put his plan into effect, he vanished from Norrath. To this day, his family believes that he broke something when he went to fix the hole.

![]() The Tinkerer's Bureau of Investigation. There used to be an NPC right at the zone-in to Ak'Anon who gave you a quest and told you that he's an agent for the Tinkerer's Bureau of Investigation (and showed proof to that claim.) I don't know if he's still there anymore, as I stopped playing EQlive when EQ2 came out.

![]() One of these dark citadels is, of course, Nektropos Castle. Apparently Lord Everling got his hands on two of Tinmizer's contraptions and they can be found in the room that has the hidden staircase behind the bookcase, that takes you down to the basement where Everling's workshop is found. |

![]() Good catch Didi :smileywink: I think those things are, in fact, called Tinmizer's ominous contraptions

Now that you mention it, I remember seeing those two the other day and its probably what got me thinking about old Tinmizer. Could someone expound on the whole tinkering business itself? I mean, it doesn't seem to have nearly as much prominence as it used to, where'd the knowledge go?And, Vhalen, tyvm for the reply

Seeing that those contraptions were not created by Tinmizer they may not be the creations that Vhalen is referring to. |

![]() So where is it that you believe that Tinmizer's Ominous Contraption wasn't made by Tinmizer? |

Tinkering was a Gnome only tradeskill. Only they could be tinkerers. And for the sake of balance in EQ2, they had to allow all races to become tinkerers or leave it out altogether. |

Not a where, but from a source. "Tinmizer has nothing to do with those metallic floating guardians. He may have managed to get a hold of one and tinker with it a bit. Where is that little guy nowadays? As for the guardians in the Trembling Lagoon, that location contains one of the most important structures on Norrath. That sentient structure just may be very important to the creators of those metallic guardians." ~ Vhalen Message Edited by Quasicroako on 04-14-2006 09:27 AM |

Even if we aren't called Tinkerers per say anymore, I'd like to propose that all gnomish Wizard/Jewelers be given the honorary title of Tinkerer. After all, it's called Mechanamagic isn't it? :smileyhappy: |

![]() As a tinker in EQ1 I'd have to hold out on that until wizard-work required solder joints and jewelry had at least 4 moving parts and a power supply.

![]() Hmm, I don't really have time to read all that has been posted here, and I am not sure if the Gnome Tinmizer actually made these devices or not. At any rate... ![]()

![]() The Tinmizer machines in Nektropos Castle are sort of a development error. They should never have been placed there, at least not in the iron guardian model we all see. Tinmizer did make a construct was said to be resting within a secret vault of the castle. It was called Tinmizer's Ominous Army. The bit of lore around this one clockwork army led to the iron guardian population you see in the zone. Does the contraption still exist in the castle, hidden for ages? The designs for such a thing do exist and were obtained by the T.B.I. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these clockworks still roam the hills of Steamfont.
