We all have our favorites, the ones that stand out and scream "Hey, thats me!"  What race appeals to you the most?  What made you pick your particular race?  Which race just stood out the most when you went through your own charactor creation process?    For me it was tough.  I like the Ogres, the Gnomes, and of course the Vah Shir (of course at present time thats a mute point) and lastly the Barbarians.  I love the Ogres for theyre brute force and presence.  I picture them as loyal hearty companions fiercly devoted to tradition and theyre comrades.  The Gnomes appealed to my sense of sneaky and or craftyness.  Small of stature yet intelligent, allways keeping to the shadows and constantly creating new and often times dangerous machines.  Barbarians stand out as vigiliant loaners, fiercly proud, and steeped in tribal traditions.   That and I really like the tatoos...    I have two gnome toons, one ogre and one barbarian, but I have to admit my Gnome Sk is my favorite.  Three feet tall and armored from head to toe, a killing machine of tiny proportions.  I get a thrill watching her take down giants, and critters far lager then her.    Those are my favorites, but things change and who knows what the future holds in store.  What are your favorites?  And why?

Human Monks.

Always have been one. Always will. They don't have any special abilities, but they don't have any weaknesses either.

And they're the ones who own the cities to whom all the rest of the races owe a debt of graditude that they'll never be able to pay off.

My two fave races would have to be Dark elfs and wood elfs.

Dark elfs appeal to me becuase of the sinister ways they present themselves and the dark aura about them.  They are highly intelligent and use this to play the dumber races as thier pawns.  Coolest thing I remember from eq1 was my dark elf necros faction.  All dark elfs feared the necromancers highly.  I killed orcs in crushbone for about 10 levels straight which hurt dark elf faction with the warrior guild, ie the guards of neriak.  But since i was a necromancer they always viewed me as amiable which i thought was neat how they played the lore into the game mechanics like that.  Only dark elf that would ever attack me in thier was the warrior guild master but he paid a price for his foolishness =)

Wood elfs are a favorite class of mine too.  They are the happy go luckly of all the elfs.  You leave them alone and they leave you alone.  They worshipped nature and had a keen sence of what was going on around them.  While peacful and indifferent to many political agendas, they still fought hard for what they believed in and struct mighty blows to those who thought them easy pray.  Wood elfs i see as the type who dont run no matter what the odds and i hold a respect for that in this race.

Classes i tend to like necromancer the most for its dealings with death and the power it holds.  In eq2 the necromancer isn't as awe inspiring as the eq1 necromancers so i tend to play them less here. In eq1 though, if you got a grip on the class by your 60's you could kill anything in the game solo. The mystery and lore behind the necro is also vague and i believe it just adds to the mystery that which is the necromancer. My monk is fun with the right utility/dps/tanking balance so its just a fun class to play.  I do not personally hold any love for monks or thier lore, its just fun to play em here.

Anyway thats my take and in both games so far i only play woodelfs and dark elfs.  So yeah i like these races and dark elf is always a necro =)

The Half-elves...

I consider them more of what I like to think your average American would be... like John Criton on Farscape... lol..

Scuffy looking,.. farmers, streetrats, peasents, rabble, theives, and drunkards.. pretty much is how I would see the Half-elves not as loved as Elves.. not as hated as humans...

So with a cocky sidways grin we make our own luck we take care of our own...

Actually it would be more appopriate to say they're not as Hated as elves, but not as Loved as Humans.

Half elves, most definitely.  I have played other races, but my 2 mains have both been beautiful, cocky, sultry, pierced to the max, full of attitude half elves.  They are the most beautiful of the races, both male and female.  The outcast angle appeals to me, because even if they're Qeynos goodies, they're usually rebellious and chaotic.

For me, it would have to be humans.  No matter what race I try I seem to be pulled back to them.  Maybe I see alot of me in them ... just an average run of the mill jane.

Classwise, always a healer.  Though I did enjoy a necro in my old EQ1 days.  I always hate when I run by in any other class and cannot help someone.

Dark elf Shadowknight, no doubt about it. been one for 4+ years. i am constantly drawn back to it becasue it is a wonderful mix of noble knight meets hateful bloodthirsty slaughterer. i can draw alot of parellels between my character and Darth Vader. if anyone really wantes to see how a dark paladin/shadowknights acts watch Darth Vader (in the original trilogy not ep 1,2 or 3)

Race Wise.

Halfling lol. I dunno really, I had a lvl 70 Halfling on Bristlebane Server in EQLive. I'd always make my characters around the server's name they were on (I had a 52 Woody Bard also)

Halflings just appeal to me.

Class wise, any scout. I played a Rogue, Bard, and Ranger in EQLive. But in EQ2, Bard's appeal to me more, Ranger's second, and i still am yet to try a rogue class.

Ratonga.  The intelligence and mode of speach.  The image of an agile, furry, killing machine (ratonga assassin here).  The ability to run around in a hyperactive manner, jumping off walls and such.

The way they are kind of like gnomes intelligence-wise, but are more likely to blow themselves up.

Basically i picture them as Skaven from Warhammer, they are so simliar...

Dark Elves, no question :smileywink:

A friend got me into EQLive where he had just made a Dark Elf alt. He told me to go Dark Elf so we could play together more easily. So the original choice was based solely off of that. However, once I started reading up on lore and learning the origins and attitudes of each race, I started loving the Dark Elves more and more. I love the way the race envelops Hate... they do it so non-chalantly, and without a sense of arrogance (like those nasty Erudites).

I have to be nice all day at work, and I've always loved being able to come home and be "evil" on a game. Being on a PvP server as a Dark Elf in a hardcore roleplaying dark-only guild gives you PLENTY of opportunities to be evil :smileyvery-happy: I was able to fully envelop myself in my character and surroundings, and had a blast doing it. No other race has been able to give me that sense of immersion. So go darkies :smileywink: Just wish I didn't have to live in Qeynos to be a DE Conjuror...

Tough question.. I guess I like wood elves the best. Comes from playing EQ1. I liked the idea of wood elves, and my first character was a wood elf druid. Kelethin was an awesome city, once I learned how to use the lifts anyway. They liked nature and animals, hey me too. They're pretty laid back and peaceful, unless someone gets them mad, me too. They're short, me too. :p Yeah.

I also really enjoy half elves. I didn't have any specific reason when I started playing one, aside from the fact I loved how armor looked on them (pre-luclin). However, my half elf bard became my main very quickly, and the race really grew on me. Even more so in EQ2. Plus, she can have the lip ring I've always wanted! :smileysad: (Fiance has a weird thing about piercings..)

My most played race in EQ1 was dark elf.. there was just something great about being evil. SMILEY I don't much like the way they look in EQ2 though, so I only have one dark elf..

I love too many classes to really name.. I guess my favorite is bard, just something appealing about telling stories, and singing songs. Being the entertainment to gain trust, and stealing a little food and coin when no one's looking, heh. They're a blast to roleplay, especially on EQ1 boats when everyone expected a story, and I had 50 of 'em.

Dark Elf. They are the closest thing to my favorite fantasy race, the drow. There's so much roleplaying depth to them if a person plays the Machiavellian inspired paranoid mindset that is completely evil, dark. and ammoral.

I have to say half elves too. I really like their looks, and to me the most interesting of the races so far. They can have little bits of the other races, since they can be half wood- dark- or high elf and half human. I like them because there have not been any other 'hybrid' races on Norrath as far as I know. I roleplay my main as being half dark elf, and so he has a darker personality. Kind of an anti-hero thing, which I like.

Dwarves are my favorite by far, especially a warrior...i have one atm, but hes only lvl 5.  I havent been able to get into a guard, and the beard choices for the soga model dwarf are lacking (i miss my 2 foot long beard choice from eq ^_^)after that, i really like Dark Elves and halflings, and eq gnomes.  i dont like the regular or soga gnome eq2 models much.

Barbs all the way! :smileyvery-happy:

I agree with op, that fierce, proud, loner feel is there. My affinity began in eq1 where they have an almost Celtic 'flavor' and coupled with chilly ol' Halas being their home well, as a Canadian of Irish decent I was hooked!

My mains of both 1 & 2 are shammy's. In 2 mainly because I was to high & to lazy to reroll by the time I figured out my mystic will never be as cool as my eq1 shaman....hahaha!

Tier'Dal. Or a halfling turned evil.. SMILEY My coercer halfling on the late Neriak server were lots and lots of fun to play. As was my zerker dwarf. But he usually freaked out the healers in the groups. (No downtime until everyone is out of power)

For me, it would be the Dark Elves and the Humans. The Dark Elves because of what they represent.  They set out to destroy everything that gets in their way.  They don't settle for mediocrity, they fight for #1.  And that's something that I like.  What's the point of doing anything if you only want to be second best?Humans because of their adversity and their adaptibilty.  When all of Norrath was in danger, all the other races sought refuge within the human cities.  That's gotta say something.  SMILEY

Wood Elves! Small yet slender. Happiness, song, trees, no worries...  it's a bit of "Hakuna Matata" over Wood Elves.

But I do miss Kelethin! Maybe we could move into another big forest and build our platforms high up in the trees. I really do not feel quite at home in the bustling stone city of Qeynos.

I haven't give up hope of the re-discovery of Faydwer and the Greater Faydark. *sigh*

Definately Wood Elves.  I picture Wood elves like the Lost boys from Peter Pan.  We never really grew up.  Class-wise, Druid.  I played a Druid for over 5 years in EQ1 and play a Fury in EQ2.  Woodelves are the ultimate Druid.  I know some like Halflings, but if you look at how they are written, Halflings like to lounge around, smoke, and eat.  Wood Elves are the Natural Hunters/Gatherers.  No disrespect to my Halfling brothers....I have met several that were [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] good Druids.....but I just think Wood Elves are a better fit for Druids.

It would definately be the troll's for me.  If for no other reason as i like playing as a hideous monster, with a mohawk made of nails. As for class, i would have to say Shadowknight, just because they are the raddest tank around, imo.

I think I can be the only one here but I am really into the Iksar. What strength they had to go from being slaves to the empire and enslavement of other races. To control an entire continent as a race. And of course, The Faceless, Cazic-Thule teaching the value of fear as a controller.  While yes my main in EQ was a hum mnk, I went Iksar here. When I came back to the game (followed friends to WoW.. /cringe) I was happy to see the new scale patterns in too. Iksar remain to me as the best looking race in EQ2 and  I really can't wait to see what there is of Cabalis and the rest of Kunark.
