Fix or nerf - whatever you want to call it, our DoTs have been ninja-changed sometime between April 5th and 6th. Overall DoT damage has been reduced significantly. The numbers below are for Adept 3 spells at level 50 on mobs which have not been cold or divine debuffed. Whirlwind: Pre-change ---------------------- [Mon Apr 04 04:41:18 2005] YOUR Whirlwind hits an enraged shade for 96 points of cold damage. [Mon Apr 04 04:41:22 2005] YOUR Whirlwind hits an enraged shade for 85 points of cold damage. [Mon Apr 04 04:41:27 2005] YOUR Whirlwind hits an enraged shade for 88 points of cold damage. [Mon Apr 04 04:41:31 2005] YOUR Whirlwind hits an enraged shade for 81 points of cold damage. [Mon Apr 04 04:41:35 2005] YOUR Whirlwind hits an enraged shade for 84 points of cold damage. Whirlwind: Post-change (28% decrease in damage) ---------------------- [Thu Apr 07 04:55:52 2005] YOUR Whirlwind hits an enraged shade for 71 points of cold damage. [Thu Apr 07 04:55:56 2005] YOUR Whirlwind hits an enraged shade for 60 points of cold damage. [Thu Apr 07 04:56:01 2005] YOUR Whirlwind hits an enraged shade for 58 points of cold damage. [Thu Apr 07 04:56:05 2005] YOUR Whirlwind hits an enraged shade for 59 points of cold damage. [Thu Apr 07 04:56:09 2005] YOUR Whirlwind hits an enraged shade for 66 points of cold damage. Dooming Swarm: Pre-change ------------------------- [Wed Mar 23 11:33:59 2005] YOUR Dooming Swarm hits an undertow puppet for 57 points of divine damage. [Wed Mar 23 11:34:03 2005] YOUR Dooming Swarm hits an undertow puppet for 49 points of divine damage [Wed Mar 23 11:34:08 2005] YOUR Dooming Swarm hits an undertow puppet for 53 points of divine damage. [Wed Mar 23 11:34:12 2005] YOUR Dooming Swarm hits an undertow puppet for 55 points of divine damage. [Wed Mar 23 11:34:16 2005] YOUR Dooming Swarm hits an undertow puppet for 54 points of divine damage. Dooming Swarm: Post-change (17% decrease in damage) [Fri Apr 08 17:31:15 2005] YOUR Dooming Swarm hits an undertow puppet for 42 points of divine damage. [Fri Apr 08 17:31:20 2005] YOUR Dooming Swarm hits an undertow puppet for 46 points of divine damage. [Fri Apr 08 17:31:24 2005] YOUR Dooming Swarm hits an undertow puppet for 45 points of divine damage. [Fri Apr 08 17:31:28 2005] YOUR Dooming Swarm hits an undertow puppet for 42 points of divine damage. [Fri Apr 08 17:31:32 2005] YOUR Dooming Swarm hits an undertow puppet for 48 points of divine damage. I chose the above examples randomly from my log. I have found these ratios to be consistant with all other types of mobs regardless of damage mitigation and level/con color. Our DoTs now more accurately match the spell description, so this could be called a 'fix'. I prefer to call it a 'nerf' however.

![]() Resistances now effect DoTs, whereas before they didn't. Think that was last patch, will have to go back and check. edit: found it. - Resistances against Cold, Heat, Poison, Disease, Magic, Divine, and Mental attacks will now mitigate the per-tick damage of DoT spells. It may be time to shop for resist gear. 2nd post, 2nd line. Message Edited by Rish on 04-14-2005 07:23 PM |

Thanks Rish. Now that you mentioned this, I now remember this going live. I suppose this is a clever way for SOE to nerf ALL casters, without getting everyone all upset about it. I've heard zero people complain about this change. 17%-28% damage reduction still sucks though, any way you look at it. Oh well, still looking forward to priest balancing. We'll see what happens then.

This change was actually made because of whiny players, not as a nerf. People were complaining that the epic raid mobs casted AoE DoT spells that would hit them for 2000 damage per tick. They wanted a chance to resist that on a per tick basis, not on a per cast basis. So the change went in. The flip side is that everyone with DoT's suffered a decrease in DPS. The summoners are talking about it, but not too many other classes. Verax
