It all depends on what you want to do. I love my wizzie... even when he was severely gimped...

I think since the revamp a wizzie is much more fun to play.  of course i was about lvl 40 when the changes were made.  but since then my spells have been much more devistating.  Don't worry what you saw the necro do.  he may just have an upgraded spell to a master or something.  stick with the wizzie and you'll see some high numbers.

Don't play for "power."  Power is relative.  Pick a class because of style.  If you like necro style with pets and creepiness and all that, pick a necro.  If you want to burn a mob down NOW, go wizard.  Necros may be more versatile overall, but wizards have the best single-target burst damage in the game.

If Necro is a favorite, then why didn't you go with what you like over what you precieved? There are also 6 character slots to make toons, so why not have several characters and see which you like.

Necro's are definitely > Wizards

I'm level 60 and duo with a level 60 Necro alot.

Their roots literally dont break.

Their pets can do mad dps.

They can heal themselves (and their duo partner SMILEY )

They can rez people.

Necro + necro damage pet = uber dps.

I wouldnt change from Wizard to Necro, but boy i sure would like to have a pet tank (that has a special attack that can do +2000damage), overall more dps then what i have now, way better root, could heal myself, could rez others, etc.

They dont get the big nukes we get but their dps is awesome. They have the best aoe dps imo(about same as rangers, which both out dps warlocks in our guild in aoe encounters), and great single target dps.

So yeah you might want to become a Necro.

I was lead to believe i would be top dps with warlocks, not rangers, necro's, and bruisers out dpsing me, but anyways im still happy with the BIG improvement we've had since revamp. Anyways thats kinda off topic SMILEY

<3 Necro's

Which is a good point to make - a few weeks ago Warlocks were the Flavor of the Month - now Wizards got a boost in their DPS - along with quite a few others classes. You can't be sure that there won't be some changes coming on the near horizon that might knock Necro's back quite a bit and you'll end up having invested a great deal of time in a class that you now feel has been "gimped". While some Wizards are feeling like the combat changes were a net "good" for them - if you read other forums there are quite a few classes up in arms over some of the changes - it's possible - perhaps even LIKELY that there are more changes on the horizon that might have some impact on other classes. Necro's included. Ashtura's advice to "play what you like" seems sage indeed. Today's Flavor of the Month could be tomorrows [Removed for Content] class. And visa versa. Be careful. -GB-

Watch it. Necro is flavour of the month atm, and we all know what happens to Flavors of the month. Warlock is a perfect example of what a Flavour of the month title can do to a profession

waste your time ? it all depends what you love. I enjoy being a wizard, having a big Kaboom spell that makes all people say 'waoo'. I enjoy connecting and receiving an invite before I even have the UI fully loaded. I enjoy being invited in groups because they don't find DPS who wanna come. Why ? because lots of DPS just solo, and I personnaly don't like solo. What else ? we killed one mob in giants mountains for the tablet quest with 3 useless players (healers ! ) and 2 wizzies : root, kaboom, stiffle, paralyze, root2, wait, till mob dead.  With a 3K AE melee, we had to concentrate on not letting him move, and of course he was resisting us ! I love evac, I enjoy giving power to a tank who says 'OOP i need to rest soon' We went to harpy zone and cleaned it all with a full 52 group : 1 tank, 3 healers, one coercer and me. That's DPS and agro management. That's Wizzard job. Hehe 2 days after i went into the same zone with a guy who told me that it was not possible to fight in there if not 54 ! because too many resists. Of course, you must debuff and use dolls (and tbh one of the healers was a fury) and as I am only 52, I guess I'll enjoy leveling for a good while.

Some great responses here, but no-one's covered the point I would like to make (or I've missed it if they did)... At level 19, no you didn't waste your time.  At level 30+ then maybe you should worry if you think you're playing the wrong class, but level 19 is what... a week casual and a couple of days dedicated effort? If you are still unsure whether you'd prefer to play Necro, then take a week or two and play one up to level 25 or so.  I didn't know if I wanted Wiz or Warlock, I went with Warlock (pre combat changes) and discovered I loved the class... then after the combat changes I didn't like what they did so much, so I just started up another character and created my current favourite character : Badda BOOM, the rather surprisingly fun Ogre Wizard!

Misinformation aside, no, wizards are not [Removed for Content] compared to necromancers.  If you're looking to play the "best" class don't assume that it's gonna be a necro, they're only best in certain situations... averaged throughout a playsession fighting all different types of encounters at even level the wizard usually has a higher DPS than the necro.  Neither class is worse than the other, they're just different.

if you're really looking to test the style of the char, head over to the test server.  i haven't tried this myself, but i have heard rumored that u can make a char, type a / command and boom u are 25.  anyone speak to the truth of this?  would save the time of working a class up.
