![]() Hi, My level 22 Pally has always used Swords (Pristine great sword and pristine 1 handed sword) and seems to do reasonable damage. But I do seem to miss and be parried quite often in combat when not using combat arts. I read somewhere that hammers never miss skellies so got a couple of questions. Do hammers only never miss skellies or does that include other undead like zombies too? If hammers are that good against Skellies is there and reason to use a sword? (Apart from the fact that I'm a knight.) My hammer skill is going to be rock bottom as I've never used one, does that mean I won't be able to equip a decent hammer until the crushing skill is high enough or will I be able to equip a lvl20+ hammer but not be able to hit for much. Don't think I've ever seen anyone using hammers so any advice would be great, thanks. |

![]() I'm not sure about the hammers/skellies issue, but I ran into the problem of low crushing skill around level 20. My suggestion is to pick up a hammer and go bash on green things for a little while. Your skill will rise rapidly. Shouldn't take more than an hour or so to get it back up to speed. |

![]() Grey things will raise the skill too. What I do to keep it maintained is always carry a two handed hammer for soloing, and a one handed sword / shield for grouping. If you do a near-equal amount of each, you should have no trouble.

![]() At level 24 my crushing skill was in the 30s. I picked up a Starfall and headed to the Steppes Crow field and found me a nice double up gray crow. Threw on Knight's Stance and started pounding on him, no HO's... no divine proc effect, just what my weapon would dish out. The crow could barely touch me, most I was ever down was maybe 100 health. The fight no joke took 15 minutes, but I climbed from around 36 to close to 80 in that time. Next fight took maybe five minutes and was up into the 90s. Fight after that maybe three minutes, high 90s... and so on. Was never in any danger and skill climbed fast. BTW, if you are in your mid 20's Starfall ROCKS!

![]() Is starfall from the brokers or loot? Any advantage to using hammers over Swords? Thanks for all your help here :smileyhappy:

![]() starfall quest drops of various mobs in thundering steppes. I think it was a broken mace head (or very similar) You have to examine the drop and the quest starts from there.

![]() don't know about hammers never missing undead, pretty sure ive missed a few but to put your mind at ease: 1. Hammer skill is set by lvl so you will b able to equip same lvl hammer as swords. Its your crushing skill that is low and will need working. As for your hammer vs sword arguement, well I've never really worried about the type, I use the best weapon based on dmg/dely stats rather than type of weapon excluding 2hander or 1hander vs shield of coarse. For example I used berik' sword of thunder from lvl 25-28 the I got the mace Starfall and have swapped to that, next I expect I'll be switching to my Weakened Ghoulbane when i can use it. Therefore I'd suggest you pick a weapon based on the quality of the weapon rather than the type, and try keeping both skills up, you may have a great sword now but might then loot a hammer with better stats or vice versus. ![]() I use a pristine carbonite great sword and starfall with a shield. My son spotted starfall on the broker for a gold and grabbed it for me.

![]() Arrg!!!! All of you people with Starfall suck. JK I've been trying for about 2 weeks to get the quest starter or buy a Starfall with no luck. I have gotten every quest starter known to man that drops in TS except the one for Starfall and ive had no luck with the broker either. If anyone has one on Kithicor they want to sell I will gladly take it off your hands. Guess when I out level it and don't want it anymore I will get more than I can stand.

![]() I used Starfall through about level 30, Man I loved that weapon! Best looking weapon in the game IMHO. As good a damage as many 2 handers. Alas, it now sits in the bank. I sure wish they would add a quest to upgrade it in some way, shape, or form. What a shame to bank such an awesome weapon.

![]() Agreed, Starfall sure is pretty! Wish they would make a way to display quest weapons in your home when done with them. Some day I would love to hang ole Starry in a place of honor. As an aside, when I do the BBC down the road and strike my Berik's against it, will I lose my Berik's? That's another weapon I wouldn't mind displaying!

I love my Giantbane. Looks like the starfall surpassed it by a long way but I love swords so I guess when the time comes I'll have to look around for another decent sword

What about 2h weapons? Or is the loss of shield defense not worth it?

the giantbane is 2H. I think it depends on the situation. You should do better DPS with a 2H against a 1H for the most part.

So as a Pally, you would want to train and equip with a second weapon/shield option if your primary is a 2hander?If I primarily solo, am I going to find that damage I recieve while using a 2H to be too much? I take it that AGL does not offer enough 'defense' to fight like a Samuri, as opposed to tanking with a shield, or is a shield a MUST for Fighters in EQ2?Thanks in advance.

![]() A shield for a soloing pally is practically a must, i know a lot of people have leveled their pally's using 2 hand weapons, but i can't justify losing the defense. I keep both my crushing and slashing skills as close to equal as possible, because there is a difference in damage and certain mobs resistances to those skills. I solo with a 1 hand hammer and a 1 hand sword and i keep a 2 hand sword in my inventory if i'm going to be off tanking with a guardian or berserker.*Some day i'll be swimming in platinums until then no 2hand hammer for me ![]() This also raises a question about what happens if the MT loses aggro during a confrontation, easy, keep one of your inventory bags open and be ready to switch to shield in a heartbeat to regain aggro if necessary, It takes about 5 seconds to switch any piece of armor or weapon after you've switched one. Example: I switch from 2hand sword to shield, its instantaneous, after that there's a 5 second delay. You dont need your sword or hammer to taunt, shield bash, stun, ward, heal, rescue hit your 1hander and you're back in the mix

![]() Level 47 pally: Soloing: Always use EBBC unless i have multiple targeting hitting me that are around green^^ group mob difficulty or higher, (includes named) Note: yes you do lose your Berik when you make/strike the EBBC. Groups: When fighting up to white mobs or have a decent cleric i will use the EBBC. Typical places include PF and CT. I have a manastone (for extra heals/wards etc) and mostly rare ebon armour so using 2HS becomes more viable that perhaps someone with fulginate or lesser armour/equipment. For named i use Proudfoot Morningstar + player made rare pristine cedar shield, (around 7250ac unbuffed). Looking for Totemic kite shield from lavastorm/broker. I am currently finishing my ''Screaming Mace'' heritage in CT, which will replace the proudfoot. GB is too grey to use. Other weapon suggesting may include soul harvester but very rare, ebon sceptre with less stats, less damage but lower delay. Mercenary Greatsword is a vaiable option if you do not have the ebon yet. We as paladins do not get a vast selection of weapons. Message Edited by Siphar on 02-28-2005 12:31 AM |

I have usually 2 weapons with me. Either a 2H hammer and a 1H sword, or a 1H hammer and a 2H sword. When soloing or tanking in a group, I will put up Shining Beacon and use the 1H weapon and a shield. Not only for the AC, but also for the ability to stun the mob to get a better shot at Oath Strike and doing solo HO's. When fighting in a group in DPS-mode, I will drop Shining Beacon and use the two-hander. I keep the weapons of different types (hammer and sword) to keep up both skills. This works, since I solo/tank and group/dps to an equal amount.

![]() Elaric, I had a horrible time getting my hands on the drop for Starfall. Eventually, I gave up and bought one on the broker for about 5 gold. Sadly enough, I found the loot drop the next day (my luck). Better yet, I believe I've found a common spawn point for the drop. We were in Thundering Steppes near tower 4 (or 5) the one closest to the two pits full of ^^ skellies. At any rate, I was in the open field behind the tower and single pit. If you go further back behind the pit, you'll see an opening in the valley full of Centaur Hunters. Like clockwork, the entrance into the valley that ultimately ends up on a bridge over the dead river contains a ^^ Centaur Hunter. The mob was a green ^^ for me and when my trio group of local friends killed him our scout received the quest from a chest drop. A half hour later we needed more Centaur Hunters so went back. The exact same mob dropped a chest and the Starfall quest again! I received the loot drop this time and proceeded to catch up with our scout so we could complete the quest together. We told our healer friend about the location and had no luck on a third attempt at the kill. However, he reported a group encounter on the same mob the following day that netted the quest. That was 3 Starfall quests in 2 days from the exact same mob. Remember the mob will need to be at least green to get a chest drop. Good luck! Kalen

![]() The blunts do miss undead just as much as swords do. It`s hard to tell though if a blunt has a +undead damage bonus though since most 1 hand blunts are more damage then swords. I carry a pris forged carb flamberge for the 1.6 delay it has and its swings super fast. I also carry a carb morning star with a 2.3 delay and while it does swing a but slower then the flamberge it hits for a dencent amount more. I am wagering though that on a dps parser thay are about the same though since the sword swings faster and youll get more swings and hits per minute with the sword compared to the fewer harder hits you would get with the blunt. good rule of thumb though to follow is pick whatever weapon type you like the most.slash/blunt and find the fastest one you can find for 1 handed use. starfall is a great mace even though it looks like a toilet brush but i sem to kill alot faster with the weakend ghoulbane and that right bow is around 20 points less damage then the starfall. The starfall is also a really slow weapon with a 2.5 delay. the greatmaces and greatswords have 2.5 delay too. Try to keep your one hander in the 2 second or under delay range and leave the higher delay for the 2 handers. You will see a difference soloing if you keep that in mind. It`s worked for me for 34 lvls.

![]() You make a very valid point in the last post. Our primary skills are crushing and slashing. I feel its very important to keep both skills capped or near capped at all times. Most pallys from 20 to the mid 30's tend to search for (when using a shield) - Dwarven Sword of Cleansing (slashing) - Berik's Sword of Thunder (slashing) - Starfall (crushing) - Weakened Ghoulbane (slashing) - Ghoulbane (slashing) Many player crafts offer good stats, but most pallys go with a two hand crushing weapon when off tanking (OT) as crushing weapons tend to do more damage then slashing. I've seen plenty of good damage slash weapons, but always go with crushing to keep my skills equal since most of the time I MT with a shield and slash weapon. It's easy to stick with slashing weapons and build strong skills only to find an uber crushing weapon and learn that you have 1/4 or 1/3 of the capped skill level. I tend to carry both types and switch back and forth to keep my skills at the top of their game. Should I find a great slashing weapon or great crushing weapon, I'm prepared to use it on day one with success. At level 35 I main tank with Ghoulbane and the player rare crafted pristine conditioned oak kite shield. When I offtank, I use a feysteel warhammer. I have the Caretaker's Bludgoner (sic) banked for a few more levels that will replace my two hand crush weapon, but since I primarily MT, it's Ghoulbane. I enjoy the roll of the offtank especially when visiting new areas where I know less about the mob locations and floor plan. When I'm OT I lend AC to the MT and swing away with my 2-h hammer. Thanks, Kalen

What are all the full names of all the appreviated weapons? Also, what are the good 2h slashing weapons? Are they just player made ones? Which ones are realitically obtainable by non-guilded pallies? Thanks in advance.

![]() I'm a pure slash type myself, maybe its a flaw, but it works. For myself, I keep a Pristine Forged Carbonite Claymore and Weakened Ghoulbane/Kite Shield on hand. The two hander I'll break out for mobs that run from green to white, then use GB and shield for yellows and oranges when the defense really counts. If inventory space is critical, I'll put the claymore in storage and stick with the sword and board.

at mid 20s I use the following weapons, Starfall (few gold on Qeynos broker) with Stormshield when I need the ac and heavy damage (can use with shield) Berik, Sword of Thunder (saving for EBBC but useful for quick damage with shield equipt) and my favorite for assistant tanking, Twisted [Removed for Content] Sword, best two hand damage atm with a quciker delay, bought for around 5 gold on the Freeport black market,it is a quest from Fallen Gate.
