Ok, I've heard that choice of race is for pure appearance purposes...

But if you had to choose, which of the small races would be the best for an SK? (Dwarf, Gnome, Ratonga, Halfling)

And a broader question....which race overall would be the best choice for an SK? (just no elves)

Personal opinion - Ratonga's are the only cute short race.  Halflings and Dwarves especially are way too ugly to look at for 70 levels !From the point of stats - racial starting stats have very minimal impact, SK's use pretty much every stat, so if thats a priority then perhaps a short human
Obviously there is a few extra hours involved in betraying (and loss of spells) for Qeynos only races. From a practical view though - its nice for the Tank to be if anything BIGGER than normal, as they are often the player you want to find/click on in a hurry.I do also remember a certain very short dwarf paladin in my guild having issues with jumping :smileywink:

No, no more Ratonga SK's! I like being the only level 70 Ratonga SK on Nektulos, and one of the very few worldwide, it's a nice feeling. SMILEYKidding, honestly I picked a Ratonga Fighter just to show my new friend around EQ II, I had no idea it would become my main.Base stats don't matter in the longrun, pick which you like.

None of the above. The Shadowknight is a creature of fear, malice, darkness and despair. They are a supernatural warrior of sorts, and a Knight dedicated to the cause of evil.  None of those races qualify, as they dont embody any of those "virtues". With the possible exception of Ratonga, or dwarf. Niether of which I find very scary, regardless.I'd be interested to hear your reasons why you want a small race....Yep base stats dont matter, but I think racial traits and traditions can make a difference if you select the right ones. and the larger races have more traits in line with "tanking" which is what a SK does.

For a small race, go Ratonga. The little bastiages are secerative enough as it is with their stash of cheese, and everything else for that matter, that they can stike fear into the hearts of their enemies. . .even if they are laughing at their size. Personal choice though is DE, which I have stated over and over, for RP reasonings. =D

People pick smaller races on the pvp servers because they are supposedly harder to target. Not that I really think they are apart from when they are in raids and stuff, and then nothing that moves is an easy thing to target. SMILEY

Yeah, I understand they have an illusion that they are harder to target in pvp, which is rubbish really.

Gnomes, cuz there just aren't enough gnome plate tanks in the game. SMILEY

(And every time I see a halfling SK, I just want to gouge my eyes out).

Personally, I love being a half elf SK. SMILEY

I'd say gnome. They are by all means [Removed for Content] ugly, but there's just something evil about a gnome in dark armor with the classhat and a giant scythe on his back SMILEY

Well, I tried gnome, ratonga and a few other non-small races.  I finally settled down with a nice monstrous Ogre.

I've never played a larger race, all my toons are of shorter stature.  Mostly because I didn't like the way they run.  So for fun I made an ogre, as big as they can get, and to my surprise I really like him so far.  He's got more survivability than my smaller races, hit's like a mack truck, and looks darn cool in nice shiny plate armor.

The other thing I thought about was horses....I'm tired of paying for a horse only for my gnome/ratonga/dwarf to get a pony.  By gosh, I want a real horse.  (just gonna save up for a nightmare I think)
