I've heard from some people that 1 hand slash is better cause you get shield skills to bash, etc. but then I've heard 2 hand slash is better. Would just like to get more of a better idea on what more experianced SK's use for slashing weapons. Thanks a bunch! SMILEY

I use 1h and a shield when I'm taking hits, and 2h if I'm a back-up tank. 2h seems to deal more DPS, whereas 1h you get the shield.

I purchase both, and carry both on me.

It's situational. When tanking, the more AC/HP, the merrier, and you're almost guaranteed to have more of a statistical boost with a 1h-/shield combination. 2h- is primarily used for DPS purposes. Your best bet is to keep one, or more, of each.

Shield also comes in handy when playing secondary tank against mobs that proc Barrage. The extra AC makes a big difference between getting hit for full damage or little/none. I also have to stop loaning AC during Barrage fights, otherwise I take more damage from Barrage does then the main tank takes from everything else. Sometimes, you just can't find the sweet spot where you're close enough to whack on the mob without getting nailed by the Barrage.

I always carry a 1h + Shield to tank, and a 2h for DPS when not tank.

I carry a 1h weapon, a shield, and a 2h weapon all the time. When killing low solo mobs or greys for quests, I use the 2h, it does much more damage, and I'm in little danger of taking damage. The important thing to remember is that your spells/arts do not vary based on the damage of your weapon. One weapon is better than another only in the 'autoattack' damage... As a fighter, we have to depend on the autoattack damage of a good weapon to do alot of our DPS, depend on armor to let us live long enough to do kill things. Most special attacks, up to 20, aren't worth the power cost to use, except the ones to do your HO, or the ones that have defensive side effects like Faithful Swing's heal effect, or the knockdown on Charge.Haathud20 ShadowKnightGuk

I agree on the above. I don't even think Faithful Swing is worth using. The heal effect is so small that you won't notice it, and the DPP is very low. DPP on charge is also very low, but the knockdown is very useful against casters or as added defense when in a group, where your DPP doesn't matter (hopefully).

Best DPP in the high 20ies is Fetid Grasp and Righteous Anger. If it doesn't get resisted, that is SMILEY

I've come to really like 2h slashing, especially with my App IV sorrow... I regularly hit for over 100 damage with my sorrow and it costs a measly 25 power w/ 8 second refresh. It's an incredible DPS booster.I'll still use 1hs and shield for MT action, but when I solo in zek and in EL I take out the faysteel [Removed for Content] sword and let em have it.

Just curious is this true? Does it make a SK more boring to play? Just wondering because I'm making a new SK for an alt, my main is a monk and at about 20 was where my specials really took off. I can frontload a large amount of damage and I like being kept busy cycling through my attacks. Are SKs fun to use in a fight? or will I be disapointed?

I've also heard somewhere that 2HS prevents you from equiping a shield (of course) BUT grants you much better mitigation. Tests I've done with 1 HS / Shield and 2 HS didn't shown a really huge difference in tanking abilities. Now of course, if I get hit (and the more the mobs are in higher lvl range, the more they hit you with ease), the shield prevent a larger part of the damage but I still get hit less often.

If you are not main tank, please use a 2 hander. I am tired of seeing silly people use one handers and shields as dps. Dps on a 2 hander is significantly better.

One exception. I still have a tier3 rare (steel) 1H weapon. Here's what I carry at level 33:Forged Feyiron Tulwar (2H/Slashing) - yellow conMine: 27-82 (32-96 at level 3SMILEYBase: 15-44Delay: 2.0 secEbon Eye War Maul (2H/Crushing) - yellow conMine: 34-103 (37-110 at level 35)Base: 17-51Delay: 2.4 secPristine Forged Steel Battle Hammer (1H/Crushing) - green con, attunedMine: 23-70 (maxed out at level 30)Base: 11-32Delay: 2.0 secNow, at level 33, it's about time to retire the steel hammer. The tulwar has finally surpassed it for damage. But from 30-31, the tulwar actually put out less damage then my battle hammer.Other advantage of using the 1H+shield when secondary tank was that I could avoid barrage blasts better (having an addition 300 AC), plus doing a spot bit of off-tanking meant I wasn't going to get smushed. Most of the time, however, it is true that secondary tanks who are not taking damage should equip their 2H weapons. I just was a bit of an exception since I had a rare 1H weapon that did almost as much damage as my 2H weapons of that tier.
