![]() Speaking as a scout, if scouts are beating you easily, IMHO thinking its one of 2 reasons: 1. Avoidance - Simply not high enough. Try boosting your agi for this one. 2. Twinks - Could be that all those scouts are running around with legendary and fabled gear (which I never got around to getting, nor will for that matter) As far as I know, higher grade weapons will hit you more often. As for the fear spell, you bet its effective. Basically gives you a bit of extra time where your opponent isn't smacking you around while your hitting them. As for stuns, try to time them so that they go off as soon as one expires (which is about 2 seconds pvp time, not sure on the time for bruiser stuns though). For runners, all I can say is if you think they are going to run, stun them. Pretty sure Bruisers range is dismal at best (may get throwing weapons not sure, though I've never had one range me so I doubt you have any) If you cant stun them, all you can do is watch as they run away into the sunset. The best bet to counter runners is to duo (at minimum) with a class that can prevent them from running (druid/scout are the best bet, mage would also work but don't have the same punch with a bruiser and tend to be very brittle) As for class specific questions, you'll need a pvp bruiser to help you out, but IMO i like attacks on one row, buffs in the 2nd and heals/debuffs in the 3rd (I use 4 rows of hotbars just for ease myself, keep everything separate but some bruisers may have a different setup that you would like) -edited for spelling Message Edited by ebonywolf on 08-28-2006 02:03 PM |

Agility does very little for your avoidance. If scouts are beating you easily in pvp you might want to look into upgrading your armour and your defensive stance to at least mastercrafted/adept 3. In PvP you should always be in your defensive stance, as well as pacing your stuns out so they dont run into the stun immunity timers. Mez and Fear are quite useful in PvP, those are also high on the list of upgrades. As for people running away, you really have no way of stopping them like scouts or casters do. The best you can do is get a good ranged weapon and lots of ammo and just use ranged auto attack if they try to run, or sprint up to them and use a stun.

Not quite sure agility does little for avoidance... theres plenty of casters runnin around with around 50% avoidance because of +agi. And casters arent generally known for their ability to avoid hits mind you :smileyhappy:

Also, defensive stance is not always your best bet. Against casters, for instance, you're often better off going full offensive and taking them down ASAP. Also, when facing Swashies (or anyone for that matter) with riposte it's actually better to use offensive stance as you parry less and thus are less vulnerable to riposte damage. In short, decide whether the fight is best won with burst damage or avoidance and act accordingly. Fear and mez are useful - but can be temperamental so don't build your tactics on them. Catching runners is one of the banes of being a Bruiser. We're not good at catching them and there's no getting away from that fact. However, ranged damage has been made more respectable recently (I often get ranged hits for over 1000) and if the runner is a fair way from a zone point you can often drop them from ranged attacks alone. There is a technique you can use that enables you to teleport to your target and mez it - but sadly that won't be available to you until Tier 6.

I've never had a problem killing swashbucklers in defensive stance until they are level 65 and get En Garde. For casters I've found that defensive helps me better by giving me more defense against whoever else might be beating on me at the time, as well as a substantial boost to poison resistance should I be facing a warlock. My caster strategy is usually just hitting stone deaf and beating the snot out of them, and it's worked fairly well so far. Agility does help with avoidance, but its a very small benefit (10 agility gives you around 0.3% avoidance, which is why I find it very hard to believe that a caster boosted his avoidance to 50% using agility. They were likely using gear that gives bonuses to defensive skills). At lower levels upgrading your stances and gear to mastercrafted/adept 3 levels will do far more for your ability to survive than pouring points into agility.

my pvp bruiser is level 50 now and I use offensive stance exclusively. The reason is that we need fast damage to keep them from running. Against scouts, I try to have all my stuns available for when my opponent hits ~40% HPs. Then I try to keep him stunned and do the big attacks to drop the last 40% HPs to keep him from evacing.level 30 is a [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] because there are lots of people in the 30-40 area that have their exp locked. They have rare/fabled gear and have all their combat arts at adept3 and M1. And you are green to them. The outcome should be evident. But if you also lose against those regular scouts that don't only hang around with their 5 other dreadnaught friends, then something is wrong as bruisers usually win against scouts.for chasing runners: make sure you have a rare crafted ranged item. For me, this has higher priority than armor parts. And get ammo appropriate to your tier.Finni / Finnster
