I realise this seems like a real newbie question for someone in their 50's, but I have just harvested my first hard metal rare in my entire time in the game (have had 3 pearls, 2 vanadium, 3 rare pelts and 2 ironwood in T6 to date, so it's not through lack of trying).

Anyway, what's it to be?  I would assume an imbued BP is the first choice, but after that does everyone max their armour in cobalt before looking at weapons or is there some debate on this.

On another point - is it just me or is the proc from the imbued leg armour more trouble than it's worth?  The number of times it has gotten me killed by slowing me and putting me in combat when I am trying to run is rediculous.  Although actually on reflection maybe it's the procs from the buffs that are doing it ... hmmm ... anyway I'd appreciate your thoughts on this as well.

Thanks in advance

If you dual wield just get Ironwood imbued batons, they will be much cheaper than cobalt and give the same damage rating and i think the same stats (give or take one on str as opposed to sta or agi i forget which way it goes). Same thing if your using 1h and Shield, just get an ironwood and save your cobalt for your armor first. And with armor i'd go BP, Legs, Shoulders Forearms and Gloves, then if you get more after that boots and Helm but you can get some dropped stuff thats purdy good for a helm or Gauntlets if you want to go that route (i did).

Edit Note: Nektulos for teh win SMILEY

If you tank, then definelty the armor first.  If you don't tank much, then weapons first.

Some people end up DPSing more than they do tanking, so you cant really knock a guy if he goes Weapons first. Besides if he has Ebon armor and a T5 treasured weapon you'd want to upgrade the wep first because it would be a bigger 'upgrade.' I however was the opposite, with good weps but crappy armor when i got to T6, so i went to Cobalt quick, and since i tank more than i DPS I felt it better to go with armor first...but even still i upgraded one of my dual wields with an Ironwood Baton myself when i was doing that.

Well, ya, it really depends on the armor and weapons you currently have.  If your weapon is too low a level to really even hit mobs (like 10+levels behind you), then maybe you should upgrade that first.

Bottom line, Armor first.  I was tanking for a group in Clefts a ways back, and had to go after a good grind.  They found another berzerker to meet them at zone entrance.  On my way out, I inspected him.  He had T4 crafter crap on, at lvl 50+.  People notice what you got on, and he just flat out looked ridiculous (it was all at 60% too, hehe).

Only did breatplate and legs. Cobalt is good stuff-T7 xegonite actually has less mitigation, but nicer stats.  Good cobalt stuff is great, even for later makes good back-up gear for raids and stuff like that.

It really depends on how you play the game.  I am in a raiding guild, so I have like 3 legendary helms, and some fabled off items.  If you are going this route, I would not worry too much about it.

Only time I am not MT is on raids, so having some good wpns is always handy.  For the few times I am not MT in a small group, I still fight in tank mode, cuz I always end up peeling some kind of an add or another, and I don't like getting caught with my pants down.
