It's a really fun class, that is if you like...

It's a really fun class, that is if you like helping other people stay alive and always being able to find a group.  Templars are arguably the best healers in the game, of course this is balanced...

I don't think you need to respec really but personaly i found the improved magi shield to be better for necro since it also increases the life of your minions, helps keep those silly rats alive...
