<DIV>Does the damage attached to castigate go up with adept 3 and master 1 or just the numb of hostile spells and debuffs?</DIV>

You know, I have been watching my logs and parser for damage from castigate, and I have not seen it. It supposedly does damage, but I have not seen the damage it does. I have tested numerous times with group mobs waiting until I get 3 or more active negative effects and never see it do damage.

<DIV>I see it work all the time. Never see it do crazy amounts of damage, but have seen it hit 4 or so mobs for close to 500 each.</DIV>

I have it do BOATLOADS of damage for me all the time. <span>:smileytongue:</span>Seriously, when doing writs with my wife, I'll tell her not to cure me and pull about 5 groups of green multi-mob heroic encounters. Once I have about 5-10 things ticking away on me, Castigate and watch about 10,000+ damage (because each dot is doing the DD hit on every mob in the AoE). It's really not that great on raids (except to get that cure off that the healer forgot about), but for those writ runs, it's the most fun spell in the book!!! <span>:smileyvery-happy:</span><div></div>

Wow... I have to go back and look then. I had recently been watching for it, and using it several times for testing and did not see it do any damage in the logs. I'll go back and do another test.

Ya it allways works for me seems to do 500 or so base damage and doesnt seem to have a limit to number it can hit. Have seen it hit 12 at once in shimering citidal raid. Does anyone have the master1 of this and could you just do a check see if it does more than 500 base damage.

Here is what my log reports with a Master 1 castigate and 2 dots in a 4 mob encounter: (1159878132)[Tue Oct 03 08:22:12 2006] The nightmares fade. It seems to be similar to Call of Storms Damage (Fury), that crit is the same as mine on max INT damage with crits heading into the high 900s.If you want to know how much damage it can do head into the dragon pit in HoF and gather your 'curables' and fire <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />... last time I set CoS off in there I did 48k damage (over 20s)

<DIV>I took a look at this again last night and found the same thing, on a crit hit I was doing 6xx damage. Funny, all the castigate hits I got were crits as well so I don't know what the non-crit hits looks like. This is with a master 1 castigate... there are about 10 of them on our broker for under 5 plat, many in the 2-3p range.</DIV>

Did this spell used to take into account your health at the time? Or is this a different ability I'm referencing?<BR>IE Lower health = more damage

Yep same here. I pull 2 or maybe 3, 4-5 grouped mobs and when just enough of dots are on me I Fire it of and you got some crazy damage <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /><div></div>

I havent tested it really, but it seems to do way more damage when you have multiple diffrent types of DoT's on you. Like one of each Trauma, Arcane, Elemental, Noxious.

<DIV>this is more of a 'fun' spell for me hehe.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Its the most fun if u mentor. I have 2 accounts, and iv had a personal goal to have 1 of every healer type on my secondary account 60+ by end of EoF (dont ask...i have too much time on my hands). I found mentored...it is stupidly over powered. You can knock off 20+ debuffs/dots and it go off for EVERY single one. At lvl 29..mentored down, i would pull a whole room in like...say..fallen gate. When i see 2 or 3 row's of debuffs/dots on me, id throw castigate down. I would then desimate 15+ triple ups in 1 AE.....i think playing around my guilds assassin was watching me and i parsed something like 18kish from it (keep in mind this was in the late 20s too)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Tho i have seen this work in raids....removes AE dots that is taking ur priest a few seconds to get too...that is a nice plus...but i still enjoy blowing up whole rooms of t3 content with it :smileyvery-happy:</DIV>

The long recast prevents this spell from being a reliable damage dealer, but I have noticed that the aviaks on the third level of PoA often put all four types of effects on me, and they're easy, so you can pull quite a few of them for max AE targets. That's been the best place for it, in my experience, not including green/grey/mentoring content. The pit in HoF is all trauma buffs, so it only gets about 3 of them, x8 targets, as I remember. I might have 20 debuffs, but I can't cure more than a couple, thus castigate don't do much damage, there.Unfortunatly, most arcane effects tend to prevent me from casting, so that limits castigate damage and usefulness a lot. So does the casting time, unless you make a big effort to coordinate this minor AE with priest cures. It would be much less frustrating if it had a very fast cast time, and could be cast while stunned. It would be much more powerful if it were on a shorter timer. But, I don't expect any change. Castigate has its uses.<div></div>

<blockquote><hr>JamesRay wrote:Did this spell used to take into account your health at the time? Both generate hate nicely.

It originally healed the paladin for around 600 health (I got the first castigate Master I on the server the second day KoS came out) and did a base 1.6k nuke and that nuke was to increase to be even more the lower you were in health when used with less then 50% health remaining. They changed the spell though about 2 weeks into the expansion to its current form....although it was never posted in an SOE update or tested on the test server...just a quite nerf. Personally I think SOE was afraid it would inbalance the paladin class giving them such a powerful nuke versus the SK class. Just imagine how insane that spell would have been when raiding...you get hit by an AOE like the one from Vyeme and get knocked down to 30% health instantly and do an instant 7k nuke (at about 400 int prob) AND heal yourself for 1k in the process.</P> <P>The current version is useful in raiding, but nearly as so as the previous version was in my opinion. A lot of posters don't see a huge amount of damage done by this when they have a lot of dots on them because they don't factor in 1 critical element in the spell...it DISPELLS only 122 levels of spell effects. So if you are facing a lvl 70+ opponent, you're lucky if it removes 2 of the dots instead of just one.</P> <P>If you want to see this do a ton of damage, head to a lower zone and do an instance run and get a ton of dots on you. I did the Court of Coin instance in Maj Dul and cured 6 dots and nuked 3k instantly on 25 mobs across about 8 encounters. The big thing this spell does is it hits EVERY mob in EVERY encounter you are engaged with...pretty awesome in that regard.<BR></P>

Castigate in it's current form, is nothing more then a fluff spell that has very limited use. If people actually think it attributes to our dps in anyway, they seriously need to learn about dps...and for that matter, there class.<div></div>

<P>i have castigate at adept 3. and it drops those dots nicely... i have adept 3, and when i use it i generally watch for numbers... and i usually see around 400-500 non crit ,600-750 crit on each creature.... and it seems to me the stronger the dot the more damage it does... in pvp this spell works real good, as from what ive seen since i got the spell, the whole group is stunned also...</P> <P> </P> <P> this is one of my favorite spells...</P>
