I'm a little low in level, so I haven't been able to explore this content. I'm interested in the current state of Guk, Erudin, and Paineel. What state are they in and why did this happen? Is there any major event that occurred?

Well, what do you know about how they used to be like?

The evil presence in Guk that turned the frogloks into the undead has more or less taken over all of Guk. The undead warlord Ykesha has his stronghold there with his forces of undead trolls and frogloks. The frogloks of Tupta are investigating what is going on inside, but most of the quests just result in finding out what happened to the previous parties that went inside but never came out. I can't really say there's all that much of a storyline involving Guk... at least not what I could find out, and I've done all the quests inside all 3 instances.

Erudin has been taken over by the Void. A corrupted Erudite named El'Urad intentionally miscalculated the teleportation experiments that the Erudins decided to join together in order to build a new Nexus for teleportation around Norrath. He claims he didn't know that the Nexus on Luclin was still active, so the experiment sent the entire continent into the Ulteran realm, a dimension caught between the Void and Norrath. Now the entire continent is litterally being pulled apart between the Void and the Underfoot. If either side ever managed to completely envelop Odus, all of Norrath will be at risk of destruction.

That said, the Erudites who live in Erudin are happily working for the Void, all of them corrupted. Everyone else banded together into Paineel and have decided to spend the rest of their time studying knowledge instead of fighting each other over religious differences.

You forgot the Underfoot being the other force working on Odus (at least the parts pulled into Ulteran I) so it's probably in a 2 to 3 way dimensional legrange point. Paineel however is a viberant city full of refugees as well as natives, well Paineel III anyway. Once you use the Spires to go to Odus it's just a short hop by teleport pad and is non-aggro to all unless you like killing guards to lower faction.

Cusa, I think what they mean is that your assignment is to write a 5,000 word thesis on the changes to Paineel and Odus between EQ1 pre-PoP and EQ2 SF. Include documentation and reference, maybe with a handy index at the end. Oh! And use some pretty pictures. In color! Yeah! Cause us Kerrans like pretty pictures

Thanks, Cusashorn. I knew about the void/underfoot thing but I've never heard exactly what happened to Erudin. Erudites becoming the void's slaves.... that seems unfortunate, but of course a continent teleporting into another dimension is unfortunate. As for Guk, its a shame there isn't much more info, but is Tupta merely an outpost and not really a village?

More questions: who is el'arad and what is he doing? Also, I've seen it stated that because of the explorer's actions, the hold that the void has on Odus weakens. What happened? Was it the defeat of El'Arad or Roehn Theer?

Frain

El'Arad was leader of the high council of erudin (or something like that) and used his power to weaken erudins defence so the void could take over.

With the help of the lich Fyr'remd Lorak (kerafyrm), Theers has been defeated and Lucan saved. And when the force from the void is removed from odus the underfoot now risk sucking up both odus and the void which is what the next LU is about..

Oh, and Al'Kabor is kinda alive again;D

Yes, we adventures were once again Dragonic pawns.

El'Arad worked for Theer, the 'Grand Seraph' as he called him...and we defeat Theer himself, with the help of Lorak aka Kerafyrm....who uses the same type ritual we used on our mythical weapons on Exonus and Aeteok...making him even more powerful then he was before..infinitely so.

what you learn in Guk is indeed really just that the Curse has consumed the place...although, I beleive one of the quests in the entry guk zone indicated that the final named was using a crystal to fend off the curses effect on thier intelligence, kind of giving them a ghoulish free will. but that was really all that gets said.

Tupta is indeed a city. Guk is lost, Grobb is still the Trolls, so they made Tupta.

As to the tug of war and the new Underfoot raid zone...the idea is that the Void's hold was weakened, but not destroyed...but weakened more then enough to give the underfoot the winning advantage. Master Yael, however, just to make absolutely sure about things, wants to conquer Odus and kill everything on it...and since he's kind of the official guardian of the Underfoot plane, he has all that planes power to back him up.

of course the place I want to get to most, and I'm hoping we will eventually, is the Farsian Nexus chamber itself. considering the workers around the area report hearing voices and counds coming fomr the sealed door, even though most the scholars there agree that nothing should have been able to survive being at ground zero of the Feedback.

To answer your question about Erudin:

It still exists, but is a destroyed and corrupted remnant of what it once was. When El'Arad built the new spires he intentionally misguided the Erudites so that he could bring the Void to Norrath. Erudin and Paineel both worked together to bring the dream of a new Nexus and Spire Network to fruition. They didn't not know of El'Arad's traitorous designs and when they finished and tried to power it up, it was too late. The void breeched Erudin (where the nexus was based since El'Arad was originally a good Erudite).

Many people were lost, including what remained of the Deepwater Knights, trying to defend the city and it's people. Those who survived, fled to Paineel, which is now the main city. As stated before, both factions (Paineel/Erudin) Put aside their differences to work together for their mutual survival against their new enemy.

Erudin is now filled with those who were left behind.

Rainmare
05-19-2010, 08:54 AM

actually, the Nexus was built in Quel'ule, a city they built as 'neutral ground' for them to work on thier joint project.

El'Arad was in charge of the High Council, and disbanded the high guard. when he was confronted on it, he and many of the memebers of the council he corrupted called on thier Shadowedmen allies to solidify thier control on Erudin...resulting ultimately in the massacare in Erudin Palace, and the remnant so fhe the deepwater knights finding/founding the pavillion.

those that made it out of Erudin during the evacuation by the deepwater knights before thier last stand did go to Paineel...and both Paineel and Quel'ule have cast aside all theological trappings in pursuit of knowledge. anyone left in Erudin was more then likely already corrupted/possessed at the time.

Cusashorn

Yeah, in EQlive, the trolls took Grobb back, but in EQ2, there honestly is NO EXPLANATION why the city even exists. Gukta was more than likely destroyed by war and the cataclysms, so did the Trolls just walk back and build a new city or something? There's really no actual lore or explanation.

Iskandar

It sorta fits with the existing lore... sorta... Guktans take Grobb, rename it Gukta... Trolls return with a Dark Elf army, take Gukta and rename it Grobb... again... Guktans flee to Lake Rathe and found a new home city there... Rending destroys their new home... some survivors are stranded in Feerrott and become snacks and slaves for one lizard or another... other survivors are stranded in Innothule and eventually build Tupta there, since the Trolls are still livin large in Grobb and since Guk is not a very nice place to visit, much less live... and somewhere along the line we stop calling them Guktans and go back to Froglok... like you said, it's pretty light on details, but it kinda sorta works...

actually I think it was explained in the Tome of Destiny. the Rallosian's hit Gukta first, and forced them to flee to Guk...which they found was worse off then they thought and thus they again moved to build Tupta. Though after that is anyone's guess.

Cusashorn

i wonder where is "oggok" the ogre city.

Cusashorn
05-22-2010, 05:40 PM

I'm thinking that Oggok will probably be the only city we never actually get to revisit.

If you think about it, the Greenmist wouldn't simply spare any ogres living in the city just because they weren't directly involved in the war. I would think they would be wiped out. I've also heard that it was annihilated by both the Rending AND Shattering after that. The city used to be located right off of the Feerrott. I mean practically as part of it directly, so I don't think they can come up with a reason to just say it was hidden away by some previously unexplored region of that island. AT least with Darklight Woods, they explained that that part of Nektulos forest had changed enough to become it's own climate, and Neriak had to rebuild it's entrance and foreign quarter anyway.

I just don't see any way of them reintoducing it with a plausible explanation.

Tyrus Dracofire

thanks, Cusa.

dont know if it Oggok and Innothule were roughly in same region.

but seeing Grobb in Moors change everything i knew.

yeah, i agree about Feerott may have lost connection to Oggok.

maybe it could be very wet swampland and more tropical zone that we dont see yet.

seeing several undead rallosians in part of Feerott might give clues and think where the lost connection might be.

From what I remember, events that happened in everquest that were directly after pop, such as the legacy of ykesha, did happen in Everquest 2's timeline, it's just very quickly after that Everquest 2 differentiated (with the rallosian war, etc.).

I thought the "official" event that seperates the two timelines was when the Plane of Time was beaten... it was from PoP, but beaten after LoY was released, right?

Cusashorn

Correct. The PoT wasn't first beaten until July of 2003, LoY came out in February. The Gromzok Stone and the Troll lore surrounding Ykesha is canon to this game, but Morden Rasp and those wayfarers are not. Not to mention the fact that Guktan frogloks even exist is proof that it is.
